What was the conversation with the owner? Could you not just say you aren’t sick anymore, then continue WFH, as per HR?

Mega long story but he also thinks I’m not working hard enough! They gave me a vehicle with a tracker and didn’t tell me. Despite the fact we’re in a pandemic he wanted me out all day cold calling. Despite the fact I’ve already brought in some big jobs on the phone.

So he sent me home today after telling me my notice was already typed out and offered me to go back tomorrow to convince them why I should stay.

For them to have given you ssp, you would need to have a doctors note, I assume you don’t have one, as your injury didn’t prevent you from working from home?

No doctor’s note, wasn’t asked to get one either.

They’d sanctioned me from working from home previously.

    Thanks guys.

The assessment of meniscus tear was on the back of the pain being inside my knee, it not locking, seizing or collapsing on me and on that basis no reccoendation for surgery and if it was it’s be probably 18 months before i got one.

Other option would normally be an injection but that’s been taken off the menu because it lowers your immunity and with COvid they’ve stopped that too.

So I’ve been told to try and right it with careful stretches, but having been in constant pain for 6 weeks I’m exhausted.

My Mrs has an E Class Cabrio, 3.0 Diesel. 1st service was due last summer and the main stealer wanted £449. It had 6k on the clock.

I found a Merc specialist who didi it for £156 using petronas oils as per Mercedes dealer and it was registered on the mercedes system, she had a notification on the Mercedes Me app before I even got the car back home.

Only difference was I had to occupy myself for an hour whilst they did it instead of be given an A class to drive around in for the day.

I will go out my way to advise anyone not to get a Ring product.

Two weeks before my garage was robbed, the two Ring ‘stuck up cams’ were watching out the front of the house, cartching al the usual boring stuff like bin men, dog walkers and even a spider on the camera.

The night my bike was robbed I went to review the footage and there was an 8 hour black hole.

I contacted Ring (not easy and involved social media stalking) and they decided to look into it.

I was scheduled a call with some ‘manager’ in the USA who listened to my concerns and when she was told the value of the bike she pretty much stone walled me.

Got the ‘we don’t guarantee performance or accept liability’s stuff.

The major flaw with Ring is it only records upon detection of movement. No movement, no recording.

My next door neighbours Nest caught the footage but bike was never seen again.

Ring wouldn’t even offer refund, so took it back to Argos and bought Nest.

That said, If i was to have another system I’d go for a Wired hiki vision system becvasue theyre not suceptible to wi-fi/RF jamming.

i was heavily into TRX a few year ago and it’s fanatastic. You can make it as dificult or as easy as you want. I bought one at start of lockdown and mounted it to my gargae ceiling and not used it yet but will be soon as i’m now a proper fatty and the TRX is great for strenghtening the core.

i got stung about 6 years ago from one of these scam companies whilst searching for a nuymber for the Child Support Agency!

At the time I thought it was odd that the CSA would have an advert on google and still rang the number which ws ‘DirectnumbersGov’.

After two hours on hold I got the inevitable long ringing out tone then call dumped. I’d listened to a two hour recording of on hold music.

Buried deep in their ‘T’s & C’s’ was ‘refund policy’ which said if you’re unhappy with the service they will refund you the cost with proof of your phone bill. So i got the phone bill, saw £6 entry for th number an printed it off.

I found the site, got details of who set it up, it was a company Ltd by guarantee if I remember, verified it with google maps, took screendrop of it and essentially sent the owner an email swaying I’d rumbled his scam site.

I then played him at his own game and sent him an invoice for £250 for my time and if not paid in seven days i’d drive to Romford and deliver CCJ documents personally at the cost of £1000.

Literally by 9:30am next morning he’d sent an email saying he denied the claims the business was a scam but to compensate me for my time he would pay the £250 and he did within hours!!

I’ll have a root around my emails and see if I can find it and post it.

Interesting comments as predicted and almost a marmite thread.

My last company car (A4 2.Tdi) was costing me £350 extra tax per month, couldn’t tow a horse box (although no imperitive requirement) was shit in the snow and didn’t carry much goods.

I don’t care about environmental issues, a 2.0 diesel truck probably has less impact on the planet than a hybrid out together from all 4 corners of the globe and employing children to dig for raw materials for the batteries.

    Lighting designer here…

Firstly, don’t bother with the council. Ask the site manager for details of the M & E consultant who’s specified the lighting and get onto them and ask them if the lighting plots have a light spill calculation.

Whenever doing external lighting a good designer will do a light spill calc which looks like contour lines around the lumainaires and each line will have a value denoting how much light is spilling away from the property.

When I’ve done old people’s homes and games courts (MUGA’s) the council are the first to kick off about light spill.

The contractor has probably got the job on price and will be fitting the cheapest crap he can justify as equal or approved and I’ll bet my bollerx to a barn dance they’ll be spewing light and a quick test at night with a lux meter will catch them out.

Isn’t a missing DPF an MOT fail now? For £50 it sounds worth having

I believe there’s a way around it, as long as the emissions are within range and this has an MOT on it now.

