“He has stretched the scale from handle upwards. IMO.”

err, your black lines show that the scale on the before photo is “lower” above the handle, how would stretching the scale on the after photo make him taller? Would he not be shorter when compared to the scale?

Apparently a setting called “Capacity Oriented Mode” in the Tenda system can lead to slower than expected speeds. If you can find it, try turning it off.

WiFi mesh speeds are complicated. It depends on many things: number of hops, strength between hops, channel, frequency, number of antennas in the nodes, number of antennas in the client device.

If it were me I’d start from the beginning. Set the VM router to modem only and have 1 mesh node wired in. Check the speeds at various distances on 2 and 5Ghz. Then add a 2nd node and repeat. Relocating that node if necessary. Repeat.

I had the plumber fit ours during the install of the new boiler. He asked me to check the app side of things whilst he nipped to get some pipe clips or something. I found out he’d installed it in the less functional configuration so got him to change it when he came back, I basically had to tell him how to install it the other way by reading the instruction manuals for the both the controller and the boiler (that they are “approved” installers of). I would have no problems doing the same install myself in the future if I had to, assuming it’s not breaking any laws by opening that part of the boiler.

For the curious: I specifically ensured that both boiler and controller were OpenTherm compatible and the plumber had connected the controller via the simpler/dumb on/off connection instead.

Moral of the story. Either a plumber or an electrician should be able to do it, it’s not difficult. Whether they do it correctly or well depends on the individual.

That was my point. Using your iPad for 1hr a day and then plugging it back in each day is going to degrade you battery performance faster.

However it’s not really relevant to the topic, it’s not dangerous to do that, just not ideal.

An undamaged charger for a phone, tablet etc should be just fine left plugged, particularly if there’s no device charging on it.

Leaving the device constantly charging is a different matter altogether, not good for the battery.

As for having 6 or so plugged in to a multi-plug. No issue, even 6 MacBook Pros are only going to add up to about 600W so way way below what the socket is rated for.

The risks come from having too many high power devices; hair dryer, electric heater etc. And also from dodgy substandard cheap stuff.

You would write your HTML page with the input form and have it submit the data to a particular URL, behind that URL is your Python program, probably running a web framework like Flask or Django. That framework takes care of a lot of the web request handling stuff and allows you to do the processing of the data sent and form a response.

This is obviously totally overkill for something like this, particularly if it’s already been rewritten in JS, however knowledge of how to create web APIs in Python is good knowledge to have.

Alternative option; host the Python code on something like Google app engine and write a small HTML+CSS front end for it. Then it can be used on any device.

I too like the Specialized SWAT, however I notice a big difference in temperature vs just a riding jersey. It makes me feel very hot on a warm day.

Ideally, you want a set-up which allows the exclusion of the sun during summer but takes advantage of solar gain in winter. This could even be a deciduous tree for example which gives the window/house shade in summer but when all the leaves fall off in winter the sun can provide solar gain.

Yeah this is why reflective coatings aren’t something I’m looking at.

I think I need to setup some data logging thermometers and then try covering the outside of the window and compare.

Does anyone have any real world experience of external skylight blinds.

One website stated the difference between internal and external blinds as being 37% heat transmission Vs 4-14%. They are trying to sell window blinds though so pinch of salt and all.

It seems obvious that stoping the heat on the outside of the house would be better than once it’s already inside but how much better really?

Some random eBay ones. I couldn’t find anywhere that had them in stock tbh. I ended up buying 2 sets from different listings. There were 2 length pistons, depending on if you have the RSC’s or not. Both of mine have been working great since so I can only presume they are the correct size/tolerance.

I also wrestled with the circlip with picks and screwdrivers. Brakes have been great since I swapped to the aluminium pistons.

It wasn’t particularly hard but it did take a long time and if it stops part way though there is no way to resume so you have to start again and end up with dupes if you don’t delete what’s already been downloaded.

You need to use the Google Music Manager and sync your entire library. It takes forever but it works.

Trailrider Jim. That’s just not true, I downloaded all my library (some uploaded some purchased) using the downloader desktop app and they are just MP3 files. I’ve put them on my Plex server without issue

It’s likely called a garage door handle cam, as that’s what it is, it’s a cam to provide additional leverage to pull the cables when you turn the handle.

The diameter is the longest chord possible. If the (chord x pi)/2 > arc then you have less than a semi-circle so the chord is the longest distances between the two points. right?

Not sure about what to do if you have more than a semi-circle though.

Good luck finding a Topeak Swing-up. I’ve been trying to find some for my garage for a few weeks. Not in stock anywhere.

