I live in Chichester and ride local and further afield, there are regular wed eve rides at whiteways and sdw with geared bikes in chi, I normally go to north downs or stamner at weekends as well as whiteways, email in profile if you want to hook up, also member of south downs velo in Chichester which is a road club but also does mtb.
GlennGFree MemberI work in hedge end (live in Chichester) and would be up for an evening ride down that way if there are anymore planned?
GlennGFree MemberBeen out with switch-backs in bubion 7 times and twice to their dh place in Malaga, back out again in nov, trails especially around bubion are superb and mike is a great host, couple of good bars and restaurants around bubion , would recommend giving them a go, prefer sierra Nevada area to alps.
GlennGFree Memberpretty much seem to go at whatever speed they like where I live, one rule for some and another for the boys in blue.
‘speak to the duty inspector’ would be a complete waste of time as nothing will get done (from experience)
GlennGFree MemberDevinci Dixon, frameset with RP23 and custom build, 145mm travel, 67deg head angle, not sure on bb height. Could be built up around 27lb, recon this is going to be my next bike next months.
GlennGFree MemberSS and 1×9 round Q’s a few weeks back, bit of a slog but a good workout, spin out a little on the descents though on SS. Good fun on 1×9 though.
GlennGFree Member+1 on Fiat Multipla (if you dont mind the bland looks), mate has one and its very reliable, plus can take 3 bods in the front and six bikes (wheels off) in the back with back seats down, or 3 bikes with wheels still on. Considering one myself.
GlennGFree MemberAh yes Mr Dallagio, bumped into him in Ax Les Thermes in the Pyrenees a few years ago, me and mates sitting outside bar covered in trail sh1te after riding down from the mountains and he walked in with a couple of other rugby players, saw him the next morning riding out of Ax up the Col de Choula (?), he’s friggin huge, felt sorry for his poor bike.
GlennGFree MemberLouis Theroux (?) outside shop in Peaslake on north downs a few years ago, he was biking with two mates. Also nearly knocked over ‘tinker’ from lovejoy whilst riding through Brighton as he stepped out in front of me going down west street.
GlennGFree MemberNot many reviews around at moment, one on mtbr and one on bikeradar, had a quick spin on one a few weeks ago and its very nice, looking at custom option myself, hoping to take out the demo bike at freeborn for a proper go before placing an order. Had a few Devinci’s before so know they are good solid bikes with good warranty backup from Freeborn.
GlennGFree MemberRide quite a lot (commute 36 miles a day 3 days a week on SS road bike) also night ride once a week with a off road ride or 50 mile club ride thown in at the weekend, also run 5 miles twice a week so a fair bit of exersize, I also teach kickboxing & karate twice a week and an hour of kickboxing is far more exhausting than any of the rides/runs put together, (but a very good way of increasing your stamina and base fitness). 3 x 2min rounds of sparring sounds reasonably easy but I am hanging after a couple of those.
GlennGFree MemberNot a hotel but can really recommend the Glasfryn B&B 01267202306 in Brechfa, good accom, food and a bar and not far from the trails.
GlennGFree MemberUrchinboy the switch-backs video in Malaga is superb (but then I am a bit biased ), especially like the crashing section, (you must have hours of crashing footage available ),thought the music went really well with the action.
Also really like that Helens Tower trail/video, looks so good.

Devinci Johnstone (still got)
Bianchi Infanito (still got)
Spesh Langster (still got)Seems like a huge amount of bikes but I do ride a lot and dont really spend my money on much else.
GlennGFree MemberIts not too bad, reasonable amount to do in and around Chichester, south downs, nice beaches, lived here now for 6 years after living in brighton for 10 years, do miss brighton sometimes
GlennGFree MemberHad 3 bikes painted by Argos in 2 pack and all paint jobs have been very durable (all dh bikes), also had two other bikes painted in standard paint at Argos and although finish is superb the paint is a bit fragile. Worth paying the extra £10 for 2 pack if you want black/white/orange/green?
GlennGFree MemberRun my i950 remote cable along the tube of my Meta 5 (via a zip tie at each end of top tube) then use a smaller zip tie to tie the remote cable onto top tube zip tie but leave it loose enough for the cable to slide through when you compress the post, works a treat.
GlennGFree MemberHaighd2, Dango and Ewan couldnt agree more with you. As one of the two builders of the ‘T’ series, XP, the ‘original’ BKB line and numerous other trails in the area, its depressing seeing the trails in such a poor state. We would regularly go up and spend many hours fixing trails, removing deliberate trail debris, re-routing straight lined corners! prior to going out for a ride only to go back during the week and to fix it all again. Why some riders want to straight line through twisty singletrack is beyond me.
All the trails we have built in the past have been pure singletrack with very few obstacles and once the trail was finished we would quite often let other riders know where they were for ALL to enjoy. Although we were the builders of many of the ‘cheeky’ trails, looking at the current situation up at Holmbury/Pitch I am against any new trails being built and time should be spent maintaining what already there.
Dandylineandmurdoch, I realy feel for you, it must of been so upsetting not getting a response to your cheery ‘hello’ you realy do sound like a pompus nob.
GlennGFree MemberGot the 26″ version on my SS and two mates have the 29″ version, very good quality.
