Two team members have recently approached my manager (or in truth my manager’s manager) with the same predicament. They went about in different ways, the first one tactfully explaining what was missing for them in their current role, the second one just more of a rant.

The outcome was pretty much the same, both got their wishes and were allowed to move on without any apparent prejudice. Although without doubt the first won the professional respect stakes.

But, all in all I think it depends very much in the organisational culture and your direct management team. As a manager i would be more helpful to the individual who appears calm and has carefully thought through what is missing and what they are looking far in their next move.

Are you even sure he’d like a watch? I haven’t worn one in over a decade and I’m 52

Until about 3 months ago I had been the same. Not even really sure what triggered me to buy one, but they are bloody addictive little things once you start 😆

I bought myself this at the weekend. In real life it is a stunner and my third seiko watch purchase in as many months. All in all seiko make some very nice and affordable, in relative terms, watches

I now use senditnow.com (ie. parcelforce) and have never had any problems.

I wouldn’t use Parcel2go again, albeit I have used them several times without any problems, but the last time they damaged a frame in transit they didn’t want to know even though it was fully insured.

When I spoke to the FELT representatives last autumn (Nov) at the opening of the new SigmaSport shop in Kingston they said they would not be bringing the EDICT frames into the UK for 2011.

I vote with Gordy and Mudshark. The Agency introduced you to the Company and in all probability they were due a fee/commission on placement either at the outset or post your probationary period.

The agencies beef should be with the company and not you. In your original post you did not contact the company the company contacted you.

Seiko do some very nice kinetic watches for just over £200. I bought one for my dad the Christmas before last, he is 87 and no doubt like all elderly parents very difficult to buy presents for. It must be the only thing in nigh on 20 years I have bought for him that he actually uses. It is really nice to see when I go and visit to see him wearing it.

I was pleased to hear that Ford have pulled their advertising today. Let’s hope that many other companies follow suit. It may not have any material difference to the paper but it clearly makes the point that their behaviour is morally unacceptable even to big businesses. Let’s hope a few Banks follow Ford, oh the irony.

I have had nothing but impeccable service from my Audi dealer, but then again I am not a tight git and bought a new one 😆

But seriously, you bought a 6 year old car, you may have got lucky you may not have, but parts fail.

IMO £420 does not seem that excessive

Publish a couple of papers in leading Journals (or in reality have them accepted for publication) before your submission. IME this pretty much guarantees a successful outcome at viva time.

Ultegra 6700 is/was a huge improvement over the 6600. Crisper than crisp gear changes and the 6600 was about as good as it gets IMO. Brakes also seem a lot more powerful. Both my set-ups were done by a top LBS so no monkey wrenching from me involved.

If it were me I would stretch to the 5700 looks much cleaner – but its your money 😆

£1300 per month but about £250 is service charges on the flat and £50 on a cleaner every fortnight so about a grand, so say £250 per week. Very little opportunity to cut down, no gym membership, no sky, no mag subscriptions etc just standard stuff water, electric, gas, council tax, home insurance, car insurance, BT, broadband, food, it soon racks up!

but let the women wear t shirts and leggings.

Not sure I would complain too much about the dress etiquette if that were the case (nothing above a size 14 mind and no chavs!) 😆

I recently bought a 2010 Trek FX7.5 in the sales. Very good spec for a shade over £400 (brakes aside), but not sure I would be as keen if I had to pay the full RRP of £700.

Rides well but a little short in the TT, measures up less than published geometry. I can see why there are so popular. Tyres would need to be changed for anything remotely off-road.

Is it a looker, then no.

Try to find a deal on a 2011 Felt F5 – £1700 RRP. Wheels are crap – live with them for 12 months and then buy some new ones.

I spend about £90-100 a week on food for one and do not consider myself to be particularly extravagant. I am lazy in so much as I buy my lunches at work, but don’t feel that would save a great deal. Teetotal as well so no booze in that.

I really don’t know how you can feed yourselves on £5 a day

Johnners – I wouldn’t wipe my backside with that Cochrane report.

Removing the results from a previous scientific study from a meta analysis because it doesn’t support their own hypothesis hardly meets the gold standard of scientific integrity. And, trying to justify it by reference to performing “sensitivity analysis” is just laughable.

I would say if your Depression is not showing any signs of resolving itself after a month or two then you should think of giving them a trial. They are not a life sentence.

    Things to note are that

1/ They may not work, or at least the first drug offered may not work
2/ They may work too well and make you manic
3/ They take time to work (2-4 weeks minimum)
4/ You may feel a lot worse to begin especially if you are anxious as well as depressed
5/ You will get side effects (weight gain, droopy willy, inability to ejaculate, emotional blunting
6/ Some people suffer withdrawal symptoms which can be unpleasant.
7/ They are a very personal thing one which works for one person will not work for another.

For example, there are lots of people on here describing Prozac/Fluoxetine as their life saver. It almost killed me by turning me into a highly anxious agoraphobic suicidal wreck within 10 days.

This is not to say you should not try Prozac or any other drug. Individuals experiences are exactly that, individual experiences. One drug will make someone tired and another person energized, the GP has no way to tell a priori.

AntiDs are unlike most other drugs and even other Psych drugs. Take a benzo, or an anti-psychotic and the results are pretty much the same for all people. This does not seem to apply to AntiDs.

Have you thought about Epsom or are the property prices a tad on the high side? Close enough to cycle to the Surrey Hills for MTB and only a couple of miles from where the quieter surrey lanes start for road riding? 40 mins to Waterloo.

