Because many of the people in my family are blind or visually impaired and they get on just fine with the sports they do. I also work with severely visually impaired people on a regular basis.

What makes you so sure that it does affect their sprinting ability?

Edit: this conversation is not liable to end with anybody changing their opinion, so this is my last post on the subject.

chalk it up to experience then and move on. little bumps, scrapes and scares are good for drivers now and gain – keeps them from getting complacent.

The world would be boring if we all agreed on everything and had the same abilities. That’s what makes the paralympics great.

    How do you know?

Surely if vision was irrelevant we’d already have seen blind or partially sighted athletes succeeding in able bodied copmetition?

The very fact that we haven’t suggests that it does make a significant difference.

How many people are visually impaired, how many of those are high level sprinters, how many high level sprinters of any functional ability go onto succeed in competition.

We havent had it, because statistics suggest that they wont get to that level with much frequency.

Wondered how long the trolling accusation would take to come along.

    No I am not trolling.

I have made my point very clear. Your opinion may differ as to whether their performance is fantastic or whatever.

Right – you may not like thi, but it’s what the highway code and whichever the relevant laws are say – a) you are not allowed to run people over, b) you need to make sure your observation is good enough to allow you to not run people over.

For what it’s worth – park in a quiet bit of the car park and go for a drive through space. Keeps the chances of muppetry happening down to the minimum.

Yes – that was very impressive.

Oh come on. Yes he’s quick, but he’s not effing quick, or fantastically quick, or anything else similar that you might care to use.

If he was any of those he would have been at the Olympics. Oscar Pistorius and his achievements will do a lot to raise the goals in paralympic sport, which can only ever be a good thing.

The relationship between impairment, function and disability is complex, There is no need to go overboard and say that someone is amazing when they have an impairment that doesnt affect their function in a particular activity – that is patronising and doesnt help anyone.

But that would put me in the B1 class or T11 race. Not the B3 or T13 that the Irish guy competes in.

My point is this: Sprinting is not an activity that needs much in the way of eyesight. It’s not a fantastic run when compared to people with “normal” eyesight. To say that it is a fantastic run is in my opinion patronising – is it simply a “oh look at that blind guy run, didnt he do well for a guy who cant see much”

He’s injured now though. I dunno, someone loans you “35million” “worth” of player and you break him in the first game. Hope you’re going to pay liverpool for a replacement… ;)

You lot are all soft in the head.

Running with 10% vision wont be any different from running with full vision. It’s not as if they’re looking where they’re placing their foot.

I am bemused by Liverpool’s fumblings. My present train of thought is that Bendon Rodgers is a yes man who says what people want to hear. He bangs on about introducing a passing game to Liverpool FC and how he has developed the young players that he’s given starts to in the last couple of games.

I’m sorry but Liverpool have always played passing football and infact their team from the 70s and 80s is up ther with the Brazil team of 1970, the current Barcelona team and Real Madrid of the 50s when it comes to the passing phylosophy. LIVERPOOL HAVE ALWAYS PLAYED PASSING FOOTBALL.

As for bringing in and developing youngsters – Benitez and Dalglish put all of that in place, and Liverpool have always brought young players through…..

I wish he would stop pretending that he’s some sort of footballing brain and just get on with it.

There is also the small matter of people praising the performance against man city. We beat man city 3-0 last year….

Boil up a sauce pan of water,
Crack an egg into the middle of it,
Fish out when it looks like it’s done.

Why the hell are the rest of you having such problems?

Given that most people do the red at GT they’ll never be anywhere near that part of the hillside. So even if there was a neon sign and 50 people with glad hands pointing the way traffic wouldnt increase on it by much.

I was doing the selkirk sportive one year. Riding towards eskdalemuir in absolutely grim weather, thought I was alone so I let out the biggest double barreled snot rocket ever seen on this planet. Turns out that there was a guy wheelsucking me. Serves him right I suppose.

Now I’m confused with the names now.

S&L goes from spooky wood to deliverance climb?
BT from Ewok to the bottom ponds taking a pretty much straight line?

Those ^ are not what I think they are, but what you lot have made it sound like.

Instead of saying that there’s no way I’d get permission to organise it, say why or say nothing.

The Selkirk Merida uses part of a long distance walking path, and you can call it whatever type of event you want to, but it’s definitely a race.
