I think if she, and other athletes, spend their efforts and time on training rather than touring/modelling/filming they might be a whole lot better!

I bet if you rode two identical bikes, one with each, you’d never know the difference, so either.neither!

Anthem is an efficient and low/zero-bob design that pedals superbly. You’ll love it.

Just wait for the replies giving it “but the cyclist shouldn’t be there” or “if it’s a footpath, obey the rules, follow the guidelines for living”…

Love the BBQ shot, amazing. I would love to have a week there, but mates aren’t into biking sadly. I must try and convert them.

I don’t think we as humans should work such long hours. It is detrimental to family life and mental wellbeing. I run my own business in a physical role and generally work 0730-1700 plus 2 hours admin a day, but the ideal would be 8-3 plus 1 hour, which I am aiming for next year (call it streamlining if you like). I don’t consider an office vs physical job a class issue. I know I may be considered middle working class if income alone is the basis of deciding such factors, but it’s not. It comes down to your choices in life, the way you spend, think and carry yourself.

I have had enough of the earning phase and want to relax into the ‘enjoy life’ phase, because I can, and because I want to. I’d like to see unpaid office overtime become a thing of the past and thus improve the health and happiness of the working population.

A fast hybrid like the Marin fairfax (it’s based on road geommetry with a few comforts added)

Zip ties are made for brakes, don’t faff with cables drilling holes or worrying otherwise about them, they are there to be zipped onto the frame and ignored.

And a worn chain means the cassette needs replaced as well, but no mention of chainrings :(

We know this programme is gubbins though so maybe we should stop moaning about it.

Watching today’s champs on catchup and I’m sure one of the riders just completed a run with a 29er rear wheel and 26er front… can’t see the sense in that though? Anyone comment?

No big issue as only a dimwit would ride outside their stopping zone

I guess everyone here who rides well-known trails fast must be idiots then, as when you come round a corner and there is an obstacle that should not be there you would rarely have time to stop if you’re anything of a decent/quick rider! This forum is full of moronic replies!

My wife and I each put 700 into a joint account which covers mortgage, bills, food and a night or two out a month. Anything I have left in my account at the end of each month is my disposable income and I tend to save it/put toward mortgage overpayments.

I am coming back into biking with the frame of mind of ‘ride, don’t buy’. I reckon the whole thing will be much more enjoyable if I can get out loads and hone my skills to perfection, regardless of what I’m riding.

Rodriguez and Contador are still full of riding’ Froome looks like he has already ridden the 3 weeks. I expect Froome to finish high but not in the top 3.

I have switched off Froome and am now looking at the strong men, currently supporting Contador!

Ok, so a scally riding around in London, somewhere, though you don’t know where or who he was. Let me know if your bike was stolen so I can tell you I saw a bike ridden by someone somewhere just for your own peace of mind?

Think about it – you happily use the chain as it is on the granny and middle rings at present, so simply ignoring the outer ring is all you’re doing with a bash.

    The Scandal is stiff.

I have had 2 Kinesis Maxlight frames and loved them, very compliant, comfy, fast and light. Also cheap. That’s what I would suggest.

You don’t need to shorten the chain, just do it for the sake of completion if you feel like it but you won’t even notice.

CFH you need to watch more athletics! :) It’s a better sport than biking anyway…

I used to compete but nowadays the body says NO!

It’s nothing to do with the wet, they do it anyway as so much momentum has been gained going forwards they need to haul the anchors hard to stay behind the line.

Pretty sad story – how do you think the teenage driver felt afterwards? Being misguided and stupid doesn’t make such a tragedy any better.

Don’t forget spend a few seconds unseating the bead right the way around the rim once the first lever goes in… I’ve not needed to use more than 1 lever or put it under much pressure for a long time!

53mph years ago on my Dawes Galaxy down a hill by the windfarms at the back of Ardrossan, aged about 16. I’d never go that fast now, the thought of coming off doesn’t bear thinking about.

Dave – your website URL is spelled wrongly in your profile here.

PS Do you do work for engineering firms on developments? Could be worth approaching them if looking for more work.

£100 on a bread-maker – never buy bread again and always have fresh healthy stuff in the kitchen.

£150 on a day out with the bird/boyfriend, evening at the ballet (again, bird or boyfriend) and a decent meal :)

I imagine she won’t be doing anything serious offroad, so a hybrid should be fine, but she could get a rigid MTB (I suggest rigid because they are less stealable and a lot lighter/simpler/faster for commuting plus she can still get offroad. A hybrid with 35c semi slick tyres and disc brakes would be my suggestion, make sure she can put proper full mudguards on it.

It’s a pain in the ar5e. I came back into biking recently after 3 years away working and too busy to notice and I see 15mm qr, 11 speed, tapered headsets… just give it a REST!

No sea fishing as it wasn’t a fishing holiday as such. I wouldn’t expect too much from the shores other than flatties and seatrout (depending on time of year, September can be good), but I may be wrong. Yes the wild brownie was a real surprise and tasted amazing. I didn’t exactly get it all approved with the gamey though so keep a low profile unless you arrange things formally :)

I had a great stay in South Uist. Take a wee spinning rod and catch some fresh trout and salmon for the open fire. I had a wild brownie of 4lbs and a tired salmon at 8lbs on a £10.99 rod I found in a barn. The rod snapped and the reel handle twisted off while playing the salmon but it was already spent by that point!

I am keen to hear what the Hei Hei is like for climbing. I have had an anthem way back a few years ago and it felt as if the back end locked up while climbing; it really was something great, but if the hei hei does that as well I would sway towards it as it’s a nicer looking bike and a bit less common!
