I am in agreement with £1k brigade. Aim a little higher but if he clears a grand he has done well. Neither groupset or wheels are a real puller

Jeez there are a lot of names.

Thinking some Cat Power and the Cowboys Junkies will be my next purchases, although I bit more Joss may be on the cards to.

    Thanks

I was on a short course of 40mg for 5 days a couple of weeks ago for my Asthma. I exercised whilst taking them (OK I probably shouldn't given it was for Asthma) but I am still here.

Steroids really f**ked up my mood though and I was pretty agitated and wound up whilst on them … even more so after hard exercise.

I was about to switch it off but then Tamsin walked in so I persevered and before I knew it the hour was up .

IIRC FSA gossamer is a complete misnomer – they really are not very light – ultegra SL perhaps 100g lighter.

SL cranks look great when new but scuff easily (I have read).

Used to be the case you could pick up s/h new/unused FSA gossamer cranks really cheap I assume either because they were sold pretty much everywhere online at big discounts or people took them off stock bikes asap.

Good luck. I see my shrink just before Xmas and hopefully he will consider letting me come off mine which I have been on since Easter and as a result I am now very fat and ride up hill even slower than before.

I have been through this before a couple of years ago. Then, I didn't then have any problems with bad withdrawal effects but like you did it nice and slowly over about 6 weeks.

I think you should find yourself a new mate. Would you really want to work alongside someone with so little integrity. He sounds like a complete ****.

MrGreedy makes a fair point – make sure your answers are focused and brief. I wasn't trying to suggest you should wax lyrical – but be prepared for the interviewer to come back with some interesting angles.

Most interviews these days are behavioural or competency based.

Interviewers ask questions to elicit how candidates have demonstrated particular skills in their current and recent roles rather than focusing on specific knowledge or expertise (within reason).

First I would list all the current skills or capabilities that are required of your current role and do the same for the new role. If you have one look at the job descriptions or the internal advertisements.

Then, think of 2 to 3 recent examples of where you needed to demonstrate that capability. Think of the situation, what did you do and why, what were the challenges, how did you overcome them, what was the result, in hindsight would you have done something differently and why, what did you learn.

Where there are skills in the new role that are not in the existing role – then you will need to get creative with interpreting your achievements – but I am of the view that if you are missing a particular skill then be honest it can be learnt in the right environment.

IMO the term project management is pretty vague.

Thanks for all the suggestions – plenty for me to research. Just been down to my local HMV for a look around – not the widest selection but couldn't wait until the middle of the week if I were to order on-line.

    Came back with

    Duffy
    Mazzy Star
Some early PJ Harvey (only £3)
Er and somehow a James Morrison album slipped into the mix.

Will try some find some Gillian Welsh, Cowboy Junkies and that Cash Cow or whoever she is at the start of the thread. Nothing going cheap in HMV though today.

Don't recall Kate Bush appearing the lists – not that I was ever a huge fan. Don't think anyone has mentioned Tracey Thorn either – is she still going?

I bought one in the spring. I toyed with the Olympus ones but was in the end put off by the combination of their viewfinder layout and availability of 3rd party lenses. They felt very nice in the hand and had a good finish.

So it came down to either a Canon or a Nikon who together seem to have the market pretty much sewn up. I opted for the Nikon D60 based on no better reasons than a) it generally had a better quality feel to it (Canons felt very "plasticy" at the lower price end) and b) it seemed to fit/feel better in my hands

I was amazed at just how good my pictures were without even trying with a DLSR!

Mr Woppit – I joined that NAIM forum a couple of days ago (shame).

It seems fairly active – but makes us STWers look like the most normally balanced group of people ever to have walked on our good planet earth. Bike obsessiveness is nothing compared with those Hi-Fi chaps

Does this count? Sadly, no longer mine although I now have a 2008 red one.

Definitely black only on this one – but I reckon you could get away with silver on an all orange one?

    A. B and C. Sold me beloved 2007 Kona Kula, when I bought my Whyte 19 Carbon, as money was a bit tight, only to buy another 2008 Kula frame a few months later to start a winter build!

Not noisy to the best of my knowledge – but with the chain off – the cranks are not spinning nice and freely as I would expect. Doesn't seem too bad with the chain on when in a stand turning the cranks etc

Can't say I detected any lateral play? – but didn't really look for it.

I should have added that I have just ordered a new NAIM power amp and pre to follow so looking for stuff that will stretch it.
Hooray, cheers fella What did you get? Also, have you ever done a factory tour? Very interesting, in my obviously biased opinion. At the moment, you might get a chance to listen to some unreleased stuff as well.

I have most likely settled on a 202/155XS combination. I listened to the NAIT XS, 152/155, 202/200 and 202/155 all in conjunction with a CD5 XS. I dared not listen to a CDX2 or whatever it is.

I couldn't really stretch to the 202/200 knowing that I will need to replace my CD player soon to really get the most out of it. IMO the 202 is a really big step up from the 152, the 200 vs the 155 less so but if I had the money I would have bought the 200 without a moments thought. But no new bikey bits for 2010.

