OK thanks. I find that I need to add about a quarter turn on the tugs after every 2 or 3 average length rides as the chain gets really slack. This is even after 4 months.

I got a really good German one from a supplier on ebay based at Barton on Humber. I’ll send the link tomorrow if I can find it. It’s a tough design with a leather pouch. You just have to remember to take a coin out with you or similar thing for doing up the screw.

I think I’ve figured out what was happening and have fixed it. I’ve noticed that the removable dropout on the drive side had moved ever so slightly in it’s mounting due to pedalling forces so I’ve filled the small gap with chemical metal and tightened it up. Everything seems to be back to normal now. Thanks for your input.

could somebody clag on a bit of weld for you & then you file it down to size ?

I was wondering that myself. Aren’t the dropouts Aluminium though? Would it work?

I have the 09 Trance X and Pikes made a big difference. I had to have the stem low anyway to fit the steerer. Another top upgrade was fitting an Enduro needle bearing to the top of the shock to increase plushness. The bushings I got with the original own brand shock were crap and soon wore and got sticky. It’s been a great all round bike for me but I’ve not been riding it much recently mainly due to a problem with the dropouts (which I just made a post about coincidentally). I also got the downtube protector off some bloke on ebay after denting it a bit on a rock.

Ok thanks. Did you need any special tools other than a chainwhip and lockring tool?

I can’t imagine having grown up without a knife to do whittling with. Me and my mates were always going about making dens and usually used our knives for cutting string and stuff. Made lots of bows and arrows with my knife too. I wasn’t lucky enough to have an Opinel although I do have one now.

The manager needs to show them who’s boss. This would never happen at Man U or almost any other club for that matter. I’m not a Man U fan but one of the reasons they are so good is because they have respect for the manager.

I read that as ‘Foreign slut’ sorry. I expect you will find one going to that part of the world. Good luck.

Thanks everyone, some interesting looking routes there. I’ve had another idea and that’s driving to Aviemore and cycling to Bob Scott’s bothy and back via the Lairig Ghru. It’s not coast to coast but it would be amazing.

I just remembered some more. When I have a cup of tea I always save the last inch or so because I just don’t want it to end but then I forget about it and it goes cold every time. When I eat a meal I always make it so there’s a little bit of everything left for the last mouth full.

When I’m out cycling I try to impersonate farm animals when they bleet, moo, oink or whatever to see what they do.

Maybe one good reason not to sample the magic mushrooms when out hiking.

I got some sintered ones for my Juicy 3’s to replace original organics and have been very impressed with them. One thing though is they are so noisy that on tow paths I don’t even need a bell anymore, I just brake and people generally mess themselves. They might just need sanding a bit though.

I much prefer to stand up both on my singlespeed and full suss when doing steep climbs it feels much easier to me. I’m not sure why but I think it’s because I have freakishly long legs that I can’t get the most out of when seated. I also find that when I’m standing I can get my weight exactly where I want it for perfect balance and grip.

Oh darn. Is that even with their new UK warehouse open? I heard they got one built to speed things up for UK customers.

Any advice on the lights appreciated though.

I thought as much. I drive a RIB with a big metal ‘A’ frame on it so today was a bit of a concern. We managed to get off the water just before the storm passed right over us.

They’re the same price nobtwidler but don’t know how they would differ? Do I need to be careful with the type of beam to go for?

Is that Bastid head mounted or bar mounted and what’s best if using just one light? Would I be better off with a pair of Bastids?

I tried out a friends Cotic Soul single speed and it was good so I went and bought the new ‘swapout dropout’ Inbred frame and single speeded it. The whole build cost me about £450 (I already had some bits like brakes and forks) and the bike is so much fun. Personally I prefer it to the Cotic as the steering feels way more precise and planted but that could have been due to the long forks on the Cotic which felt a little sketchy up front. The Cotic maybe had a little bit more life about it but I’m so impressed with the Inbred and it gives you the option of a slot dropout if you want that option for single speeding.

I’ve got a ’09 Trance. It’s a great bike and fun on the descents but it’s not a downhill bike. I’m sure you could get something more downhill orientated with more travel that would still climb well.

OK thanks everyone. I know £25 isn’t much but it’s for my birthday and I’m only really looking for something I can stick on if a shower comes along or if it’s a really cold wind. Showers are the thing here in the west of Scotland and I don’t tend to cycle far if it’s forecast rain for all day. It’ll be used for my daily commute of 1 mile also.

I think he would be best going out past White Bridge up Glen Dee. It’s the chosen route for guided walks from Linn of Dee to Coylumbridge (through the Lairig Ghru) as it’s easier going. I can’t remember how rough it is further up though but it’s probably easier than going past Derry Lodge as it’s a gentler ascent and Glen Luibeg is steep and slabby in places. This is really making me want to get back up there this year!

Thanks that could be just the thing. Go outdoors do them for £25 and there’s one of them near me. I think they’re the same ones that I saw in TKMaxx. Not sure how waterproof they are though. It say’s they’re weather resistant. Probably OK to keep showers off though.

I’m not after anything special just a light weight waterproof for when I want to travel really light. I have a heavier jacket for winter.

I don’t have a Lidl near me but was in Aldi and they didn’t have anything. I’ve heard you can get good ones online for about £25 but not sure what makes are best.

OK I found a tech document stating that I need a 113mm spindle for a 50mm chainline. So I’m assuming this will line up nice at the rear using a standard hub conversion kit? Thanks for your tips.

Thanks for that Dave. The cranks are M510 I’ll check the tech docs. I just realised that the chainring should be mounted on the inside too.

Thanks Shackleton. Did you need to experiment with spacers front and rear or did it line up nice first time? Also: Did you fit your front chainring in the conventional position or on the inside of the brackets?

Ok. I thought maybe I’d need an extra strong BB to handle my awesome power. 🙂
