I’ve done a few around Delamere and as already suggested jump in on the Twelve 50 cycles Wednesday night rides as Matt and Rick know it like the back of their hands.

    Here’s a few of mine

I’m part of a St Helens based bike club http://www.thewoollybacks.co.uk who ride there regularly. Like the tracks i’ve listed they are always ‘off piste’ and we have several members who go out and plot new routes as well as maintain the cheeky trails.

    Epic!!

FWIW on the JT issue, I think he thinks that he’s invincible. His sheer arrogance and cock sure personality will find him innocent of everything other than being a complete t-w-a-t

i pulled up to a McDonalds drive through a few year ago and ordered a brekkie, the guy in the window asked me if it was to take away…

Not wanting to waste an opportunity I said , “nope, was just pre-ordering so it would be ready when I get in…”

That 12 month period should be re addressed

It is. The plans are to make it 24 months

I read it that the report suggest making it easier to remove lazy staff and not remove the unfair dismissal option.

I’ve worked with loads of work shy useless **** who have quite well paid secure jobs but because they have employment rights they’re just tolerated.

On the other hand myself as salesman I very rarely have the luxury of employment rights because we as a rule are so heavily performance targeted and when companies want rid of salespeople they move the targets and get rid.

i’ve been a salesman for 20 years and every contract I’ve signed has this clause, never once been held to it. I struggle to imagine a situation where I’ve ever felt the need to use my contract to defend the hours I put in.

I’ve been chewed up and spat out by numerous companies over the years and I (as said earlier in the thread) never burn my bridges, I professionally move on and look upwards.

I was managed out of a business in August (came on here for advice back then) and within a month found work. A month into that job I’ve been poached by a competitor to the company who got rid of me via compromise agreement, £8K pa more basic, nicer car, better products and OTE of about £30K more if I bring in the same business i was bringing in for previous lot.

    I call it Karma myself.

woo hoo, got the job!! They gave me 10/10 for the presentation :P

cheers Don, I’m aware of that and concur! They want someone to do CPD presentations and I think that even if I fluff the presentation I’d still get the job because I took a lot of business off them in my previous role so they know I can do the job, I think they just want to see if I can do a little bit more than the others in the equation

i SS’s for the first time last night and was pleased I went SPD, you can really get on top of the cranks when lung busting it up the hills, and you don’t need to worry about your positioning on the pedal.

my 2009 MB has started to stall on startup, sometimes I have to switch it off and back on again using power button to force shut it down.

    need to investigate

they now do a 4″ model as opposed to the 5″ and correct about 80mm.

I did wonder wether your comment was going to start ‘before it breaks’

the answer to that is of course ‘imminent’

I’d equip them with a big eff off water cannon like the airport fire service tenders have and as soon as the buck fast fuelled fuktards launch their offensive I’d sand blast the bastards with the 10 ton supply of grit in the hopper behind the driver, job done and maximum job satisfaction for the driver. Who knows, may even de-ice the roads too

i looked into this as a change from sales as I’m sick of being the first bastard out the door when things go wrong. My ex’s brother drives a this exact £300K coach :

It’s got poker table in the back. leather seats, TV’s, satellite and wi-fi etc. He’ll never drive a better vehicle. He works 6 days a week, away every night and put up in cheap hotels and even has to pay for his own food every night. He ferries premiership footballers and air cabin crew around, away from home most of the week and more often than enough when he gets back to base at 3am he then has to clean the coach inside and out. He doesn’t even earn £19k

I looked into getting HGV license and most agencies won’t entertain you without 200hrs per six months experience

Hmmm! If it can understand my Northumberland accent I’ll be well impressed.

Same here, broad Ashington pityacker accent cross bred with 12 years of Wigan(see) will provide some great entertainment.

The ball bag I work with queued up at 6am, once in the shop was given a queue ticket and time slot, he went to move his car to find a £30 ticket, so he moved it again to another spot and when he came out he’d got another one.

This was all after he rang work to say he was having a bad morning and would be in later (recently had kidney transplant so is off/late frequent) and meanwhile his dad who deals with the company had rang in to place an order and asked if he’s been into work yet and showed off his shiny new phone that he’d left home at 5:30 to go and queue up for.

Boss isn’t happy and the best bit was he left his wallet on the counter at the shop and when he went back it was nowhere to be seen! Pillock

May be worth checking if your favourite apps have been updated to work with iOS5 before upgrading though.

I think part of the app developers agreement is that they have to make all apps future proof, prevents them from re-charging when the phone is changed. I bought a 4 last week and all the apps that were on my 3GS transferred fine.

For the record I intentionally swapped a week before the new model, I don’t want to be another apple development customer and a 4 on IOS 5 is as near as dammit for the money.

