slight hijack:  how many runs can you fit if using a eBike?

    thanks

    That’s a different route.

Ah yes sorry. I did ask the same question last year, and the answer was pretty much no point to do it. Other suggestions were given ,like the loop around Beinn Damh. I went last year, and discovered some nice trails at the start of Kinlochewe around Beinn Eighe.

Lollipop option is the best way, less hike a bike, starting from Annat, and no road.

I flew from Bristol to SLC via Amsterdam. I took my bike with me as it was still cheaper than renting one for 7 days, and it was my bike. Drive from SLC was great, specially when you are jet lagged. Booking the bike using KLM was a bit funny as they said you need to pay on the day of departure at the airport. So i was afraid they will turn it away as no space available on the plane despite the fact i did book a space.

Luckily I live somewhere where I can just flick the poo into a hedge and spare the use of any bags.

I’m glad your are not living with a botanist doing regular hedge surveys.

Well…I do exactly that – Check a segment in a wood, check top leader and I download the gpx file. I do think I belong to a tiny timy minority and people will still prefer to be guided with a local or go to a trail center as it’s much easier. Segment explore need some time I’m sure most people can’t bother to spend on.

Is it this one? spotted on youtube.

This is also as featured in the Santacruz video with Steve Peat to promote the first iteration of the Solo a few years ago.

Wow it must be a sign of god – I just found the same doc that qwerty is referring to like 5min ago. I didn’t know step 3 and 4 on page 20 and 21. I’ve learnt something. Step 3 on page 24 make me wonder if i can replace a broken plate with an old one not broken and have a new working rear mech.

I usually do what makrshires said, then use this awesome tool:

    https://mapstogpx.com/strava/

    to extract the gpx file.

I really enjoyed Locked Up season I and II – I think it’s “free” on All 4 if you can stand the adverts.

Finding riders who just don’t want to ride their local trails to death. Youngster don’t want to explore anymore. When i was a student we were exploring every week end every corner of the county/country.

Just came back from a week in Scotland riding natural trails (Torridon area) and I do think i was riding them better than in the past because i went to BPW several times during the year training myself jumping and cornering.

I’m going to try Fire TV as Amazon sent me a £15 voucher and, after complaining, will not charge my Lovefilm subscription next month.

One another thing which might add to the “I don’t like trail centres” is all those eBikers pushing you out of the trail in a climb. I have to stop 5 times last week at Swinley to let them passed me. I can see this is going to not please me until i got an eBike.

I like them because i can ride natural stuffs nearby and use their cafe for a break.

As it happened, i did that ride last week end:

Not on the moor, so not the real Dartmoor experience but the singletrack were so good. The bit in the middle was a bit boring but the Hunter path has some stunning views. Here my awesomeness caught on camera:

Well if you are on Strava, that link is magical to get some gpx tracks:

    gpx me[/url]

Last week end I realized that if my GPS broke down in a middle of a ride I wouldn’t have a clue where I would have been even if i had a map. I’m thinking that my mobile phone could be a good backup as long as i got a signal but i was not really reassured.

I think that’s too many trail centres and you will get bored of them – You should fit some natural stuff – I know there are convenient, sign posted, but there will all have a samey feeling after 2 days.

Stand in the wine isle, watch what the locals buy.

Except if it’s “Vin de Table” – best keep that one for cooking or my grandad.

Not regional but i will buy St Joseph or Cote Rotie.

Thanks Stuc – with the exception of 1 and 3, i’ve already did all of them! (but still worth doing them again) I’m glad i asked. I was hoping something different. I know MBUK did publish one extended Brechfa which did look good. Then Coed Llandegla has a good one sending you out toward Llangollen.

Should see said ‘natural’ rides eroded, covered in litter and generally less natural.

From my small experience, majority of trail centre riders stick to the well signposted tracks and don’t really dare going out into the “wild”.

I don’t do bivi so i won’t dare advising you! The pictures above are not from the Beast of Llangollen but around Moel Famau and North of Llangollen.

Yes, the Cowlyd and Crafnant loop is great, or just Crafnant with a bit of the marin trail.

I went there and i discovered I was too old for this – I was only able to ride the blue and red without crashing or bailing out. I went in the evening ,late evening on Wednesday, and they only charge me £5.

Quick question: do you need to use the battery to go down or once you are at the top of the trail, just switch it off and enjoy the descent like a non-emtb? thanks

ended up climbing up/down a ravine with a waterfall in it

That’s what happens to me every weekend when I try to follow some dodgy tracks downloaded from Strava.
