I never shy away from doing a deal with a buyer away from ebay. I don’t feel very charitable toward ebay at any time of day! So, if I am selling something I want to clear £100 for, it’d need an ebay price of at least £120. If someone offers £100 to end auction early I’ll just reply with my phone number, and withdraw the auction once it’s paid for.

So my advice is don’t ignore offers… what matters isn’t that you get ebay their commission, but that you sell your item to someone.

Good stuff. Now for the most important thing; a picture of your lawn with fresh stripes! I love a stripey lawn.

15.3%, taking it to over 3k. This, while I sit and watch my council waste untold amounts of money on STUPID town improvement schemes that have made things worse for EVERYONE and received nothing but constant criticism from start to finish, yet they;ve stubbornly continued without changing their plans.

East Dunbartonshite Council, nobody, honestly, NO residents want your shared space in Kirkintilloch, or your utterly ridiculous Lenzie improvement schemes. Stop wasting this extra money you’re so glad to be receiving.

:) Yes I’m really keen to have a double swing frame, and just wondering if a long 100mm spar will be strong enough. I guess if I do the crossed posts with the spar resting across them and 100mm isn’t enough I can easily unbolt it and bolt on a bigger one after tracking one down.

The other thing, that I suppose the corner brackets you’ve used sort of address (but not completely) is side-side movement. Without burying the posts in the ground I can’t see how any structure is sturdy enough without some cross bracing (which would get in the way of the chains if the frame isn’t wide enough). The corner brackets will kind of stop that side-side but it must still rock that way when the kids start to experiment with trying to make the thing fall down.

Couldn’t be bothered with my old mower any more so I bought a new one :)

Quite looking forward to it actually. New one is £600 instead of previous £1300 and before that £1800. So I only want it to last a year. New one is 35kg instead of 70kg. The only thing is it doesn’t have a BBC but I’ll get by with that.

:) Handy few features such as a fuel cap with a clutch so you can’t overtighten it, and a nice firm deck height adjust with only 5 positions.

We bought our house on a small town main rd, 30mph, and a good front garden between us and the pavement. The driveway is big with plenty room to drive in, turn and drive out again, and I’m growing a good big mixed hedge after cutting down a 20ft conifer monstrosity.

Quite happy with it and not concerned about any noise as it’s not much at all. It’s the compromise we made to live 2 minutes walk from one of Scotland’s best public schools!

I hate the thought of being distant from people, growing older it’ll be good to have neighbours, but I would dearly love to have a semi countryside home with a view into fields/sea.

I bought a used echo brush cutter (srm4000u) 7 years ago for £120. I’m still using it every day and it’s had NO repairs in that time!

PS I am selling this but suspect it’s slightly on the big side for you!

I’d look for a second hand Stihl hs81r or a Kawasaki/echo/Tanaka hedge trimmer, 30″ blade. Say £150. At 2m high you’ll be fine with just a hop-up platform at £20 or so.

A used Honda Izy at £250 should last years for mowing. A straight shaft loop handle strimmer at £100, same brands as above. And then a blower if you can afford one as they properly clear stone chip areas and under hedges etc.

Some people obviously missed reading the “money is tight” bit.

And many two stroke engines are fine for regular long duration use without risk of circulation problems. It’s the cheap plastic rubbish that’ll turn your capillaries to stone.

It’s mild. Some folk I know have been doing a 4 weekly cut all winter. I’ve been holding off but customers demand and I’m full steam next week.

The second will be hard for the first while. You get even less sleep than when you just had the one. Be prepared. The second you think you’ve finished up the chores and sit down one of them starts crying or demanding attention.

I’ve found our second really hard for the first 6 weeks, but she’s mellowing out now at 8 weeks old (just slept from 9-6, for example).

Melts my heart seeing our nearly 3 year old pat the baby’s head and cuddle her to comfort her when she’s crying. He’d ran into her room a couple of days ago while she was screaming and when I got in there 3 minutes later his head was resting on her tummy and he had his hand around her foot. She’d stopped crying. Almost draws a tear actually!

Plus, financially, a second kid is a very wise decision… You’re more likely to have someone willing to do a bit of looking after YOU when you’re old and decrepit.

All-inclusive, you will both be pushed farther into the stress/emotional turmoil zone for a while. This may feel like a disaster in the midst of it all, but as soon as things start to ease slightly you’ll be aware of the weight lifting.

Hey don’t apologise… You’re not obliged to go out and get pics for some forum random!

I’m getting a better image of what I think will work anyway. Found a supplier who can do long posts and a 6×3″ spar. Just trying to figure out how it’s all going to bolt together.

REM were a huge chunk of the soundtrack to my defining years as a student and as such means a while lot to me. Hearing them switches buttons much like the effect described by mintimperial above. Just dreamy wistful tear-jerking uplifting stuff.

    I wish I was 19 again. I truly do.

I’d be happier if 100mm posts suffice as they’re much cheaper and easier to get. I can’t help thinking a 10ft wide span at the top would bend/wobble if it’s only 100mm though? That’s my thinking behind a piece of rafter at 150×50 or so.

Agree with above. Get the carb off and take it into the kitchen, some isoproyl alcohol and clean it right up. Check the gaskets are ok. Clean the fuel/replace the fuel lines, tip out the fuel tank and clean it, fuel filters (mesh cap on the end of the fuel line inside the tank), pop a new plug on, replace the engine oil.

If it still acts up after this, just get it into a local machine shop and ask them to specifically sort that issue out. It’ll be worth it I’m sure.

Have you got any photos? What thickness posts did you use? I guess a 10ft post would be fine if you’re using ground anchors, 12ft if burying the posts. I’d rather not spend £50 on ground anchors, £70 on brackets etc though.

    infidel – Member
I have. I used square posts and premade angles like these – This

10 foot posts. Spirafix ground anchors to hold the thing to the ground: This

I used marine grade a2 and a4 stainless coach bolts for the fittings.

Swing is still going strong 4 years down the line. It’s coped with drunk adults on it too!!

Induction hobs are great for stir frying on, and I wouldn’t go back to archaic inefficient slow gas again.

Or maybe I just have imaginary stir fries?

We had a roofer remove ours and put up a new OSB/felt roof with 3 sides full lead flashing for £1500 all in. Couldn’t diy as the boiler and lots of electrics are in there and I couldn’t leave the garage uncovered for days.

The 3 year old I love spending time with even though he’s a grumpy git that loves saying “stay home” rather than go biking… It’s this damn 6 week old that’s driving me insane. She just won’t relax and sleep and grunts and panic breathes non stop for hours at times which is very annoying and stressful!

Can’t wait for the day me and the older one can just up and off in the van on a friday afternoon for a few days!

I’m surprised business owners seem not to even think where their marketing photos come from! And showing off photos of someone else’s work, so their clients will obviously be under the assumption it is theirs!

I’m going to watermark all of my photos and replace them on my site.

We’re lucky in our area that a 4 bed terrace with a garden can be had for £110k so with a wage of nearly £2k a month it’s affordable

Surely then a 1 bed flat can be had for £40-50k? So once he can save £6k, maybe 6 months saving, he could afford to BUY, let alone rent?

I absolutely agree with what you’re charging, and the whole concept of getting him out of the house.

It’s one of those things that he’ll thank his mum for in future.

I may fit a thin door frame then, 90×18 mdf and hang a lighter door, cheers.

The gaps are going to be filled with easifill to stop any edges cracking and just left undecorated.
