My recommendation is listen to the music with your feet.

If your feet aren’t tapping involuntarily when listening to music played on an all NAIM system (or all NAIM bar the standard recommended sets of speakers that go well with NAIM), then there is something wrong IMO.

Seriously, I am half serious. NAIM should have your feet tapping and wanting to get up to dance, with a caveat regarding Bach etc, then it may be more of an emotional flow.

I haven’t got one so can’t comment, but generally from what I have read they are well regarded.

The only thing I would say is the standard finish is “sand blasted” rather than brushed so they have that dark dull grey Ti finish – which you may or may not love/like. Just something to bear in mind if you are also looking at others like Enigma (which are brushed), Van Nicholas etc

That said aren’t the standard Lynskey frames also blasted rather than brushed.

I can’t remember the reasons but Seven would never sand blast Ti … probably just marketing spin.

IMO your bike has some nice touches and looks very nice almost unused, but the upgrades you have made (perhaps bar the tyres) are all cosmetic – may have saved a couple of hundred grams in weight, but overall the weight will be compromised by the forks and wheels.

My guess would be £300, which I expect is less than you thought. Personally I would aim quite a bit higher. Remember you only need one serious buyer, not half a dozen wanting to bite you arm off.

Size may also be a factor, what is it a 17.5in, if so that probably goes in your favour.

Edit. Have to admit, I didn’t realise they were now £950 new. So £300 does seem very low and you should be able to do a lot better than that.

I guess the most obvious one for me is that I wish I wasn’t bi-polar. As my psych once described it “you spend 70% of your life being suicidal and remaining 30% being homicidal” 😆

Here is another 2006 Omega Alchemy, barely ridden as I much prefer carbon frames. Frame may be for sale in a short while.

    For those that are a
bit bi, I nearly always ride off road Saturday either in Woburn or Ashridge. And Sunday is road day.
Always happy to have riders tag along with me either day.
My mountainbiking is xc and road is well road.

Grimy – are you taking Singulair regularly each day or just to prevent Exercise Induced Asthma? If the later how long before starting exercise do you take it. I thought it needed to be a couple of hours? I assume you are also taking inhaled steroids?

The reason I ask is my GP suggested I try it last winter after a few back to back Asthma episodes. His view is for about a 1/3 of people it works wonders and for others it does nothing and for a tiny few can make things are awful lot worse. I was reluctant at the time but thinking now that I ought to give it a go this winter.

I am also in the CountZero camp but it is only in the last 12 months or so that I have got back into music. Listen to my iPod on Tuesdays commuting as it is my no parking day at work. Other than that it is full albums at nights and at weekends.

About 40 CDs on the window sill next to the hi-fi at the moment, perhaps 3/4 of them bought in the last month – mainly s/h off the bay for a couple of quid.

If you lived with the music that Kate Walsh has covered on Peppermint Radio then just buy it – you will not be disapointed.

If the geometry suits and your mate can live with the short head tubes (at least they are 10mm longer than the old style 2010 models) then take a look at the 2011 Felt F5 for £1700 – only 105 mind. Felt make some fantastic frames.

You can’t go wrong with OS Maps 145 146 these cover the North Downs and Surrey Hills, and then for further afield 133 and 134 to take you into West Sussex for longer rides.

Hills to include on your rides are:

Ranmore Common – probably 3 or 4 ways of tackling this one
Box hill – up the ZigZag
Leith Hill – you can tackle this probably from about 6 different points north to south, south to north etc.
Winterfold – generally I think most people do it North to South (can also go up east and west side) – one route South to North is probably the toughest in the Surrey hills
Coombe bottom – classic climb is South to North but you can include it both way in a ride
Whitedown – classic route is South to North (I refer to this as B*****D hill)
Chapel Lane between Boxhill stn and Great Bookham south to north very steep but not very long

Beyond the Surrey Hills, Sussex is mainly flat IIRC only hill I remember is Blackdown near Haslemere.

Sadly a couple of years since i have been out on my road bikes.

My mail is in my profile if you want to email me and I could give you some pointers.

Isn’t the 320 a 2.2 6 cylinder engine compared with the 318 2.0 4 pot? The 2.0 4 cylinder BMWs are way underpowered. 2.2 6 flat six all the way IMO.

I can’t say I am too keen on the words “…. surrounded by projects ….”, but a nice view in that first picture.

I used to take the LIRR out from Penn St to Long Island for some road rides, but found it took the whole day up so didn’t do it that often.

Well there you go … I had to look up Highbridge Park, lived there for 3 years and never even knew it existed let alone ever been there. Can’t say I ventured north past 86th street too often and 168th street are you kidding …. 😆

I lived and worked in NYC (as in Manhattan) for 3 years prior to Sept 11. It was a wonderful experience and I have very fond memories of my time living there.

If you like City life then there is nowhere better than the Big Apple.