No help from me as I’ve never sold. I am surprised by 11 viewings in 8 days*. We were looking in S7,8 & 11 late last year early this year and it was very hard to get viewings as they filled up super quick as you say.

5 years old means they are likely the same version as mine are. I swapped all the caliper pistons and seals after having the same issue. It didn’t help. Turned out it was the lever piston. That model has plastic ones which warp eventually so don’t move back and forth freely.

After changing the lever pistons to new metal ones (make sure you get the right length ones for the R (the long ones I think) and the right kind of pliers for the split washer clip thing!) the brakes were perfect.

    56v x 5ahr = 280whr x 5 recharges = 1400whr
    1400 / 12v = 116.666ahr for your 12v battery.

multiply by 2 to avoid discharging below 50% and then add a bit more for losses, call it 250ahr.

Payback times depend massively on your usage patterns, if you are out all day at work then you’re not going to get as much benefit. The OP usage patterns sound a-typical and they would likely see more benefit from solar panels. Impossible to say without knowing any more details.

However the economic viability of solar isn’t what was asked. They wanted installer advice, of which I have none (I did install some on a campervan!), so I’m out.

You layout description almost matches what we did in our bus and we were happy with that. You box is bigger than the bus was though, we had the bed at the back but down the length rather than width (was only ~180cm wide). The boot opening wasn’t big enough for upright bikes either so they were laid over.

Nelson – loads of great trails around
Kaiteriteri – smallish trail centre 2 min ride from the beach
St Arnaud’s – a couple of quite technical trails if you happen to be passing through
Cragieburn – good trails, big climbs though.
Hamner Springs – a few trails here, less technical, possibly some nice easy scenic ones too.
Dunedin – signal hill. Some really good trails here. There’s a long green to the top where there is certainly a good view.
Wanaka – Stickey forest. Also plenty of scenic stuff around the lake
Queenstown – bike park obviously, also 7 mile too. Again plenty of scenic routes, like to Arrowtown.
Cardrona – worth at least days visit,
Te Anau – Scenic routes along the lake. There’s a few short trails at Perenuka just outside of town.

We used https://www.alphatravelinsurance.co.uk/ for our 2 year stay in NZ. Struggled to find anyone else to cover us for that long a trip and for the type of activities we would be doing. We never needed it so no idea if they were actually any good.

As for bikes I shipped mine out on slow boat and then shipped it back freight. Trying to figure out the baggage allowance across multiple airlines was a nightmare as we went to Bali for a week on the way there and Australia on the way back.

Did this last week for my parents. Did the upgrade and was going to buy a key of eBay but it appears to be fully activated already after the upgrade.

Do the upgrade and then worry about the key later if it says you have to activate.

Kids do certainly complicate your situation. I’ll add this anecdote to my list of reasons not to have kids.

Try to take something from knowing that your kids are in a better scenario than the child your wife is in court about.

I also have a somewhat similar scenario with my parents (in their 70s). My mum runs the local food bank and my dad is her lackey. It never stops. Their house has more food in it than some supermarkets and it’s a constant stream in and out. It takes up so much of their time and dictates when they can/can’t go away. Thankfully it looks like they’ll be handing it off to a new organisation early next year.

Several sacks of the presents that were supposed to be delivered yesterday by my partner and her children’s services department are now in our lounge. Someone crashed the van they were going to use! Now she has to run around on Monday instead.

Which bit annoyed you? Her having to work late or you having to sort out the kids?

We don’t have any kids so her having to work late at last minute doesn’t bother me as it normally doesn’t impact me. (Other than eating tea alone and watching TV).

If your fridge can run on gas then don’t run it on electricity off the battery. They are woefully inefficient when running on electricity.

If it’s a DC compressor fridge then it can be run off a battery.

However 110ah is a bit too small to run a fridge off. You’ll be taking it way down overnight.

We spent 18m living in a converted bus in NZ with only solar power (and gas for cooking), no alternator charging.

We went for 150ah of lithium (LiFePO4), in simple terms these have twice the capacity of a lead acid battery.

We had 2x270w panels fixed to the roof.

Personally it annoyed me to see caravans and motorhomes costing many times what ours did with a poxy 100w panel on the roof and a generator running or the engine idling.

Thanks for the info. The GPSMAP 66 series look pretty good.

    Anticipating a follow up question:

What are the best options for European maps (Austria primarily)? keeping in mind ease of use over cost, buying an SD card of maps that just works is more preferable than having to manually download maps and put them in the right place on an SD card, even if that saves a few ££.

Including the inner ring road in the zone is a potentially problematic choice. Driving from one side of the city to the other without going on that road means traversing more hills and cutting down more back streets and residential streets.

That might actually make pollution (and traffic) worse in those areas.
