GS Forest is closed to bikes unfortunately – access restricted since Tillhill took over I think.

Best bet is probably just to link up some of the BWs (eg Fort Putnam – Blencow, Greystoke Moor – Motherby (best ridden this way), GS Forest – Ellonby) with some long road legs.

Otherwise, MOAB and White101 are spot on.

Many thanks to all for your replies here.

Had a really helpful chat with the guys at Sonder HQ who have also suggested the custom Ti option as described by Liam.

    Cheers.

    I’d also get rid.

Up here we have Red Squirrel Rangers who will perform the task for you, in order to protect our Reds.

So there may be someone happy to come and do it for you – as has been said an experienced shooter with an air rifle (be it FAC or otherwise) can perfectly humanely kill squirrels / rabbits.

If not, that trap looks like good start.

Thanks for all the ideas folks. I’m heading to the garage for a proper measure up and a ponder over all of these options. Thanks a lot!

@jonba I’ve been looking at the offroad version and tried to see a way through the lakes that was a bit less full on – which route is CX bike friendly? Thanks!

    Thread resurrection!

Has anyone ridden one of these in an XL and how tall are you if you have and how was the fit?

Also – would this be any use for a bit of ‘light’ bike packing (1 or 2 night’s out, maximum). Just not sure about the size of the triangle for frame bag compatibility.

    Thanks.

Thanks Zippy – the Hope bracket is out of stock. Anyone got any other suggestions? Anyone any experience of using the Hope bracket on the DX type light? Any tweaks needed?

    Thanks!

Always been a lurker more than a poster, but posted for the first time in two years last night and got some helpful replies. There’s still a great pool of knowledge here, but it’s deffo changed in the last few years.

Not sure what has caused folks to move on….boredom?!

    http://www.downlights.co.uk/accessories/loft-caps.html

I fitted these on a total of 18 lights over three rooms when I moved in to my place.

The difference was instant (especially when coupled with a top up of 300mm across the loft!), draft stopped immediately.

    Seal em off with silicon.

    Easy.

EDIT: BEATEN TO IT!! – I should add, I’m no DIY ninja, but fitting them is a piece of pi$$.

    matt, spooky

Thanks for all the info. It’s good to have a steer :D as to what the price will be, I had wondered if it’d be as much as a grand…it looks like maybe more.

Can you remember who you used in Perth / Glasgow and would you recommend them? As mentioned by spooky, there’s loads of National firms offering training, with little or no costs available and carefully worded script to allow them to insist on further days training.

I have family in Perth, so could make a holiday out of it…and get some winter QMDs in too!!

If anyone else can recommend a NW (Penrith area) local firm, I’d be interested to hear of it.

Brilliant, thanks for all the replies.

I think I understand now that my devices being incompatible isn’t even an issue, because it’s all done via a website anyway? ie my phone will collect the data and I can then upload it to the website, which I can then access from my mac.

    Sound right?

Thanks again and those links work on my devices, so thanks again (again).

I’ve done a couple of short trips to Iceland, but would like to go back and ride round the island. I think that’d be more like a good 3 or 4 weeks though?

Met a couple of blokes in E Africa this summer who were doing Cape Town to Cairo in legs over a few years. The day we saw them, they we’re riding through Mikumi NP on their way to Dar…..right through the NP, where from the main road through the car windows you see plenty of BIG wildlife. Looked like a proper adventure!

Moved up to W of Penrith earlier this year. No way I could afford to be in the Park.

For it’s me, spot on. Easy onto A66 > to the A1 or M6 just a couple of minutes away.

Penrith’s not a bad wee town, if you need out more Carlisle, or even Newcastle is easy to get to.

I’ve found that the N and E fells are quieter than elsewhere and still lots of good walks and rides.

A couple of lads I was at college with now make this stuff:

People seem to like it, I’ve not tried it yet.

Any of the STW massive tried it? Thoughts?

I would echo what CFH said.

I bought the Denons. They were great, good fit, sounds, battery life (AA), but didn’t like being knocked about too much. I was travelling a lot with work and they were great for planes, trains, etc…but eventually the plastic cracked on the folding joints and they had more tape on them than owt else.

Got a set of Bose (the ones that take AAs….they last for ages – much more than Bose suggest they should) and am really pleased with them. More robust and the folding mechanism is much simpler and therefore less to go wrong.

In short….Bose will cost you, but they a bloody good.

If you’ve ever used anything like a back hoe or telehandler, then you can probably pick it up pretty quick, if not (as has been said!), get someone in… A decent operator will make good use of time and probably be easier to tidy up after!!

See if they deliver it on one of these:

+1 to all the above comments.

“When I were a lad” this was all part of growing up and in fact a plaster cast on your arm was a badge of honour, to be celebrated and signed by your mates!!

I hope this gets thrown out if it ever gets as far as a court.

OP, nice work. Very jealous, I’ve been in Keswick / Cockermouth all day and unable to get out and ride / walk.

Days like this make the wind and rain seem worth it!

Glad someone was able to enjoy it.

Thanks for all the suggestions…problem is that they’re all things that I’ve either done or already considered and dismissed!!

I can see it being a wet week in the lakes at this point!

    Thanks again.

    Thanks for suggestions…

Don’t fancy Thailand, as I’d rather be doing something active (insert obvious joke).

I should have been more specific and asked if anyone could recommend a particular company to go with or been to anywhere at that time of year that they’d recommend.

Budget for 2 weeks…..about £2000 all in. It’ll be the only ‘big’ holiday I’ll have for a while, so I can go bonkers! (I hope).

Plumber – Montana is amazing, I bet you’ll have a great time there.

Heading off next week and basically just looking forward to cobbled streets, nice beer and food.

Quite fancy a proper slap up meal with Mrs G one night though…any final recommendations?

    Thanks again all.

    6ft 7ins and about 90kg.

I swear by Icebreaker stuff. What I have learned though, is that they have different fits ‘Bodyfit’ is the snuggest on me and plenty long enough in arms and body.

I tried a Rab Coconut / Merino one recently, good length in sleeves and arms, but not nearly snug enough in the body. If fact it was ***kin massive, even in a large.
