Very difficult to pick up a fatal or debilitating palm injury.

My gloves and mitts cover my ulnar, median and radial nerves and a fair few big blood vessels.

None of them are perfect. If I could get Shimano hoods with Campag mechanisms it’d be pretty close.

When do I decide to get an ambulance? If there is no way to evacuate the casualty safely with the equipment that I have at hand.

What gear do I carry? At work, that depends on what the governing body says I need to carry. For pleasure, normally some gauze, a dressing or two, and gaffa tape.

The British Assoc of Ski Patrollers Outdoor First Aid course is about the best I’ve done.

Moving, conscious and talking – i’d probably not have bothered calling an ambulance either.

I’ve had 3 adults, 3 kids and 4 bikes in one before. You’ll be grand.

None in my part of Edinburgh either. Or the estates either side.

My father inlaw fell off his bike and hit his head. He wasn’t wearing a helmet. He died.

As for the head being soft and whatever. Think of it like this – your skull is hard, anything that is injured likes to swell up or bleed. If your brain swells up or bleeds that swelling or blood has nowhere to go. This leads to a build up of pressure in your brain which kills damages your brain even further and often leads to death.

My commute or more accurately the school run used to involve me riding a Genesis Day One Cross SS, with a kid in a bike seat and two kids in the trailer. Used to get a lot of folk wheelsucking that one. They did not like it at all when they were dropped.

Hire through enterprise. Book smallest care they have – once you get there ask how much to upgrade to a bigger car. It has always been £5/day more to upgrade to a zafira.

    Yes – they’re excellent tyres.

You should expect to be berated for not being much of a rider if you keep getting pedal strikes.

Is it classed as a conviction or a traffic offence? If the former, I could see your point, if the latter – no chance.

Aye. You might also get run over, pushed back, spiked, spun, rolled or indeed a combo of all of then depending on what vehicle you collide with.

Can someone explain the 50mph one? Why is that not right?
(it’s late and I’m too hot so apologies if it is obvious)

Closing speed is 100mph, but you would still only be decelerating from 50mph.

Maybe if going a little bit slower, or perhaps staying inside the limit would work better, no?

I drive the same speed as the majority i.e. moderately over the limit on most roads most of the time although I will go very slow when there is clear danger or conditions are poor. I don’t think the course has changed anything re the way I drive – I don’t think there is a problem to fix.

Failing to spot a police car or camera would suggest that your observation skills need a bit of work.

Best comment was a young boy racer who when faced with road signs fessed up that he didn’t know any, he just learned the half dozen he’d been told would be on the test.

Smells like crap to me. Given that there is and has long been a computerised theory test.

This thread is a great illustration of what is wrong with drivers attitudes in the UK.

Speed IS a contributing factor to ALL crashes. If nobody is moving, nobody crashes. It’s that simple.

Aye – camp on the coast where it’s windy, or camp up the top of a mountain. Anywhere else and you’ll get munched.

Your signs and symptoms don’t sound like dehydration or lack of electrolytes. They sound more like overheating. If you are overheating it’s best to back it off a bit and cool down.

I use electrolyte drinks because they appear to help minimise cramp.

Some people of lesser morals would just complain that the parcel hadn’t arrived. A few of those and they’ll soon stop leaving them on the doorstep.

“legal trails” implies that there is such a thing as illegal trails. You’re not from round these parts are you? 😉

Here’s a tip for taking sickies – dont have loads of one day ailments, nobody who is sick enough to be off work recovers in 24hrs – get more adventurous and chuck in a few three and four day numbers. Google is a good source for the relevant info.

Find a way of working that doesn’t destroy your back. Be that taking regular breaks, swapping job tasks at regular intervals, or changing your workstation to something less damaging.

Speed wobble. if you’re sitting down when it happens stand up, if you’re standing, sit down. You may also find that pedalling down hill also prevents it.

I love riding in the rain. There’s nothing better than riding in that big fat heavy rain that you get now and again.

I’ll certainly enjoy myself – cheers.

I’m taking a good tent with me, know the country like the back of my hand and therefore the best wild camping spots. I also like swimming in rivers and lochs, so I’ll be clean enough as will my kit. I know where there are some really good mussel beds, I’m good at fishing…

    It’ll be an adventure.

    I normally run a 36 inch waist…

With a 36″ waist you should probably do a bit more running. 😉
