I’ve done the route on a 6″ travel bike (coiler), a 4″ travel bike (anthem) and a 100mm forked hardtail. Fastest bike round that route for me was the Coiler. More traction for me.

The reason I posted that comment is that lending a hand to someone who is skippering a yacht and being alright in charge of a 16ft canadian canoe loaded down with kit as you’re trying to cross a 3ft inland swell are totally different. Being alright with water in a yacht under someone elses command is not the same as being alright with water in a canoe under your command.

I was once spewing due to excess alcohol intake one saturday morning just as my mate came to pick me up to go ride the black at GT. Managed it fine, but started spewing again as soon as I got back home.

He will definitely defend it. Whether he’ll be successful in his attempt to retain it is another question altogether.

Lucky man. Doing more hillwalking would probably have a good effect on sorting your legs out. Or doing short runs up and round the hospital lochan might be an option.

Yes – your legs aren’t up to the task at this point in time.

I predict that this thread will bring up the following responses:

Go barefoot – that’s a daft idea as you’ll get loads of injuries before you see any potential gains,

Adopt a forefoot running style – that’s a daft idea as you’ll get loads of injuries before you see any potential gains.

My tip would be to look up eccentric exercises for the calve muscles or Alfredson protocol and do them religiously. Maybe even get yourself a good deep tissue massage to set you off on the right path before you do so. Then once all is fine in lower leg land build up your training distances slowly and on different surfaces.

One other potential problem you might have is the camber on the roads or pavements that you run on. Find somewhere flat to run – maybe the grass banking round a local running track.

    Edit: told you so.

    £5000 of soup, really

Snake oil soup with added holograms and essence of magnet. Folk are buying it like erm – hot soup cakes.

I have one and it’s the best thing since sliced bread. I too was a bit worried about spending £500 on one, but it’s paid for itself ten times over. Top quality bit of kit.

Not trying to pick holes in anything for any purpose. Just merely pointing out that if someone was trying to claim a record based on “total moving time” that it could be easily manipulated. But, if that’s the way the record was presented initially then fair enough – just seems a strange way to do it.

Hell using that method I reckon I’d be able to beat the new record WHW X2 set over the weekend. The total ride time including stops would probably be around the 5 years mark though.

Has he any thoughts on how much less time it would be possible for him to do it in given more favourable conditions?

I think of aggressive riding as doing things like instead of taking the wide entrance to berms, cutting in halfway and drifting into it. Stuff like that.

So is aggressive riding merely what I would call “riding like a fudd”?

    glupton1976
    Free Member

Yes …The time of 9h 51m was actual riding time not total time.

That’s a wee bit lame to use actual riding time instead of total time taken to complete a route.

Does the 28hrs 59mins ^ refer to actual riding time or total time?

Personally, I ride passive downhill and if anyone says otherwise, well maybe I’m wrong.

    Passive aggressive?

When I ride road aggressively, I’m riding fast and attacking the corners and the climbs rather than taking it easy
When I ride MTB aggressively I’m riding fast, with flow, pumping, manualling, generally being very active rather than just holding on/riding slowly

See – everyone I’ve ever ridden with just calls that “riding”.

Ragley supported riders Jason Miles and Dave Powell, of Team JMC-IT recently rode the Trans-Cambrian Way across mid-Wales in a record breaking 9 hrs 51 minutes – the previous record was 12 hrs 25 minutes, so they took over 2 and half hours off – good show!