My lass has a 57 plate Chavrolet and it’s actually better built than a corsa but it’s still a dreary poorly built to a budget POS. With regards to the ad in question, GM obviously view the common american student as thick as shit if they think they”ll fall for their strap line.

I bought a £3300 Rumblefish 2 in March and sold it in June. Trek/specialized let their accountants have too much influence in their build schedules and as such allowed someone to fit a low tune RP23BV shock to a 19″ 29er. With the maximum 300psi in the shock it would still only acheive 40% sag!!

It climbed like a pig and bobbed like dobin the donkey. I contacted Mojo who told me for such a big bike it should have a medium or high tune shock so I rang Trek UK who arranged me to take it back to the dealer who sent it back, Trek sent it back saying it was fine!!

I rang Mojo back who were gob smacked. I sold it on for £800 loss. The Lapierre 514 i replaced it with which is a 20″ has a high tune shock and is flawless with 220psi in it.

I presume the manufacturers just buy a boat load of bits and make them fit the whole range to keep the costs down.

I wouldn’t even buy a trek inner tube now, which is a shame seeing as I’ve spent well over £10k on bikes this year…

+1 and i’ve ‘clicked’ with it better than the 2011 Cube Stereo I bought then sold and better than the 2011 Runblefish 2 29er I bought then sold :D

Twelve50 cycles in Frodsham have a 2012 314 in the shop now, Ric or Matt will look after you, great shop to say the least

I worked with a bloke in 1984 who’s idea was for a flat screened pc no bigger than an A4 notebook with a touchscreen.

Barry Hunt where are you now?

I’m quite heavy footed and the manual 174ps diesel achieves late 20’s easily, it can get mid 30’s whereas our X trail gets into the 40’s and still has 170ps but from a 2.0 litre.

The X trail is a freelancer equivalent but much bigger. The later models got a bigger boot and are a great car indeed. Bigger than rav4, bigger than freelancer, cheaper running costs and better 4 x 4 system and build quality. It’s not as big as Pathfinder but not far off in reality. The Pathfinder is an american market car and it shows in it’s size and road holding. The other option is to buy a Navara and stick a truck man top on the back, you’ll benefit from lighter unladen weight and £215 commercial VED as the VED isn’t based on emissions whereas the Pathfinder being the same chassis but with heavier back end is.

yes, I had one, very very reliable, very rugged and spacious and user friendly. The downfall is the running costs, but still cheaper than a LR to run by a mile. Some of the earlier ones eat clutches for fun but later models where rectified.

Most dealers will give you a god deal as they aren’t as sexy as the LR products but unless you want big towing capacity then I’d go for an X trail like we did. Hold their money better, nicer to drive, still capable of towing a horse box, still good in snow and don’t have a £425 tax disc

Nice to see this thread is still going strong!!

    update:

I’ve had a knee problem which I’ having physio for which has prevented me from exercising but the good news is I’m well on the way with a more stable healthier diet. Cut out a lot of the cola and chocolate and feeling better and lost a little weight but will push harder in next few weeks once I’m on the bike(s) again.

keep up the good advice chaps!

I invented common sense, prudence and confidentiality and as such would un-invent and expose my inventions to potential imitators by simply answering a question such as yours on a very popular internet based forum.

For that reason, I’m out

the reason why a lot of small cars have incredibly small towing limits is a) the car normally has to be 20% heavier than the load and b) small cars like smart cars, Ka’s, IQ’s etc have a very short wheelbase and having a longer heavier trailer would make them incredibly unstable.

in keeping with other comments I find 28Kg nose weight unbelievable but I wouldn’t exceed it, it’s there for a reason. It may have some relevance to the structure of the chassis at the rear. If your car is short I doubt the tow bar has much leverage to the chassis and overloading the bar may force the floorpan/chassis to stress.

How much do you reckon all those component would cost?

That’s almost irrelevant as the factory would get economies of scale.

I bet the bikes have benn nowhere near Switzerland……

No but if the company is based in switzerland Evans will have to pay them swiss francs irrespective of where the actual stock is.

    geordiemick00
    Free Member

Are Evans listing/importing higher spec bikes than last years ones?

Most major manufacturer list a couple of ‘money no object’ bikes in each cataegory – if nothing else they can show pictures of sponsored riders on a bike they actually list as available to buy.

couldn’t have put it better myself.

I’d suspect the £8K bikes account for about 0.1% of their turnover…..

I’m a company car driver and feel the same about some other peoples vehicles. I guy near me had a Saab 9-3 and he never once cleaned the brake dust off the front wheels in the three years he had it. It just made him look like a scruffy bastard

The only thing that got me off a motorbike was the banks pulling the plug on my business in 2007 and subsequent bankruptcy. I’d have another one tomorrow if I hadn’t of spent £13k on MTB’s in the last year
