Have a weak shoulder after a couple of dislocations and numerous knocks. It has flared up again, presumably when I was cutting the lawn. Can now barely move arm, only comfortable position is elbow tightly tucked in to torso.
What can I do to ease my suffering?

I assume that you were given exercises after your first dislocation – might be an idea to do those. Here’s the problem – people do exercises when they are in pain – that’s a mugs game and doesn’t do any good. Do the exercises once you’re pain free and keep doing them – forever.

Physio claims its do do with bad posture

That’d (probably) be a postural impingement then. I’d be taking a wild stab in the dark that your pecs are pulling your shoulders forward and that’s making your issues worse. Strengthen your upper back and you’ll be grand – maybe.

They should only put the indicator on when they have a safe gap. Doing what they did in your scenario is dangerous.

Being a physio I have used many goniometers. Their accuracy inter-rater reliability is shite. Much better to eyeball a measurement. There is no way on this earth that they can accurately measure 40 degrees using a goniometer.

Seat height is determined several ways now and has developed over the years. Saddle fore/aft has a major effect on saddle height. New motion capture methods are very helpful for determining correct saddle height. The angle of the knees depends on methods applied. If you use center of the knee, it averages about 30 degrees, but if you are using the Lateral femoral condyle center using a goniometer from the Trocantor to Femoral Condyle to malleolus/lateral ankle bone for road fitting metrics, it’s best at around 38 to 40 degrees.

Interesting and complete and utter nonsense. Well perhaps nonsense isnt the correct word, piss poor practice might be better.

There are a few papers out there that show eyeballing a measurement is much more accurate than using a gonoimeter. (A goniometer being a protractor with arms.) How would you ensure accuracy when measuring the centre of the greater trochanter, femoral condyles and malleolus? That’s just pish. Pish with a 50% error rate.

Left handed. Hold jar with right – twist lid with left. Any of this jar twisting nonsense is just the act of a deviant.

If you were to be put in the same situation again how would you deal with it? If you would deal with it in the same way – get a car. If you would ride differently because you’ve learned something from this experience stay on the bike.

My opinion is this: every person driving a vehicle that is involved in a crash could have done something to avoid it. It sounds harsh, but then again death is pretty harsh.

In a word YES. Absolutely. To take an example that is not related to backs – the relationship between pain from arthritis in knees is almost completely unrelated to the severity of bony changes to the knee itself.

But if you look at anxiety levels and compare them to pain there is a very strong relationship.

So yes your anxiety is probably leading to more pain. However, your anxiety is probably leading to avoidance of certain activities, which is in turn making both your mental and physical states worsen.

My advice, bearing in mind that i’ve not examined you and have had a few pints is that you need to keep yourself moving and exercising. That will help both your mental and physical wellbeing.

There is nothing to stop you from becoming pain free, but you will need to work at it.

If you want any more specific advice my email is in my profile.

It’s not a flounce by the way. I’m not leaving. I’m just taking away the trolling opportunity from the nasty pieces of work who played their cards way to early. Amateurs.

I hope your not including me in that, I was attempting light hearted till the end

I was predicting 300+ posts, but the usual negative posters spoiled it.

I attempted to start a light hearted thread but the usual suspects decided to attempt to troll very early on. I decided that it wasn’t worth it.

Knee injuries are painful. You have a knee injury, it is painful. You may wish to take some medication of some sort, you may wish to ice it, compress it, elevate it or all of the above. If it’s still bothering you after doing all of that maybe think about going to your local minor injuries unit.

If you had done any major damage it would probably have swollen like a balloon pretty quickly and it also probably wouldnt hurt.

It’s in a different country thousands of miles away – that country spends billions of pounds every year on it’s military endeavours. They reckon they are the most powerful nation on earth. Frankly, I dont give a shit that they’ve had some floods.

I like trebuchets – but it’s irresponsible to own one in a built-up area.

Never truer word said, Hand guns and rifles however are not siege weapons.

I like nuclear weapons. But I dont think that they should ever be used unless for peaceful purposes.

Me and the missus were camped in a site near venice in 2002. When we were out on the piss a storm passed through which pretty much flattened the place and flooded it. There were thousands of trees down, caravans and buildings flattened. Just about the only thing left standing was our wee Mountain Hardwear John Muir tent. Not a single mark on the tent. As we were packing away a few days later I placed the rolled up flysheet on the roof of the car so that I could pick up the stuff sack to put it in. As I picked up the tent again, I managed to hank it on a bit of the roof gutter on the car and put a hole in it. Needless to say I was not best pleased.