Geometry and fit first. If they are right fit for you then consider one, if not then don’t even bother. This goes will all brands as far as road bikes are concerned.

I like the look of them, but the geometry/sizes do not suit me at all so no to Willer for me. On the other hand Colnago do fit me, so if i had the money and I wanted an Italian bike then I would have to go down that route.

Ton – look up “The natural way to beat depression” by Prof Basant K Puri (soft copy £8)

He is a Consultant Psychiatrist at a London Hospital and teaches at Imperial College. In recent years there has been a lot of interest in the use of Omega 3 oils to combat depression and schizophrenia especially ultra pure EPA (no DHA) a pure form of Omega 3 oils.

VegEPA.com sell it online. Take care if taking blood thinners (aspirin, warafin) as Omega 3 will also thin the blood.

EDIT saw your earlier post re taking Warafin, so again I wouldn’t start this approach without speaking you your GP/consultant.

I would normally go with the John Lewis brigade, but both Sony and Panasonic now offer 5 year guarantees through their own stores.

There are some very good deals at my local Sony store, when you take into account the £300 off for any old TV (e.g. 40in LED 3D jobbie for £699).

Old models on the way out and new ones on the way in at the moment so some very good deals to be had if you are happy with last season’s model.

My history is that I have had a formal diagnosis of Bi-polar 2 disorder for 5 or so years.

I was 40 when I was diagnosed following a major depressive episode 18 or so months earlier that did not respond well to numerous interventions with various anti-depressants. Chronic work stress was probably the root cause of my breakdown, but who knows for sure.

My pDoc diagnosed me at the end of a 2 hour assessment based on my then recent history. As far as I know I had no symptoms or episodes prior to that, or if I did they were mild and sub-clinical.

I struggled or refused to accept my diagnoses for a couple of years, and am still not completely convinced that the diagnosis is the correct one, although I accept it is not pure Depression, nor PTSD, etc etc.

So based on my history it would appear that it can develop late in life, but this looks rare from what I have read, and can be brought on by stressful events (post natal Mania is very common in bi-polar women). Also some pDocs are not reticent about diagnosing the illness, my pDoc has never waivered from his initial diagnosis irrespective of how I present at my 2 monthly reviews.

However, I can not help but think, that bi-polar is the fashionable mental health illness “du jour”. People seem to have more empathy for its suffers than for those people diagnosed with common garden Depression and Anxiety. After all it is a “severe illness”, no one could say MTFU to someone in a manic phase, yet it is without the fear and mis-understanding that surrounds schizophrenia.

Call me a sceptic but A list celebrities always seem to be bi-polar whereas if you are an England Cricketer then bog standard Depression will do just fine 😆

Elfinsaftey – do some research mate, bi-polar disorder is a spectrum disorder with 3 classifications 1, 2 and 3 and outside that there is cyclothymia. You do not need extreme mania to be diagnosed, only hypo-mania and repeated episodes of depression. Also BPD stands for Borderline Personality Disorder and not Bi-polar 😆

I would estimate that I watch BBC 1, Five/FiveUSA, Channel 4/More4 in fairly equal measure, with a little bit of ITV. The only thing I think I watch on ITV is Law and Order UK at the moment and the news if I have missed it on BBC

HSBC – I have been with them for 20 plus years. I have never had any problems whatsoever, their staff are helpful, respectful and I trust them. They have provided me very competitive “off tariff” personal loans, to the point I could have simply put the money in a savings account and made money.

I see no reason to change for quick incentive, knowing I then have no relationship history with my new bank. The branch staff do not know me personally, but once I provide my account details then their customer segmentation kicks in and I am made to feel like a highly valued customer.

Compare this with Nationwide whom I have had my Mortgage with for 10 years continuously, never defaulted etc etc and every time I go into my local branch I am treated like a leper. They are also difficult to do business with – you need to write to head office, I need all your details again to open that account, the next time you can see a mortgage advisor on a Saturday is in 6 weeks time, but you keep writing to me telling me to come in and speak to someone at my local branch. 20 years behind in CRM IMO.

I also have an official diagnosis of bipolar disorder. I was diagnosed about 5 years ago but it is only in the last couple or so years that I have finally come to accept it.

I now recognize that if I want any resemblance of a normal life then I will need to stay on medication for the rest of my life, otherwise the risk of me becoming severely ill is too great. Actually it would just be a matter of when rather than if it were to happen, and taking meds is no guarantee that I will not become ill again.

I now have few friends, either because I have just neglected them and distanced myself from them due to severe depression or pissed them off during my highs.

The frequency of my episodes seems to be increasing and for the last 12 or so months I have suffered from rapid cycling and mixed episodes which can be difficult to recognize and manage, especially by my GP in between visits with the pDoc. I also tend to misread the symptoms of dysphoric mania with depression although my pDoc has started to put me right

The biggest problem I face is just not knowing how I am going to feel from one day to the next, this means I find it hard to make and commit to plans. For example, I haven’t been on holiday for 5 years, despite working for an airline with all the travel perks that entails. IIRC I haven’t wanted to get out of bed since June 18th 2010, and on that day I was bouncing off the walls by midday. Or I can be low in the morning and then high in the afternoon.

The other problem is that exercise makes me manic and agitated. I think there is some interaction between the meds and hard exercise. So much for exercise being good for your mood 😆 So I don’t cycle as much as I would like to as a result.