I wasn’t such a keen biker at the time, so no hardship in that respect. But, if you are planning on living in Manhattan or any of the 5 Boroughs (although there is only three that would be contenders Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan), then I would say you may find you are limited to laps of Central Park on a road bike.

Others may know where there is decent riding an hour or two from the City

Thanks guys, to be honest I think I’ll stick them all on Music Magpie. If I get enough to buy a pair of new wheels for my singlespeed, I’m happy. All the music is now on my ipod and backed up on a portable hard drive. Might even buy another hard drive as a second backup.

You do realize that what you are doing is illegal don’t you. Ripping the CDs and then selling them on, even giving them away. 😆

Also put together a good advert with a few decent pics. Detail the full specification by each component, age and condition etc.

Learn how to post pics on here it is simple when you know how.

I am amazed by the number of people on here to try and sell something for several hundred or even over a grand with nothing but a two line advert.

And please don’t forget to include the frame size.

I have been suffering since Xmas Eve and I am just starting to feel a little better today.

So that’s about 5 days just laid out on the sofa after spending 10-12 hours in bed. Still tired/weak and being an asthmatic my lungs are now shot to sh!t for another few weeks.

Worse Xmas break ever for me 😡

Some very interesting pics there FoxyRider. Looking at the websites the geometries also match for a M/52-54.

Their claimed frame weights do differ substantially with Ribble claiming their frame is 200g lighter than Wilier.

Wilier have de-specced their Izoard for 2011, now the Izoard XP so save cost, using lower grade carbon and undoubtedly add weight.

What is true to say not all carbon bikes ride the same and even a fat useless rider myself can tell the difference.

In terms of carbon framesets I have owned a Time VX, a Felt F1SL and a cheaper Omega Matrix (the latter being a Universal “Mould”)

The TIME as one would expect was a beautiful example of bike craftsmanship and i loved it until I rode the Matrix and Felt. Both made the Time feel wooden and both tracked the road much more precisely than the TIME.

I sold the TIME and have since sold the Felt F1 but that’s another tale.

Panasonic do some nice ones for less than £200 including CD and DAB.

They are not in the B&W class perhaps, but neither are they £3-400. I got the top of the range one as it had bluetooth. Shop around as I expect pricing a falling as they have been around a while.

Since posting I have picked up a couple of Gillian Welch albums from ebay. Loving Time the Revelator. Would have bought more country stuff, but got a bit side tracked by Sarah McLauchlan, so been collecting her full works for the last week or two. Keep them coming. Thanks Gary

I think the key decision is whether you want a 3G one or not. 3G means you can use it outside of your home on the move and not be dependent on a local wireless network for internet access.

As far as I can tell, if you go 3G then the choice of supplier seems less important. There are no tie in contracts.

O2 is supposedly easier to get up and running (no credit checks Apple tell me) and you can renew daily or weekly without calling them up all done from the iPAD. Vodaphone probably gives better value if you want to pay £15 each month for 3G, if you go for a daily usage/weekly then you need to call them each time you wish to initiate it.

Also one gives you a full 24 hours 3G (i think it is O2) whereas Vodaphone runs midnight to midnight.

All in all this would tend to point me to O2 but am I sure others will have a different view.

In this regard I have nothing but praise for my current GP. I think in 10 years then i can only recall on one occasion where I have had a long wait, most of the time no more than 5 mins beyond the alloted appointment time.

Whether times have changed or there are good and bad GPs. At another surgery I often had to wait for up to an hour. I was once told at 4-45pm the GP had not yet shown for his afternoon surgery starting at 4pm as he was still on the Golf course.

I think it depends on what you are doing with it. If you are just listening to your iPod or plugging it in to some hi-fi or iPod docking station using the iPods own 10p DAC then I am not sure I would bother, although no harm in experimenting, perhaps others feel differently

If you are using an external DAC and streaming from ITunes/iPod to the DAC then the sound quality is much better – not CD quality in a direct A-B comparison but very listenable to rather than just for background music.

I use Apple lossless streaming wirelessly to a Musical Fidelity DAC with an Apple Airport Express. It is simple relatively cheap works well (only the occasional drop out)

Apple tell me there is a way of ripping lossless but when syncing to the iPod doing the compression to AAC . I haven’t worked out how to do this, and obviously the sync time would be longer (but presumably not a real issue for small incremental updates).

This would seem to provide the best of both worlds – high quality files on the PC that can be streamed to a hi-fi or some other device, controlled perhaps using the Apple Remote App) and low quality but lots of compressed files on the iPOD.

If anyone knows how to do this compression at Sync time can the please let me know

I reckon my car costs me about £5000 per annum (£3k in depreciation, £1200 in fuel, and about £800 for insurance, tax and servicing – the £800 is no doubt an underestimate, as is the fuel)

I do about 7500 miles per annum so that works out about 67 pence per mile.

Mine is an Audi A3 2.0T FSI Quattro. So the figures should be similar to julians. They seem comparable given he does a a few more miles than me.
