if the bearings are not stainless steel don’t buy them in my opinion. Having worked with steel all my life no matter what its coated in if its not stainless steel it will eventually rust. In saying that even cheap grades of stainless will rust so pay the coin and get a higher grade stainless bearing when you can.

The more you read about them the harder it is to pick one. I think a dreaded trip to the shops is in order to try as many as i can.

just bought one last month to replace my hawg. I went for the XL (sizing goes by height) i bought the 22L FR trail its the best pack I’ve ever used, plenty of pockets and enough space for big days out i can fit my bivy and sleeping bag in itand still have enough room to carry my usual kit.
Best fitting bag you will use without a doubt.

its my bike set up for me. As I’m 6ft 4 i put a higher rise stem on it as i was getting back pain on long rides. it seems to have helped so thats the reason for my silly looking stem.

I’ve had one for the last year its up for sale on pink bike now if your interested.(getting a tallboy LTc)

excellent bike used it all over Scotland very capable bike on any type of trail. only downside is the low bottom bracket height be prepared for lots of pedal strikes especially on natural trails.

    very helpful thread indeed.

For the guy who said he would not recommend the larig ghru on a bike he must be on drugs its a must ride trail for most people i know. If i remember correctly it was voted trail of the year by one magazine.

CRC are doing a good deal on XT brakes at the moment.

i would go with XT brakes definetely i had SLX brakes and they fade and lose almost all their stopping power on long descents/fast descents. But it depends what you ride i suppose. SLX chain set is spot on.

    Shimano!

    1. easier to service, maintain and fix.
    2. shimano will last longer.
    3. what is the deal with sram shifters they are horrible.

We will have transport so by the sounds of things getting a guide for a week then exploring the surrounding areas might be the best option. trying to pick somewhere to ride is to hard. (first world problems)

The MT500 have been faultless for me i use them all year round in scotland so they see plenty of water. Also check out maddison’s waterproof shorts they come with a lifetime warranty and are usually well priced.

If you get the Poc vpd 2.0 get a smaller size as they stretch especially when you warm up.

They might feel tight at first tho they will loosen up within 5-10 mins of riding.
