You can try and fight your way, but unless you feel singled out for some particular reason (a boss with a grudge, discrimination of some kind), or get messed around with redundancy payments or something like that then you will just get burned.

Anyone buying things online expecting next day delivery has the wool over their eyes, or perhaps hasn’t opened their curtain or been outdoors for a few days.

Granted, they should be on the ball and remove this option from their site, but be realistic. I know it’s a consumer-driven world these days where we want everything right away, to pay bottom dollar and still receive flawless service.

Would it potentially be better using an ethernet cable rather than wireless adaptor?

I’m sure it’s 8 that I pay for. May look at cable then. So frustrating not being able to use iplayer and other channel’s versions.

**Edit, just did a search on cable.co.uk, not in my area I can’t! damn…

Thanks for the info, I’ll look into it. I’m about 2 miles from the exchange, which hasn’t been upgraded from 8mp.

Have you tried plugging the router into the test socket, inside the master linebox? Should rule out internal wiring issues.

I don’t even know what that means sorry!

Leave him alone to be a man. Stop trying to turn him into a metrosexual softie, what’s wrong with a man’s man who behaves like a man?

I have given up on wearing gloves for work as they leave me with fairy soft skin which cuts and rips easily in my normal duties, so I don’t use them any more and get far less angst from sores.

Cauze I iz a man, innit?

I can echo the words about SWB transits. I use one for work and it's been great so far. 02 plate bought this year for £2k. It's only a 75hp model but still pulls a 2-tonne trailer. Mine is fitted with shelving etc but without it there would be room for a fold-out bed and a bike or two.

Consider if you want a bulkhead or not… possibly not if it's for sleeping in.

I coat a boneless shoulder joint with a mix of herbs spices and olive oil, seal it and roast for 20 min on 250 and 3 hr on 150. Gives a wonderful soft meat. I just had this tonight with asparagus, gravy and rosemary roasties.

The process of excavating 150mm into the ground may disrupt the roots of the trees. If you post a general photo of the trees and a close-up of the leaves I can id them for you. The only problem would occur if they are fast growing and large whereby the roots would crack the founations.

A meeting isn't going to work, obviously.

Maybe reply to him and state that you'll expect the cheque within 5 days and that will be the end of the matter.

Scumbag was sitting on the cash hoping you would just go away, what an ass. Poo on his doorstep.

I agree 100% with Alwyn, Nissan Almera. Bigger in capacity than the cars mentioned but you'll not regret it and it should be among the cheaper to insure. It's a supremely reliable machine, nippy and capable, plus engines are less stressed on the motorways than ka-sized cars.

Lazgoat there's a big polytunnel on the allotment and I have grand plans! Been very lucky actually, got it through landshare and the owner is happy to pay for the new polythene for the tunnel. Small greenhouse on the site too, be good to fill it up with seedlings come May.

Windowledge space runs short very quickly when doing early sowings doesn't it?

I am all action stations this year. Moved into my house last May and was far too busy with everything to plant much, but I got 4 beds dug approx 18x4ft, a greenhouse put in and cleared away all the hedging and shrubs from both gardens to maximise space. 2 months ago I also secured a plot about 5 miles away on some private land with a large polytunnel and have spent some time digging beds. Planted 300 onions sets last weekend and a hundred or so potatoes. Going up today to plant more tatties.

In the greenhouse I have some herbs growing (chives going strong about 4 inches high, french tarragon from last year sprouting new shoots a couple of inches high, mint/oregano in pots coming through), also doing some onions from seed as an experiment. I have a 50% germination rate with those. 3 gutters of peas, some pots with coriander and parsely, a planter tub with garlic now 12" high and waiting for a summer harvest and a few other bits and bobs.

Indoors I have a dozen tomatoes of various types (including a wonderful santini mini plum I got from M&S lasy year) and a dozen marigolds to accompany them (beautiful little seedlings so they are!). These plants are 6 inches high and have good leaf growth so far. Also I have just sowed courgettes, sprouts, cabbage, purple brocolli, sweet peas and globe artichokes.

The plan is to set up a large crop of tomatoes and aubergines at the allotment, then chilli plants/grapevines/cucumber under cover at home (one greenhouse and a mini greenhouse). I have a permanent bed big enough for 30-50 asparagus plants. I haven't bought crowns yet but aim to do this in the next couple of months when I see a good offer.

I have also been doing a spot of random flower/bulb planting in the front garden along with some fruit canes and a family apple tree and a viccy plum tree. The daffies have been up since the end of Jan and I just planted a dose of wild garlic and bluebells I acquired from a garden I work in.

The cut back honeysuckle has nice fresh red buds all over it. I'm so excited about everything! Will try get some pics and get them up.

I live in Torrance, a village to the North of Glasgow between Kirkintilloch and Milngavie.

