Stand up very straight on something very flat.

No, I dont think it’s that one though – similar. The brakes not being on the same side of the bars on the bike suggests not – he’s missing an arm too.

I probably wouldnt care. I’d probably be asking my mate where he got his carbon prosthesis with the fox can on it made.

I wonder if NHS physios in England are worse than those in Scotland. Given that it only takes 3yrs to qualify in England, but 4 in Scotland.

Yip, we’ve had that. Not here though. Round here they are just about to go to prison and are selling off way more than pegs and dusters door to door. Biggest thing was some guy trying to flog a brand new kingsized matress door to door.

If they say that you’ve got a shoulder impingement ask them what kind it is. If that throws them be worried….

Right – just to make sure everyone is signing from the same hymn sheet. What is the system that we’re moving from and what are we moving to?

Who makes/made the decision whether someone is fit for work, and who will do it in the new system?

The problem is PEOPLE. If there is a system people will play it. Some rich people play the tax system, some poor people play the benefits system. Get rid of people and it’ll all be fine.

Riofer – I haven’t used one personally, but some close friends have one and it is an extremely well built bit of kit and does the job superbly well.

Anything else you want to tell me about physio?

Not all pain on the outside of the elbow is tennis elbow. Not all tennis elbow like pain is caused by an issue within the structures on the outside of the elbow.

To a trained physio – Hearing pops and feeling things giving way would pretty much rule out tennis elbow as a hypothesis. It would make them look at ruling out things like muscle and ligament tears.

Why on earth would you ice an injury for a few weeks and take anitinflammatories for the same length of time? That to me shows that you dont understand what you are using ice for.

If you want to know more have a read of http://eprints.ulster.ac.uk/17913/1/ACPSM_Physio_Book.pdf

VW caddy maxi life look usefully huge. We’ve got a zafira which is great for 2 kids, but no way you’d get 3 seats across the bench.

We must be doing something wrong then. Three kids seats fit in there with no problems at all.

To the OP – save your cash and get some smaller car seats or one of these:

Yes – instead of taking the left where it goes upto the rock steps go straight on to the fire road, turn left there, then continue up the hill past the entrance to the next section of rocky bits, past one of the DH trails, then there is a trail goes off on the right. It then crosses one of the DH trails then meets up with the xc route at the end of the straigh climb after the rocks finish.

Option two – go up to the first rock step and instead of taking the right corner go straight ahead and gain your height by following the path straight ahead for a hundred yards or so before following the path upto the right and joining the trail mentioned above.

Option three – ride up the push up track until you get to the path mentioned in the other two options. Or further up if you feel so inclined.

The minch moor climb makes for a belter of a descent at 3am on a monday morning in january when there is a full moon. Makes you realise just how long the climb is.

He means the quarry with the big bombhole like feature with a choice of two chutes after it, or one before it. There is a descent into that, albeit a short one.

The ONLY problem with NHS physio is the waiting list times. By the time you get to see them, your injury is chronic and therefore much more difficult to treat than if it was dealt with earlier.

Ramp tests are great for cardiac rehab.

Ton – does your local hospital/clinic/council gym not have cardiac rehab classes that might be able to put you on the right road with regarding testing?

I have had a few patients who have had a dislocated patella. The only thing that was universal was that they were petrified of it happening again. Go get some physio advice, perhaps a specific knee group exercise class if they have one, and get on with doing whatever it was you did before.

Once had a guy skipping on a wibble board by the end of his rehab.

First of all golfers elbow and tennis elbow are two different conditions. Secondly, they are overuse conditions and tend to come on gradually. Thirdly, you probably dont have tennis elbow. Usual PRICE treatment is probably the best thing for it at present. Fourthly – speak to Dave Macleod about your injury – he is the font of all knowledge when it comes to such things.

That’s a mistake a lot of people make. I’d chose the person who had the best reputation or training in whichever injury I had. Some physios are good at knees, some are good at shoulders, some are good at neither, but can get a stroke victim to walk again or clear some punters chest.

There is no such thing as a sports injury. There are however soft tissue injuries sutained whilst playing sport.

I’m of the opinion that the word “sport” in therapy is similar to the word “wedding” in photography – i.e. a license to charge more.

    I have a physio degree btw. :D

Edinburgh has hunners of shared paths. And apart from the odd extreme case in each of the cycling/ped camps they seem to work pretty well.

Glasgow also has a huge amount of shared paths and I’ve never had a single issue there.

Is the aggro above mostly just an English thing?

My middle child can only ride a fixie. On anything with a freewheel he ratchets the pedals. Haven’t caught him wearing his sisters jeans yet though.

If It was me, I’d still give it a go despite the wind. Plenty of shortcut options should the conditions get too bad.

What about if you come round a corner at warp speed and there is someone lying there with a serious spinal injury? Are you allowed to run into them because they shouldnt have been there? Muppet.

To say that something is not the best long term solution is pretty naive. For lots of people medication is the only effective long term solution.

There is always a cause for mental illness, it is not always an event in the person’s life or similar.

Counselling, talking therapies, CBT or whatever dont work for some people not matter how much effort thy put into it.

Sometimes there isnt a root cause to sort out, some of us are just dour, highly strung folk with all sorts of nonsense going on in our heads.

Medication works, although you might need to try a few before your get the right one.

Given the choice between taking medication forever or being ill I know which one I chose.

I can see Pistorius’s point, but think that he has to learn to play the game regardless of what the rules are. By that I mean if someone is using long blades and they are beating him – he needs to run faster.

One suggestion for negating that would be to add weights to the blades to make them weigh the equivalent of a similar length of lower leg.