Quite a few names I recognize so far – many I now remember I have in my collection but finding them will prove more difficult. Bjork, Portishead, Garbage. Florence etc

Its been a long time since I saw the name Juliana Hatfield – is she similar to PJH? And, whatever happened to Natalie Merchant? I have been promising myself some Mazzy Star/ Hope Sandel for a long time

I should have added that I have just ordered a new NAIM power amp and pre to follow so looking for stuff that will stretch it.

As for Lady Gaga, I remember seeing her perform on the TV probably from Glastonbury earlier this year – can't really remember the music but I do remember those come to bed thighs.

Hope 2 on the bars – Joystick on the lid. Although I would prefer a bit more Umph.. tbh. I often realise I am benefiting from my mate's more powerful lights and then he leaves me standing on some downhill stretch and I it all looks dark again which makes me ride even slower 🙁

I am not sure that people really think that adding an iPod is an upgrade per se – but it does allow you to exploit a new technology in a manner different from its primary purpose and provide the user with the 'convenience factor'.

OP asked two questions not just one?

    GJP

Arcam have just introduced a new version of their iPod dock for £150 with a remote. Or you could splash out £390 for a Wadia 170i dock. I believe the Wadia is the only one that can output a digital signal from an iPod for use with a separate DAC if you have an extra few hundred to a few thousand to spend!

My local hi-fi shop says the Arcam is a match for the Wadia if you are only interested in an analogue out. Whether either is significantly better than the standard apple dock that I am still using from my 2g classic is another question.

Or you could buy my aging Naim system from me – I feel like an upgrade. 😆

Get to the Doc for FFS. Ask for a morning appointment and fast from the night before so they can give a better assessment of you blood sugars first thing in the morning when I assume they should be at their lowest?

I had similar symptoms along time ago and also thought it may be diabetes. In the end mine turned out to be an under-active thyroid which I suspect is no great deal once they get the medication sorted out.

Domestic crisis – somewhere deep in my employment regs there is a provision for two days leave for handling domestic crises. Not sure if it gets abused or not. I have only called on it once in 16 years – for legit reasons.

I would say their HTs come up at the smaller end.

I am 5'8 but with shortish legs (30in) and have just finished building my second Kona Kula 17in – why I ever sold the first I will never know. For me the 17in is toward the limit for me in terms of TT length and need to use a layback post if using riser bars. Lots of standover height.

I think they are fabulous frames. Hope my second gives me as much pleasure as the first.

Thanks guys – normally my Asthma is not a problem. I use a steroid inhaler in the morning but bar that I am symptom free for years on end – never even flares up with colds and chest infections etc.

However, this has been a bad year and I have lost perhaps 5 months riding as a result. Although perhaps more of this has been down to Depression than Asthma.

The odd thing is that it real terms my Asthma is not really that bad . My GP says I am fortunate in that I am sensitive to small changes in my peak flow so can feel these that others would not.

Only a couple more days on the Steroids so hopefully I can retain the last remnants of my sanity until then.

    You're liver is diseased-you're dying…

Nah, your metabolism of beer can change.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but is it not your liver that is responsible for metabolizing alcohol and removing any toxins from the blood stream.

    GJP

I would go with Warton's answer in so much as the liver gets less efficient as we age but I am no medical expert.

The patient advice leaflet that comes with prescription drugs often suggest that older people (or the elderly) should be given lower doses and there are always warnings for people with impaired liver or kidney function.

How about dividing each number in the list by the number in the "box". These will either be less than 1 or greater than one. Then the one you want will be the minimum of the set of those with a ratio > 1.

Thus should be possible with if(), min() and lookup type functions. Will also work even if the list is in a random order rather than ranked.

    Edit.

Actually this only needs min and lookup functions and no nasty nested ifs which are a PITA.

I would say that Ian Munro has given the most sensible and intuitive answer so far. Any one who can multiple a number by 2 and get the correct result will see the recurring pattern that he is referring to within 30 seconds. Or at least this is true for positive values of x.

    GJP
    Free Member

Could you not trying fitting the regression line to the differences between the two data sets (difference in the the y values) assuming the x values correspond? If this line has a Beta value that is statistically different from ZERO then the two lines were different – if not then the lines are parallel and the slope is the same?

    Intuitively makes sense?

I have just taken a look at CanadianAffairs website and I would never have bought a ticket from them but I guess they offered a good price compared with the flag carriers etc

Their instant purchase tickets allow no changes or cancellations after time or booking and payment which is the same. Whilst their standard fare tickets (available for what looks like an extra £10 each way) do not offer a great deal more flexibility. Within 10 weeks of departure the penalty is 80% of the fare paid.

T&Cs seem fairly clear although whether they are re-iterated at the payment page I didn't check that far.

Travel insurance will only pay out under certain conditions – medical etc. Although I guess you could sort of deliberately miss your flight but be seen to have made every effort to get to the airport on time – car/rail problems etc
