A very good friend of mine has used them twice in different houses, and he strongly recommends them. I am speaking to them at the moment. Impressed so far, but not signed the contract yet.

VW Up! here. Standard engine not blue motion. Average around 54mg which is more than twice as much as my Audi Quattro so I am pretty pleased with it. I think it is a fantastic little car with good room in the back. Looking forward to the GT version with a bit more power. Group 2, £20 a year VED

I did the same thing last night and bid on a Rega Plannar 3 without an arm! Put my bid in about 60 seconds before the end pretty sure I wouldn’t win, just dicking about really, and I did.

Just WTF am I going to do now with a posse of 2 Rega 3’s and a Thorens TD 150 MK2 and only one working phono stage. Thankfully mine was a lot cheaper 😆

A second hand rega planner 3 is always going to be a good buy. Look for a good one and you will not lose much if you decide to move it on. I have one of the older ones with the r200 arm and it is very good.

An alternative would be a Thorens TD 150 MKII, harder to find a good example, and you may or may not like its styling.

Personally I would avoid project TT but for no other reason than Rega’s are easier to move on.

From the other side of the fence it pisses me right off.

    1. Some people think because they work compressed hours they can count their lunch hour as a work hour
    2. They think nothing if a late afternoon meeting runs on to past 6-30, or that 15 mins at 5-45pm is ok to find you are still there at 6-45pm
    3. The I must speak to you today because I am not in until Tues, well tough my diary is up to date
    4. Off loading work on a Thursday because they are not in until Monday, manage your own priorities
    5. Getting pissed off because they are then not allowed to take flex, or we will not allow them to changes their days to suit there domestic life that week

I am sure not everyone who works compressed hours think/behave like this but my experiences have been tarnished by one or two individuals

    Rant over

I love my VW High Up! (75 bhp), took a few weeks to get used to, but now 6 months on and I am still loving it. For most of my driving a super-mini is perfectly adequate (just don’t brake sharply at 85 mph).

Not sure I would go for the cabrio version if and when it is launched.

My Audi Quattro (200bhp) sits in the garage all week and all but scares the shit out of me now when I drive it. Plus the suspension now seems super firm. I do favour its brakes mind 😆

ti-pin-man – thanks yes I know the one H&L Motors. The VW garage suggested them and they are VAG approved so I will definitely take a look at them.

My current quote is well over 3 times that I was expecting 😥

Just looking at my own dentists website and that sounds very expensive if we are talking 1 crown 1 bridge unit and whitening. I would have been expecting £2 – £2.5k tops?

OP – hope you don’t mind me piggybacking on your thread. If so just let me know and I will start a new one.

but ebygomm – no I am just talking of an integrated single oven NO hob. It looks like a minefield. My current oven is rated at 2.5KW some single ovens are below and above 3KW. Not sure if mine is hardwired or just with a 13amp plug.

    Thanks all

    Sorry for the slight hijack.

But if I am planning to replace my current electric oven with a new one, will I need to have the CU upgraded to the current standard regulations.

The cooker in question is about 14 years old so I would be certain my CU does not meet current regs. Or will it be OK to just fit a new oven. I am not planning on doing any of the work myself 😀

Although the far reaching consequences of the DJs could not be foreseen (assuming the events are related), they must have been aware of the potential for serious consequences for those who were taken in by the prank, whether that be an informal or written warning, disciplinary or possible dismissal.

Thus irrespective of any “cause and effect” argument their actions were malicious and they should be held accountable for those actions as should their superiors who presumably had editorial authority over any such “prank”.

Even before this tragic incident I found the DJ’s actions wholly deplorable and in poor taste. I have no time whatsoever for the Royal Family and the World’s apparent fanatical interest when a member of the Royal Family so much as farts, but I do sincerely wish they we can just let them live their personal lives in privacy.

So this puts me firmly in the “hang them out to dry camp”. Any experts on the extradition treaty between UK and Australia?

