Fantastic effort that. Good to see a proper high quality record finally being set on the route.

Right – what “support” has anyone given the person doing the riding? If it’s merely being in a van somewhere in the highlands incase everything goes horribly wrong then it can be considered support in any meaningful sense. For many stretches of the WHW there is no road access and no mobile phone signal and the bits where there is both are so bloody easy to ride that nobody will ever have a problem on them.

If the guy in the van are preparing meals, fixing and swapping out bikes, towing the guy along – then it’s a supported ride. Anything else is just nonsense.

Did the stupid interpretation of unsupported come from across the pond per chance? If so that might explain the pure knuckleheadedness of it.

    Define “hard technically”.

I’m not to sure I’d be able to navigate the gap in that berm/wallride safely which Absalon is making look easy up there.

    They work like a dream.

i.e. anything you feel is a figment of your imagination and you’ll forget about it as soon as you wake up.

I hope he does it, because that route needs a proper high standard record set on it.

If it isn’t causing you any problems then I wouldn’t worry about it.

Your Scottish part of the route is horrendous. Look for something either more west or more east – perhaps follow Route 7?

What do you want it for and how much do you want?

CaptJohn – it’s waterproof and keeps its form better than usual zinc oxide and EAB types of strapping. It can provide support for upto 72 hours, unlike the usual useless after 20 minutes cheap stuff.

    I dont use it though.

I am fortunate enough to be friends with one of the worlds best climbers. He does routes that are amongst the most difficult in the world, if not the most difficult.

What he gets out of it is the feeling of control in achieving an ascent and all of the process that leads upto it. Other than that he is normal.

Imagine living a life where the only time you can feel like your living a life worth living is when you’re on the edge of death. That’s what that type of person has to deal with.

He’s got himself into the Guiness Book of World Records with that effort.

We had our kids in good and excellent nurseries at various times. The excellent nursery was indeed truly excellent. The good one was poor. Kids came home with the exact same illness which kicked in at the exact same time every week….

This stopped instantly on taking them out of there.

Part of this one is to write a research proposal, the best of which will be offered funded PhD places.

The report says that the fans were not responsible for the people getting killed inside the ground. It also says that the police opened the gate to the stand where folk were killed.

Yes there is an element of semantics to it, but if the gate hadn’t been opened by the police nobody inside the ground would have been killed.

People may have been injured outside the ground if the gate hadn’t been opened, but I doubt any would have been killed given the less confined nature of the space.

There had been near fatal crushes previously at that stadium in that stand.

There was probably no single error that lead to people being killed, more a chain of bad decisions.

CaptJon – in line with the dumbing down of all education – the lecturers now find the gaps in their literature and try and get us to fill them.

They are very good points that you raise and they are ones which I hope to find some sort of answer to.

Keep asking awkward questions. They can only help me think of things that I might not otherwise consider.

There’s also the success of rehab after TKR side of it to consider too.

Then there’s the depression leading to elevate reporting of pain, leading to earlier knee replacement, leading to more successful outcome due to getting the op before secondary maladaptations have occurred.

A million ways you could take it.

Crikey – the thing that physios struggle with is getting patients to engage in the treatment and do the exercises, turn up for appointments etc.

The answer will be along the lines of depressed folk with mild/moderate OA take the same amount of time to rehab as those without mental health problems but who have severe OA.

Well that couldnt really have gone any better. Got the topic I wanted and the supervisor I wanted.

Decided to go for a project that looks at the influence of depression on the rehabilitation of people with osteoarthritic knees.

You win. Realising that accidents mostly need two people to do something wrong makes sure you’ll look out for this kind of thing in future. Good lesson to learn. Good man for learning it – most wouldn’t take it on board.

In terms of pure sporting achievement I cant see past Wiggins. But in terms of personality and a story that plays with the emotions Andy Murray’s year wins.

It’s not a place where I’ll work. It’s my sister’s son that it happened to. She is weighing up whether or not to go for a formal complaint. She was prepared to let it drop until she got the probable bullshine excuse for doing it.

She happens to work in the hospital – handles the patient complaints process …

What speed where you going at?

I know that road very well, and it’s not all that wise to go hell for leather along it as deer have a nice wee tendency to jump onto the road without warning.

I’m guessing that you already know the rules regarding disqualification and retesting on newly qualified drivers.

Take it as a rap on the knuckles and learn that you need to improve your observation and decision making in the car.