    I LOVE IT!

It gives me absolutely everything I want from life, and I rarely if ever have to sit in traffic. I have easy access to the north via Kilsyth, south via Bearsden or Springburn. The village is quiet, secure, and not simply a commuter town. It has a real community, local people working locally, neighbours looking out for each other. I also have the space and facilities to run my business, trade suppliers to hand and customers with enough cash to pay for services.

1 hour to Perth, 40 minutes to Greenock or Stirling, 55 mins to Edinburgh.

I highly recommend East Dunbartonshire. 11/10!

They will be fine. I like to prune my clients' trees at least up to 6ft high as it makes things much more practical.

Don't cut into the base of the branch (ie the slight swelling right at the tree trunk). Cut just before this. If the branch is heavy make a cut from underneath first, halfway into the branch. Then make a cut on top, 1 inch further out from the trunk. The branch will snap off without the bark ripping away (which would encourage idsease). Then trim off the stump to the collar as mentioned above.

Any cuts you make will heal if left alone, you don't need to put anything on the open cuts.

    Yawn.

Thanks to the couple of relevant replies. The others, why bother? Why post with intent of digressing instead of giving a down to earth response? Typical STW mindset, innit?

This is a forum so bashing out thoughts in a random and slightly incorrect way is acceptable. If I was emailing a client, though, I'd make sure it was 100%. This lack of attention to detail may affect his planning.

I am a tradesman too and scrutinise any correspondence before sending it out. It's my company image that's at stake after all, which in turn affects my livelihood.

So when you say you 'found a position', you mean you have applied for a vacancy, rather than been granted the job?

Don't worry yet; If they pick you out of the 477 other applicants you can then worry about it!

The planning system isn't there to keep grass green. It's there to ensure a lot more, as I'm sure the STW village idiots know, although knowing this doesn't assist them when creating their short snappy moments of unbacked wisdom.

A damn waste of a good home though. Rip it down just because they can.

stop people trying to cheat the system to destroy our beautiful land for selfish gain.

Where do you live? Wasn't that once beautiful land?

Where I live still is beautiful land! A long-established village with VERY little building going on. Houses only come for sale when a granny pops it!

This was on a tv programme recently. Same guy raced quad and trail bikes around the countryside and had a right bit of traveller blood about him! All on what appeared to be greenbelt land.

Scum, rip it down and stop people trying to cheat the system to destroy our beautiful land for selfish gain.

The average radio 1 listener does spend a lot of time on those sites, it's probably all they know.

Does the BBC say "I recommend twitter, much better than facebook"? It's not advertising, it's just talking about something they do in life. It's mad when people think the mere mention of a product equals advertising.

Having just been given a hire car estate for a few days I can confidentally tell you that the biggest problem you'll have is parking up in ASDA. It's a like a freaking BUS!

So you're one of those people that park across two spaces because you think your estate car is a bus, and refuse to drive through gaps that A BUS COULD GET THROUGH while on the road?

Shame on you, get a tape out and measure your car, it ain't that big!

I did a human biology degree, spent 3 years doing jobs I didn't want to do, then went and did an MSc (with funding) in Wastes Management. Halfway through the MSc I started applying for jobs like crazy and got a job in Wastes Consultancy lined up for the MSc finishing.

I didn't enjoy it. Spent 3 years there, worked up to £26k with immediate potential to go up a couple of thou but then redundancies hit.

I decided it was time for a change and set up a gardening and grounds maintenance business for myself. I now have contracts worth more than what I was paid before and still 2 days per week free (in addition to weekends) to make more from ad hoc and new domestic jobs. I have no boss, no targets to meet other than whatever I feel I want to do, no bad feeling when I wake up in the morning and I am a completely new man.

That is my experience, everyone is different.

I agree with others here, seriously look at MSc courses and choose carefully. They are very practical courses, much more applicable to the working world than BSc etc. Do a part time job in the summer related to the discipline as this will be viewed favourably by potential employers.

The other option worth looking at is an MBA. Your knowledge in the environmental sector, combined with business skills, could see you earning massively more than a consultant ever will. Go to any trade shows, conferences, presentations that you can and meet people. It takes a long time to build up a network but it's worth it and if an environmental business knows your name when they have a job opportunity there's a better chance they'll give you a call before advertising.

Stick at it, don't give up, and best of luck.

Most people in my trade seem to berate vivaros, they much prefer transits for their reliability.

I have just bought an '02 transit swb with 96k for £1900, ply lined and in good condition. Exciting stuff! Got a decent insurance quote of £250 for it too which I'm pleased with.

It's good, but not BBC-friendly though, too morbid for that.

Saw his early clips on Youtube, he's obviously a smart guy with too much time on his hands!