GlennGFree Member5’11” and ride a medium 2010 Soul, got it set up with a F120 and its the perfect singletrack/all dayer, have in the past owned the following hardtails 2x Dekerf Team SL’s, Cove Hummer, Curtis FR and On One Inbred and out of the lot the Soul is the nicest to ride (if the Dekerf geometry was a bit more up to date there would be no contest).
Would only get rid of it for a Soda.GlennGFree MemberI thought so after reading that you rode a Mondraker, nice orange kit by the way (still got mine somewhere along with an orange pertex jacket – the black one with all the little oranges on it, retro!)
Hopefully see you Sunday 😀
GlennGFree MemberGoing out to Switch-backs Dh for a week or riding this Sat am, cant wait 😀
GlennGFree MemberI will be the one at the back falling off lots on Michael’s old Rocky Mountain Switch, will be nice to ride dry dusty trails in the sun? (its chucking it down out here again at the moment), do you guide for SB’s in Malaga or ride with them?
GlennGFree MemberNice, I presume thats around the Malaga area? the trails look awesome. Out with Switch-backs this saturday for a week of DH trails with a couple of mates, we have not been there before but have been out to Bubion 6 times with Mike now, I am a little aprehensive about some of the drops I have seen on the videos but the trails do look good.
GlennGFree MemberAx-les-thermes is superb for biking (road & mtb) as well as walking and there is some very good climbing a few miles down the valley. The town is really nice with some very good places for food as well as an outdoor thermal bath which is ideal for soothing sore feet after a long walk/bike, + a very dodgy nite club/casino.
Been there 4 times now and love the place, if your looking for a possible guide or accomodation I have a friend who has lived over there for 10+ years who does some very good guiding and has a 5 bedroom guest house in Ax.
GlennGFree MemberGot a 18" Curtis FR for sale if your interested, had it built a few years ago around the geometry/sizing of my Hummer.
Also got one of the new Souls, to be honest I love the Soul over the Curtis although the Curtis can take a bit more abuse (head angle with a set of Pikes with sag is about 69.5deg.) If I was going for a new Curtis (they are very nice, rare-ish and well put together) I would defo get the head angle slackened off a bit but its good for tight twisty singletrack with the 71deg head angle but can suffer a bit when the going gets a bit technical/rocky, The Soul is just 'perfect' but common as muck.
£780 v's £470 hmmmm.GlennGFree MemberNot walked in on but was driving back from a surf trip in devon when an Audi in front was swerving across two lanes repeatedly, this carried on for about 5 mins, was about to flash the guy and give him some abuse when a head popped up from his lap, his girlfriend/wife had obviously been giving him a noshing whilst he was driving, we ended up overtaking him and all four of us in the car were cheering and waving to them as we passed them, they were both a little red faced.
GlennGFree MemberReal Cycles are a pleasure to deal with, Steve is a very helpfull bloke, cant recommend them enough.
GlennGFree MemberRun Nuke Proof risers cut down to 740mm on my Meta, handling is great and with 10mm chopped off each end I dont clip as many trees, seems to give more control over my old EA70's.
GlennGFree MemberGot them on my 2010 Meta 5 and compared to my other bikes with SLX, Avid 5, Hope M4 & Saint brakes they are spot on, easily as good as the others with good power and modulation. Was a bit dubious about Formula brakes as didnt know much about them but very impressed so far.
GlennGFree MemberBrought the 2010 Team version last week and chuffed to bits with it, rides very nice, only downside is its a little on the porky side.
GlennGFree MemberMRP X.1
none
very little
piece of p1ssAll on a new Soul with an SLX mech, set up was simple but had to do a couple of adjustments after first ride, there is a very small amount of rubbing in top gear and its suprisingly silent, lot of money for a small bit of white plastic and an alu bracket, works well though.
GlennGFree Memberlooking directly out of my office window I can see the south downs way and Chanctonbury Hill about two miles away, weather is stunning with very little cloud at the moment.
GlennGFree MemberDidnt ride sat but had a blinder of a ride on sunday, rode all the local cheeky singletrack (brighton) for a good four hours, just looping bits of trail together, dry and dusty, lots of predictable slides, trying to keep up with faster mates and succeeding, the best days riding this year, was about the 10th ride on my new Soul and prior to sunday was feeling a little disappointed with it, but sunday it all just came together and the bike rocked, still got a massive big cheesy grin on my face.
GlennGFree MemberHi, I live in Chichester, theres some good riding in Houghton Forest about 3 miles north east of Fontwell and about 2 miles north of Arundel. There also trails from Fontwell to the main forest with some nice flowy single track, its well worth exploring the area as there are some nice hiden bits of single track. Not a huge amount of riding around the Chichester area (bit up above goodwood). Could show you a few trails if your interested, either evenings or weekend?
GlennGFree MemberBeen 6 times and going again this year, love Bubion, Mike, Isobele, Robin, Lucky, etc are great guides/hosts. The trails are so good.
Wouldnt call the accom basic though, as for food one of the brit locals knocks up a very good curry (order from Isobele) which is delivered to your door if the restaurants are closed, the food in some of the places in Bubion is a bit gash but the Belgian restaurant is superb as is the pizza place in Cappileria.
GlennGFree MemberIf its a 9mm front DT jobbie I got one recently at UK Bike Store, they have got them in stock but they are £45!
