They're due for delivery on Monday/Tuesday next week, awaiting the bolts and swap-outs before they can be delivered. I just received my brakes and headset, forks in the post tomorrow. Headset looks very good, will go with the frame perfectly.

    It looks awesome btw.

Which headset have you purchased? Piccy?

Highly amused by all the talk of 'looks'. I personally intend to ride mine on the UK's finest trails, not sit looking at it in my front room or posing with my boyfriends in trail centre car parks.

A few garish 'Rocky Horror' graphics don't turn a carbon frame into a good looking bike.

How glad am I that I didn't purchase a 405 or any PACE frame for that matter.

I was seriously interested in the 405 but alarm bells started ringing when the claimed weight was 1lb over that advertised by PACE. Couldn't find one to test and have only seen one in the flesh so far.

Now there are two or three threads running with frame crack issues as well as the linkage problem.

Merlin get Shimano in bulk boxes from Madison so some items come in plastic bags from them. Madison are the ones who put parts into retail boxes probably adding expense and wasting cardboard in my opinion-what do you usually do with boxes?

Therefore plastic bag does not always=OE or grey parts.

I have never had a problem with any item from Merlin-top service and everything is warranteed.

    Eeerie!
Mine had obviously been reading the forum as it went into auto shut down mode today.
    Reset without any problems….thanks MilitantGraham.

My 305 has given four years faultless service BUT just out of interest, how long do the batteries last and is the £66 for battery replace?

An old mechanic (like an old wife?) told me that copperslip is mildly abrasive and is okay on car wheel nut threads, back of brake pads etc but shouldn't be used in high tolerance locations.
Tiny bit of quality cycle grease will stop a seatpost seizing (NEVER on carbon post though!) but like other posters, never had one seize before even with alloy/titanium in wet+muddy conditons.

Graphics are finalised but only Stevo at OO knows!
Photos due on site anytime apparently.
FSA Gravity SXE reducer headsets have been ordered by OO but Hope, Mythic and Chris King all do alternatives.
FSA has loose ball bearings in lower race and steel construction. Hope looks a nicer option.

    Keith Bontrager: "pick any two".

LUST Crossmark has thicker sidewalls and you'll save the weight of rimstrip.

Recent thread on here stating that tyre weight is a bit of an irrelevance off road.

I've gone back to gripshift after SLX (light feel-best Shimano at mo IMO) and XT (needs a full redesign- heavier shift feel).
Find X0 positive and after the shifters settle in, a better shift than Shimano. Panic downshifts are more instinctive once you're used to twisting too. Using with X.0 rear and XT front mech. Small weight saving.

Nothing like the hollow vibratory sound of carbon on the trail.

Decided I don't really care how it looks.

Any headset news from you On-one chaps?

18 bikes have offered the Hope headset as a mix and match.

I see theres been a fair bit of bagging on the mag lately.Ive just spent some dollaroos on the electronic sub and think its one of my best buys lately.Access to the mag straight up and a hole load of archived material.Dont think it gets much better than this for the meagre asking price.

Jumpers for goal posts, wrestling in mud, mother calling you in for tea………..mmmmmmm. Childhood isn't it.

First MTB race was Lyme Park around the Knott. Think Mike Cookson organised it or had something to do with the sponsorship. Steel forks era. Cookson rode one of those new fangled heavy Proflex suspension bikes that he'd imported from the States. How we laughed-it'll never catch on. He won and the rest is history as they say!

This is how the Chinese produce product. Little garages, sheds and rooms on back streets producing quality items because they have pride in what they do. We have a perception that unless you have a CNC machine and spotless workshop, product will be shoddy. Think again-the reality is very different.

    NICK CRAIG IN TUBES SCANDAL!

    Bl**dy h*ll mate its 2010-get with it-go tubeless.

That's the only advice I'll ever be able to give to the MTB Legend that is Sir Nicholas.

The Dyfi downhills are brutal and I'm not the slickest downhiller but I've managed to do it twice on Stans love juice and none lust Maxxis tyres.

I didn't count but there were loads of unfortunates mending punctures out there AND I didn't see one CO2 pump either-everyone was making like Popeye.

ginsterdrz – I didn't get the Lantern Rouge this time, did you? I'm guessing you were somewhere near me if you saw the folks having wine and olives at the end. "Anyone for tapas?" they asked as we went past

I wasn't last either. Not sure what time we left the forest but it was around 5hrs 50mins. My overall was 6:23mins and well chuffed to have just made it round. Bit creaky today though!

Does this mean you have a GPS track of the route? Mine turned itself off five miles in . I'd really like to get hold of the route if possible?

I've got an Edge 305 with the route recorded. Never downloaded a route from it but I'll read up and post it or email to you.

Team Tapas – Top quality and very civilised. Idea forming for next year…..Team Guinness!
