    Hey 5Lab,

gonna be my first run there as I've just moved to Brighton from some time in NZ. Looks pretty good from the youtube clips I've seen.

Know any good runs round Brighton? I'm still discovering the South Downs, but wondered if there where any places like Swinley close to home? Bit of a weekend warrior so let me know if you wanna hook up for some rides as I'm pretty new to the area 🙂

    Thanks,

can anybody recommend some good spokes that don't cost the earth. Preferably black 🙂

    How much is it usually?

    Hey,

I need all the spokes replacing. The hub and rim is fine as far as I am aware.

The rim is a DT Swiss 445 D and the hub is a Shimano FH – M525.

    Hmmmmm,

that's the bit I'm not sure about. Wonder if there will be loads of feeding and water stations. Don't fancy filling the camelbak to 3 litres of water. Tried that trick on my first long distant event! Think I was carrying about 4 litres on me. Bit of overkill to say the least!

mmmmmmmmmmmmm, lots of food without the guilt! Great stuff!

Think the warden will have put Eastbourne to bed unless I get it done by about 5pm! Not very likely!

    Hey,

thanks for the reply, but I'm doing the event in June so I don't think there is an option for going the other way 😉

    Ah, sweet 🙂

Will be moving to Brighton so can practice that run knowing it's the hardest part.

The ride in NZ was hills and stupid head winds so used to some rubbish weather to contend with! Most tracks over here are more technical than the uk so that won't be a problem 😉

Just got to get someone to do that last 30 miles to keep me going 🙂

    Cheers

    Cheers guys.

Mine pretty much started in the middle of 08. I was training for a cycling event with a bike that was probably set up wrong. I did no stretches before or after either. Seems a bit dumb now, but at the time had no problems so just got on with it.

Fortunately my wife is a gp so I got to have a mri scan pretty sharpish. They found nothing wrong so I was relieved.

Been in NZ for nearly 18 months now and the tracks here are not forgiving on the climbs. Ended up going to see a physio who said I had a tight itb band and said I could do with strengthening my glute and inner quad. Problem was that I was walking for about an hour and a half each day to work so if I did any exercise the knee would get painful a couple of days afterwards 🙁 Soooooooooooooooooo many hills in Wellington. Thankfully work in nz is done now so I can take a bit of a brake.

I seem to get a little pain when I first start to ride my bike, but after that I can go on for miles with no pain doing hill climbs and everything. It's the day or two after the knee starts throwing it's teddy out of the cot 🙁 I get pain under the bottom of the knee cap and up the inside of the knee. Not sure the knee was best pleased with the 70 miler over the weekend, but it's not too bad considering. I guess it's more of the impact on the knee that sets it off.

Guess I will just have to keep pushing with the exercise and hope the pain (ache) gets less and less. Wouldn't mind a go at the taping so might see a physio in the motherland when I'm back next month.

It's just sooooooooooo frustrating when you just wanna get out there and ride without the pain a couple of days later 🙁

    Hey,

its coming from the side of the resovoir where the lid screws on with two philip head screws.

Basically the side of the lid on the left hand side of this picture.

Do I just need to replace it with a kit?

    Cheers

I’ve been in Welly for 5 months now. I am finding it really swings and round abouts. Expat I totally agree. There isn’t the trail network like home so kinda feels somehow limited to where you can ride. I am a graphic/web designer so technology is a big one for me so I’m finding things a bit backwards in that regard.

I’m really glad I came here but my heart is in the uk so will not be too upset to go home. Got lots more choice for bike stuff!!!!!

I wouldn’t bother going back if you have no job or anything or you will be turning straight back round.

my point is that this is getting out of hand. It is spoiling the racing as I am sure all this stuff used to go on without big brothers intervention.

The point is they want people to watch to see the sponsors to make the dosh. If people just get sick of the results constantly being changed they might start to switch off.

I’m not saying cheating is fine, but they pick up on every tiny point and spoiling it imo.

Also, I heard Eddie Jordan saying it did seem he was been targeted as the issue was put to bed on Tuesday, then the stewards dug up more stuff on Thursday. If it’s done its done. Shall we dig up the whole F1 past and demote past champions cos of slight rule bending or whatever?

I remember a certain footballer that used his hand! He was cheating and got away with it. All adds to the drama imo, just don’t keep moving the results around its getting stupid.

Fine, but give them an hour or something after the race. Not nearly a week later. What’s the point watching it as the places never seem to stand any more!

think its made our of old coke bottles!

I have found a glimpse of the 2010 car! Just imagine when it gets the sponsors on there!

come on guys, they do look like they have taken the f-22 raptor

and turned it into a B1B with a wardrobe bolted onto the front and some draws at the back!

Bit of a step back in design no?

that front wing for snow? I know they wanna have different conditions, but are they planning a snow race?

Dropping into the pits for spikes!!!

Gonna take a while to get used to em! check out the comparisons below:

to lock the front fork on some of the terrain I try to get up would suck!

    Rock Shox rule!

    Fox are great but expensive.

not gonna change my forks just yet, but the next ones I buy will have to have that feature.

hope they drop the technology down to the pike! Though I guess I would need to buy the new forks with the technology 🙁 Or just get some lyriks whacked on 🙂

    hmmmmm, kinda then!

Why are Rock Shox not bothering? Just in case we want to do the tour de france on some pikes?

    giddyrob

don’t those forks put the stanchions a bit close to the ground!

Paranoid enough about scratching my pikes and revs way up yonder. Costs more than a new pair to replace that bit!

Guess if you don’t go near any rough terrain 😉

the break is perfect. The loss of oil is probably good in the sense that the brakes were bled about half way through the old pads life so there was probably too much oil anyway.

Been squeezing the break a good few times, but there doesn’t seem to be any oil coming out.

I guess it will become obvious if the seal has gone cos the break will go down to the bar.

Is it easy to get a new seal put in there?

hey, fixed it. the piston was a bit on the piss. I managed to lever it back in with the old pads and some tyre leavers. A bit of oil came out though when I did this. Is that cos it was on the piss? Just put new pads in so don’t want em to start leaking on the pads.

Any thoughts why a bit of oil was released?

go light! It’s like a bmx track so no need for big tyres. Obviously if its pissing it down look for something that will stick.

Fire XC should do the job nicely. I run that on the back of my hardtail bike and a cinder at the front.

    Go folding obviously 🙂

NZ have different colours and came out earlier. They also have slightly different components I think.

But! The pro is blue and the comp is white I think.

    Brown rules though!
