visodry amazon link doesn’t work – takes you to a generic amazon page.

reading a review on it from Bennetts they say it is incredibly fragile but does work amazingly well (https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/reviews/products/motorcycle-accessories/visio-dry-rain-repellent-review )

The  worst offenders are dog walkers and there dog mess bags ‘ I’ll pick it up on my wayback’ BS statement for leaving it whilst they go for a walk, to miraculously forgetting said bag of messed and it remaining hanging on the tree.

I will most certainly be out riding on Monday. I will undoubtedly give thought to the reason for why and reflect on that as my observance of the day and in respect to The Queen.

Make a long weekend of it – ride anyone of the South Wales trials centres or several in one day, then nip over and ride the Quantock Hills ride up and down every Combe would be an epic days riding. Then ride the Mendip Hills if you have some spare energy on the way home!

I have a Jazz – go for the vtec version if you can, as others have said loads of space. The plus is the seats fold flat into the boot space – so very handy large flat space all the way through, plus they seats have a very nifty seat pad that folds upwards feature so you can have the boot full, plus then fold up the seat section and have a ‘second boot space’ behind the front seats. A good wide boot, not that high off the ground, reasonable under floor wheel storage area too. cheap to run about in

Yes, but nowt to do with the anchor – thieves simply cut through he chains (and we are talking good quality kryptonite chains), but left the d locks – this is why I’ll never use chains thru an anchor ever again – well not unless its one of those Motorbike ones that’s costs an absolute fortune and weighs a ton! Dlocks and an anchor are the way to go – I installed the anchor vertically on the wall, then put d lock thru frame / anchor – super secure.

I have a Tado system, took my boiler servicing plumber about 30 minutes to wire in the new control panel to the boiler.then you have a new valve (ease to screw on) on every radiator. then every radiator is controllable – Take used to have a demo app you can get to see how the system works – I think its brilliant – as I work from home I can simply heat one room where I am working and change that temp as much as I desire. the app is very very comprehensive regarding times for radiators on off etc, totally customisable. I got all the parts I need from Amazon as hey were cheaper than from the manuf. web site. highly recommend the system.

I’d be really interested to hear of your impressions of the bike run slack and then with the angleset for comparison. I like you love a really slack head / steep seat tube (currently running 62/77).

It will be very interesting to see what the Country Land Owners Association – ‘CLA’have to say about this, and the guidance they issue accordingly.

For my sins I’m an architect, one piece of advice I give any potential client I go to see whether I am employed by them or not is do not pay anything upfront. sorry you probably don’t want to be told that.
There is no reason to do so – all contractors have trade accounts – these are paid for 30+ days down the line from order.

You did right by using a contract at least – never ever start a job without a contract, the other pice of advice any other competent professional would give.

Federation of master builders contract is okay, I use the JCT Homeowners Contract – plain English campaign endorsed and very simple to use & fill out. I use it for 90% of the domestic jobs I do.

Getting your deposit back, I think you’ll be lucky as the contract says 14 days and this has passed.

However, you should have been talked through the contract by the person proposing it (I do this to ensure all clients are aware of what they are signing upto – I am required to do this to avoid any misunderstanding by a client and would if it went to court explain why I choose that contract). You should have then had it explained to you why this contract was appropriate for the job concerned. If you didn’t a solicitor might be able to argue that you didn’t understand the conditions / weren’t made aware of them.

    hope this helps

Titus loco moto – had mine a couple of months – essentially a ti version of the Planet X hello Dave. its an amazing bike, I’ve ridden some silly steep dh stuff i’d never have attempted before, for 2K it really can’t be beaten on vfm – 150mm pikes and reverb dropper, gx throughout (cassette aside). Look past the geometry, yes its super slack, and steep, but this really comes into play when riding, I’ve done all day quantocks, mendips, FOD, Bristol trails rides, handles them all with aplomb.

@v7fmp – Friction Cycles in Bristol who have been brilliant, sadly the same can’t be said of Hotlines so far. I’ll update this once I have had some responses to questions I have asked as so far I only have half answers and want to get my facts straight.

A compilation of all these needs to be given to Charlie the bikemonger and a new sticker run needs to be done. there are some utter classics here that deserve a print re-run.

Get a full / enhanced structural report on it (possibly getting a trial pit dug to reveal the foundations so they can be commented on) – give the surveyor that does the job all the background history including the old Rightmove images. refer to the trees. ask about the subsidence effects /future effects post removal of tree. get the vendor to provide info on when the tree was removed.

Ask a boat load more questions – the vendor hasn’t exactly been overly forthcoming with info on the history from what I have briefly read.

put an offer in – if you still have doubts – use a as bargaining tool at a later date to reduce the price- I did exactly this when the extent of (concealed) damp in a house I was going to buy became evident – sale then fell through as we’d been very thorough in regards to the property history. vendor was underhand to stay the least.

also as devious as it sounds you could try the bargaining trick right before you are about to exchange contracts and try to knock them down, or really gamble and do it right before completion – the estate agent and solicitors won’t thank you for it – my colleague had exactly this and had to agree to a 5k price reduction or ‘we don’t move today’ was the purchasers lever.

everything about it is great apart from that top tube, if it were straight it wold look so so much better, prob cost less to manufacture to boot! really considered it but sadly aesthetics matter to me as much as the rest of it – it is ugly. bit of a bobfoc!

descent into smiths Combe is brilliant, rocky, then the stream crossing, then between the heather, then the horrific climb out! Descent into weacombe is grassy and fast wide ope at the top, then beautiful single track trail the way to the bottom.

its been a few years since I did either but these were ace and featured on most of my rides when I rode there regularly.

    1) you need building regulations – when you come to sell you’ll be asked for proof you have it. This needs to be done / checked off as you do the works – not after they are finished.
    2) definitely use an approved inspector NOT the local council – as comment above they are far easier to deal with, and much much quicker
    3) you should be able to convert the garage under your permitted development rights (PDR) BUT you should apply to your local council for a ‘certificate of lawfullness’ essentially this is a letter saying yes you can do these works under your PDR – if you don’t when you come to sell you’l be asked for this by your solicitor and you’ll then be into a min. 2 month delay to get this approved.
if you are in a conservation area, or the original planning permission removed your PDR, has other conditions related to alterations you’ll need to submit a householder planning application – min. 8 weeks with the council – and requires a full set of drawings, and other information
    4) the planning portal is a very useful source of knowledge
    5) if you need a lintel for the works you’ll need to prove via a structural engineer that its appropriate in order to get building regulations approval – a simple calculation like this will be several hundred pounds
    6) if your near bristol DM ma and I can advise further – I am for my sins an architect

sorry can’t, but can highly recommend spending your tv budget on bike parts (therefore justifying a set of reserve carbon wheels) and ride your bike even more – you’l benefit more from this than sat on your arse in front of the telly! just a thought…

be very careful how high you build it, in regards to planning rules –
    basic rules
1 – no higher than 2.5m tall if within 2m of boundary
2 – more than 2m from boundary eaves max height 2.5m, ridge 4m (dual pitch)

see this for more simple guidance –

your not going to beat rose or canyon for value for money to certain extent. having said that I recently bought a cube (simply because I couldn’t get the bike I wantd from rose or canyon in the timescales I had), its light and better spec for what I bought – bought thru evans after trying for size. ribble are expensive and heavy for what you get (actually look and what spec you get it will be very very markedly different from the images you are shown), Planet X will always beat Ribble on vfm.