S/H Rega to match the CD player. Last generation Brio if you can live without a remote. There is supposed to be great synergy between Rega components (but then again they all say that).

A s/h Arcam 7 or 8 would be a good amp but may be too warm sounding especially with B&W speakers. These go for peanuts – look out for a well cared for one (e.g, a buyer who has the original box would be a good sign)

But there is loads of choice in the s/h market for between £100-200.

I may be drink 2-3 times a year and probably no more than 1 or 2 bottles of beer or a glass or two of wine. I was a big drinker in the past – gave up about 10 years ago. Age caught up with me, but I can’t say that I miss it.

I use Fired Earth 😳 But seriously I have always found it provides a good finish and lasts. Everything else seems like a bit of a lottery and I don’t relish the opportunity to prepare it all again to try another brand of paint to save a few quid

My next door neighbour is struggling with our chairman to sell his flat as the new prospective owners want to have a dog. I doubt he will win as he will need the explicit support from the board.

I believe our lease has a clause stating management company (shared freehold) has final say, which in our case would inevitably mean no.

Before doing anything check the contract you signed. The dealer’s T&Cs are probably on the back of the sales notice or some other documentation they provided to you when you paid your deposit. My VW dealer had 60 days post estimated delivery date to supply the car. After that I had 14 days to give notice in writing that I wished to cancel with no penalty.

Thankfully, my VW Up! turned up only a week late and I was only quoted 8 weeks in the first place, but I ordered back in March, by the time I collected mine, the dealer said there was now a 6 month waiting list.

If it is a standard spec and sought after then the dealer may not be too bothered and allow you to break your contract without penalty, but my main dealer’s T&Cs seemed very onerous, almost read like they didn’t even need to supply me with the car I ordered.

It is a fantastic car BTW well worth the wait

I bought a Trek madone 3.1. The cheapest of their carbon range, not that light, but with upgraded wheels and finishing kit it is does feel better but by far from the lightest of bikes I have had. I only bought it because I liked the colour, but carbon bikes have moved on over my 2006 model. I love it, it feels so planted, given I needed a new road bike like a whole in the head, I am so glad I bought one.

My dealer was quite upfront with me an told me not to bother getting mine fixed as they would just do the work at trade cost. On another car with much more damage the dealer did not even blink. Both cars where one owner 5-6 years old when I was p/x them.

The price you agree to pay for a car with a dealer needs to be independent of the means of financing the car or at least that is the law.

Dealer finance at 0% or their own interest rates on a new car are generally competitive. In my most recent experience I was shocked at just how uncompetitive dealer finance was on a s/h car. On a small polo it would have cost me an extra £1000 over 3 years.

I would always take independent finance as that means you can do pretty much whatever you want to do with the car as the finance is not tied to the car, but there are benefits in HP if you have more than I believe 50% equity in the vehicle.

So long as the interest it not too high then I am the sort of person who takes the loan, accepts that is the cost of owning the car, and keep my savings in the bank. Not sure I would be sufficiently disciplined to save the money religiously after blowing it on a new motor.

But each to their own …

It wouldn’t get past me Julian too much BS for me.

If people make substantial claims in their personnel profile then I would be looking for hard evidence to substantiate it in the remainder of their resume. I am with Junkyard on this one short and factual and no overtly subjective statements.

PhDs are qualification in perseverence and dedication with a sprinkling of deep thought.

    Fully agree.

I never got a great deal of satisfaction doing mine, it was just a long grind. But all that said I do not recall working super long hours and I am glad I did one.

I treated mine pretty much as a 9-5 job, which in itself was a bit of a culture shock from being a lazy but bright undergraduate

Twice a year. Generally one in the winter and one in the summer. I have in the past had a couple of years back to back with no illnesses but that is a few years ago now.

I have suffered similar symptoms recently whist suffering from a moderate case of tendonitis. I put it down to my body compensating for me not pushing as hard with my right leg, and I strongly suspect that my core strength is not good. Symptoms have eased now the tendonitis is sorting itself out.
