I have 2 kids and barely have enough time to ride the thing otherwise I would have done it myself.

I decided to pay premium dollar and just get it done. It’s not a professional job in my book.

Taxi25 – Got my pimped out old pitch to blast the trails on while the goat gets itself sorted 🙂

I understand that it might not be perfect, but it looks sloppy. They will have got the decals at cost so made a pretty penny. If they’d spent a bit more time I now wouldn’t be asking them to start again. As a developer sloppy code bites me on my butt so it’s not worth cutting the corners.

    Cool, not just me then.

It looks like my mate’s done it as he’s done his a couple of times. Not a professional job!

Will be going back today 🙂

More the crap underneath. Shouldn’t have that. The frame was clean. The bits weren’t there when I sent it in.

I stripped the bike before the job mate :/

Exactly, I’ve seen people do it online. They should have got the crap out. Just a bit shonky really for that price. They’ll get the kit at cost so nice mark up for them.

I’m a developer and if I do shonky code it always bites me in the ass in the end!

Defo… there are a few people who ride other brand bikes that don’t like the germans 😯

    LOL 😆

Sweet as Mr…. thanks for the help. Always like to double check these things…. before I buy them and break em again 😉

Might just put it back in the shed and ride my old enduro…. She’s a bit precious the old goat…

What width for 2016 pikes? 100 or 110

BTW, so I’m not the only one who thinks the things are a be precious!

Cheers… just what I was looking at…. Done with that stupid quick release anyway. I hardly take off the wheel.

Would one of these work so I don’t have to deal with the poor quick release system.

Doesn’t mention ust and I can pick up tomorrow 🙂

UST have a tighter bead? Just checking 😉

I’ll check them out ta 🙂

If I try a non UST tyre should that make a difference?

Any good trail ones out there?

    still not easy 😉

Not doing it wrong… tried every which way but loose…. My mates life hack is the blow the tube up so much it stretches the tyre… not sure about that? BANG!

BTW, got a flow at the front and that is much easier than the stupid arch EX

Quote from post last year on here:

“Arch Ex here and yes, they’re a total pig to get tyres on to. No advice, just empathy!”

    Great….

No, but I have some with a bit of tread left. What good trail tyre would fit on the stans arch rim?

    giddyrob

I would like to get the tyres I want, not limited cos they can’t just make em a bit smaller. Daft!

I’ll check out the DT EX471 cheers 🙂

Thanks, but have a torque wrench with the square fitting… Need to know the NM as it needs to accurate apparently.

Any little cheap sets aboot ?

yup, will check those pivot bolts. The cranks are greasier than John Travolta so not sure it’s even possible for it to be coming from there 😉

I swear you need a spare bike in bits to sort this. A bit like back in the day when building computers. Used to have two so I could swap out components to trouble shoot the thing when it went down.

    BTW, I haven’t checked my earing 😉

Flat Vault pedals. Had them apart and put grease in. I don’t suspect them really as it’s a bit strange it happened at the same time on both sides. Not impossible, but not likely. They are brimming with grease now 😉

I’m thinking frame like someone mentioned as I haven’t checked the torque and I haven’t touched since I got the bike. Again, by the time this is done I’ve saved myself some money sending it to the lbs. Always a bit of a learning curve with new bikes with different components.

So does anyone suspect the cassette? Thinking of taking that apart for the laugh too 😉

    Cheers

If that’s the case then Raceface can really do one! Won’t be buying their stuff. That’s cos I heard their BB was a pile of rubbish and to be fair the bearings had pretty much gone on mine already. Hence putting hope on there as i can just swap out the bearings. Though the hope one is twice as expensive so guess I’ve paying for stainless steel bearings not just steel.

Still, all a bit precious considering the bike is for chucking off stuff. Needs to man up a bit!

I know that the chain can do it if you don’t lube enough…. spent a good few hours servicing my other bike only to find out I’d forgotten to lube up 😉

Can’t believe Mojo said that… Fox -“Buttery with a side order of old barn door”

Thanks, I think that’s the next point of call.

Just bought a torque wrench so will go round and give it the once over. There is one good thing though… I’ve pretty much serviced a load of the bike cos of it 😉

If it’s not that then I guess I’m onto the headset.

Someone needs to invent a creak tool for detecting this shit. I’ll buy one…. Take my money!

I did hear a good life hack for sorting creaks though… Put your headphones on and turn it up….. Just don’t like sounding like steptoe on the trails 😉

I’ll make a brew and fettle it 🙂 Might just be a minor adjustment to stop it popping off.

It falls off on the inside so a guide should catch it if the fettle doesn’t work 🙂

    Thanks 🙂

    Thanks guys…

Taken all apart and all tightened back up. LBS laughed when I asked about it as they’ve had a few in with the issue. Got it booked in for a hope one so I can change the bearings etc…

    Hi Steve,

    thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, it comes off the bottom as I think the chainring is a bit far away from the first gear. I do need to check the b-tension. We got it yesterday and took it straight out so I haven’t fettled it myself yet.

Be nice if I could just put a blackspire on there for piece of mind to help stop it happening as they’re pretty cheap and look pretty good too.

Not looking to change any of the groupset yet. Will probably put some SRAM gear on when the one on the bike wears out.

Should the small Blackspire chain guide fit on there? Sometimes hard to find the info. I have a non bolt version on one of my other bikes, but that has the larger aperture to fit the larger crank.

Thanks for your help with this 🙂

Cheers Steve, I’ll have a look.

He’s only 5 so don’t need to be aggressive, just better than the rubbish that came with the bike. I understand for adults as we tend to like our own pedals, but could have put some half descent ones on for the little ones.

Cheers guys… lots of great info….

Never needed to do it before as I usually have a bit of time in the day to get out on the big bikes in the South Downs.

Also, can’t really justify to the wife another bike after spending a bit of dosh on a Capra 😉

    Thanks Andy,

Well, going to try some braces to help it rest. Might be worth wearing when biking too as they give extra support to stop my ankle rolling. Easily done when on the trials.

I’m crossing fingers this will just settle down as it only started a week ago. Think my calves are tight and did a bit too much riding :/ Back to the stretches!