EDIT: There seems to be a shortage of concrete fence posts, gravel boards and fence panels ATM. Also postcrete is out of stock everywhere.

two places near me have all of it for delivery 7-10 days, I think the big rush is slowing down.

The existing fence has 2.5m spacings as it’s entirely wood, so hoping the holes into fresh soil may be a little easier!

so you could probably just about get by on your own if you’re quick making sure things are straight once they are mixed and setting

I was thinking about making some sort of wooden brace I can slide over the post and hammer into the soil to hold post whilst post mix sets.

i bought a Dell one (27″) and unless you have a dell PC the speakers are an aboslute nightmare to get going. Spent hours trying to do so and then one day just after a Windows update they came alive and sounded absolute gash!

I also bought it not checking if it had a VESA mount as I wanted to mount it on the wall and hey presto they didn’t. I though every monitor would have them, but not Dell low spec ones.

my OH has two curved samsung ones and to be fair they’re great.

i was disposed off two weeks ago. 18 months of hitting targets, doing £4.5m in a year meant nothing.

I was the only person on the team there less than 2 years, easy to get rid of me without any process cos the law is an ass and allows it.

I had a 2016 2.2 Tdci which used the very popular engine that was used in dozens of cars, Inc jaguar and LR products. Mine was the Sport with the two stripes on the bonnet. Did 22k in a year and heres the low down.

way better built than any Vauxhall/Fiat/French option.
2.2 155bhp engine felt strangled, had mine re-mapped to 190 bhp and MPG went up and removes the 102mph speed limiter they come with as standard.

At the time, the new panther 2.0 engines were having horrendous issues with oil and filter change warnings and ford did a re0mod which basically increased the length of the dip stick.

The 2.0 is much smoother than the 2.2 and if you can get the right standard of spec, then don’t worry if its underpowered, theyre all the same engine and a £300 remap will see you over 200bhp regardless of wether you bought 100bhp or 170bhp model.

The standard locks are STILL utter gash. Factor in £160 for a Hykee lock replacement.

Very car like to drive, the good spec models are a nice space to be in,

They have clutch assist/anti-stall, so you don’t need to rev the engine to get moving, but people do and then slip the clutch too much and complain about a jerky drive.

Far more passenger room and oddment storage than a VW Transporter. I’m 6’1″ and the VW salesman perturbed me as much as possible against a test drive, celarly knew the steering adjustment and bulkhead on the VW is short and not very adjustable.

If you get anything with 18″ wheels they have extra load car tyres fitted, so the fronts wont see much beyond 12k and 25 aboslute max on the rears. I did get dome great Falken FR433’s on mine after the fronts where done after 8k!

    I’d have another one tomorrow.

However, having said that, an Electrician isnt a restricted job, anyone can call themselves an electrician. There are some real cowboys out there fitting outside lights etc. It is the detail required to know that what you put is is safe, and many people do not know that.

When I’ve added anything to my own houses i’ve just put a fused spur in to protect whatever i’ve added and calculated the wattage etc to ensure it isn’t going to overload.

I’ve added heaps of lighting to houses no problems and tend to ensure everything is protected and easily isolated. The things I won’t know unless i’m on the job is the tricks of the trade, like fishing cables etc etc…

the 18th edition question is more about how I legitamise the business concept without having to do the whole full on sparky thing, as that’s not what i’m interested in doing.

    What’s the backup of?

just photos and files from an old mac.

With this being my own PC i’d like to put the back up on the laptop so I’ve got the photos and stuff on more than one device.

Can I edit the partition then, allocate more space to D drive?

sorry, it’s relative to that awful tag someone on facbook to nominate an album/photo crap thing.

I suppose the anser is recurring because it never stops, but the question is if I nominate one person a day and they had to then further nominate a person a day for ten days, how many people would have posted crap photos in ten days.

what brand of car is it?
As long as Halrods uses OE parts and does the same schedule you should be fine, although I personally wouldn’t let them wash my car.

I had the Mrs’ Merc E class serviced yesterday for it’s first service, which is a month overdue. I took it to a Merc independent who used merc parts and registered it on the Merc DBS system and it cost £156 Vs £449 from the Merc dealer. So we saved £300 and all i lost out on was sitting in a fancy showroom drinking awful coffee with wi-fi.

She’d already had a notification on her phone telling her in the Mercede app that it had been serviced, very impressed.

Thanks for the excellent replies so far people, some great suggestions and i’m quietly absorbing the content and ideas being thrown at me.

I’ve had a lot of counselling over the years and have access to one that knows me quite well now, although having thrown thousands at counsellors over the years for phobia management I’m even at the point now where I genuinely thing getting wider opinions offers me a wider perspective and take out of that what is relelvant.

    Great comments, keep them coming!

I had two of their ‘stick up’ cams fitted last year. They were triggered by anything and everything and low and behold the very night our garage was burgled and bike taken they saw nothing for 9 hours.

Police soco said £30 jammers sold (ironically by their parent company – Amazon) are used to jam them.

Biggest flaw with them is they only work on motion and there’s no back end to record like Nest does.

I complained to Ring and in true Amazon fashion they washed their hands of it and stonewalled me.

Took them back for refund and fitted Nest which has been faultless and has better camera quality.
