I had them on my Cube Stereo Race and have the RX1’s on my Lapierre and if you can stretch to the One’s then go for them. THey were the most powerful and least trouble free out of any brake I’ve had between RX1’s/Hope M2’s & X1’s and Elixir’s. DON”T expect superstars pads to work well with them though, they’re quite a thin pad and the SS pads trail a bit when new, you can sand them down or just bed them in on bike but I CBA with that hassle. The A2B pads worked well, Goodridge a lot better but pricier

Ex demo would be fine… Ex lease, hire or company car definitely not.

my ex company car has use gone back to lease company, £2k of extra’s, serviced by dealer per schedule with every single inspection sheet done at 10k, valeted every year and mainly driven motorway miles, it’s a minter and would make a great purchase and the fact that it’s still worth £10K with three years 90K on the clock proves there’s a market for them.

Most hire cars are sold before their first service and washed every hire, bodywork checked, wouldn’t put me off for the right price.

The most troublesome car I had was an Audi A6, three engines in 10 months and 42,000 miles, was a heap of shit to say the least. Some cars are pigs regardless of who was the first to drive it or what brand it is.

I’ve had an extraordinary twelve months on MTB’s and come to the same conclusion.

I’ve blown over £15K on bikes and bits and it’s got me nowhere fast. I should really write a book about my obsession with wasting money and mountain bikes and as I write this I’ve got my two bikes in FS section as I seriously can’t be bothered no more.

They were a way for me to get distracted from an unhappy relationship, riding four to five times a week and when I got out of the relationship I spent more time with my daughter and met someone else. Ive had bad injuries from crashing and don’t have the time.

I’ve been reckless with cash and bought all the latest gizmo’s, sold them for way less than I bought and when I lost my job regretted it hugely. I started in 2009 with a Spesh FSR XC which was a £1300 bike which got me everywhere and was brilliant, when I got a rare £13k bonus in Nove 2010 I went out and spent £2700 on a Cube Stereo, but got wrong size. I crashed that in March 2011 and bought a £3300 Trek Rumblefish 29er a month after spending £2k on a Niner Air 9 which I needed for the softer rides. I sold the Cube for £1700 at same time.

Sold the Niner in June for £1300

In April I bought a Cube £1000 road bike which got used about 5 times and sold in October 2011 for £480
In July I sold the Rumblefish as trek wouldn’t change the shock for the correct one (a long story) and sold it and bought a Lapierre Zesty 514 which gelled with me more than any of them but lost my job in August and despite getting a decent redundancy payment I still haemorrhaged cash like the NHS. I got another job quickly but still felt the need to buy an On One Single Speed for the winter rides.

I’m now in a position where my other hobby of Roller Derby (roller skating) is easier, keeping me fit and share it with my daughter so we spend quality time together.

The bikes barely get ridden and are assets I need to sell. I have loads of top quality kit and hoping to hang on to one bike as I would like to get my mojo back soon and enjoy it, but for the moment my bikes are a way of raising funds for christmas presents until my job starts paying in the new year.

I’m also looking for funds to get some CBT as my life in 2011 has been a mess and whilst I should be sitting pretty having had over £40K go through my account I have **** all. I don’t had any debt which is good and I’m generally happy but internally i’m at a loss as to why I got here………

he needs to take the camera off, take a chill pill, ride in cycle lanes and not ride like he’s driving a car otherwise he’s going to film his own death, heart attack or murder.

Yes there was some shocking driving but as cyclists surely we all should expect drivers expect to see us driving near the kerb and using as little room as possible?

i’m an ex honeywell sales engineer and i’ll offer the following advice: (not read all replies so apologise if treading on toes)

Does your CH system have a wall mounted thermostat?

It should by law have one that provides ‘boiler interlock’ i.e. switches the boiler pump off once room has reached the temperature set. TRV’s do this but when the rad’s reach temp the TRV’s close but the boiler still pumps and causes chatter/hammer, a wall mounted timer/thermostat sends a signal back to boiler to stop pumping.

You should have at least one radiator WITHOUT a TRV, this is called a bypass radiator and allows some flow throw the system if all TRV’s are closed.

The system should have an automatic air bleed valve fitted, this bleeds out the system slowly and over the first few months of install should be slowly set to closed.

i’ve never seen the attraction in drinking at home, i’m no lightweight but I can go for weeks without a drop passing my lips and it don’t bother me at all. I see people rolling into work the next morning who stink of drink, they’ve probably driven over the limit and look like their head is about to burst but feel that they don’t have a problem.

until they get stopped for drink driving the next morning and then it suddenly becomes a debate about ‘was it worth it?’……….

As for covering a landlords costs, it is a business you know teh tenant will move on, so make sure your business plan covers it

    Nice comedy comment that.

Show me someone who can foresee the unforeseen and I’ll show a business plan that would see it coming, but a £500 monthly rent would rise to about £1500 a month to account for all eventuality.

Pricing parity would put a blur TRc at ~£1800. That would be nice.
    Instead, it’s £2699.

As is Niner’s pricing, and every other american brand…

I don’t recall CRC crying to the USA when a lot of people were buying from over there when the exchange rate was $2-£1

I think this is a myth, in my locality a rental house with tenants in on an AST is worth more than an empty rental house. Yet every estate agent or letting agent I have spoken to will always say that you have to get rid of tenants before you put it on the market.. Fools.

Wholeheartedly agree Toys but that only works if they are looking for a commercial buyer to take the tenant on too. A domestic buyer won’t go through with a purchase on a house with tenants in case they don’t move out or delay the sale, especially with a chain.

I sold quite a few in-between 2005-07 where tenants were served notice to sell up because the houses were in demand, but as Hels has pointed out tenants should know that they are not guaranteed a home.

In the current climate a landlord would be a fool to do that

to answer above a contract is a contract but if you awarded an unreasonable contract i.e. 10 years it could surely be argued that 10 years is too long? Shorthold isn’t 10 years! A local housing authority uses a totally different agreement to a commercial landlord who needs the flexibility to take possession back in case they need to sell up, move back in if it was their main residence or in many cases put a tenant in who is willing to pay more rent. It’s easier to do that than enforce a rent rise.

Most agents are unwilling to offer more than 6 months because once tenancy has been granted the LL can’t serve notice so giving a tenant 12 months contract is potentially an expensive mistake. I gave a few out but only if they paid 6 months up front but they normally got a discount on the monthly rent too.

let’s separate the OP’s needs from the massive swathe of blue badge holders who are fleecing the system because they get weekly headaches and are classed as disabled.

Cycling offers huge benefits to less able people and these are often overlooked in favour of easier ‘boxes to tick’ for charities/local authorities.

The reality is the cost of such bikes and the very specific needs of the ‘rider’ make mass production bikes very rare and expensive. I used to work in this industry and the average bike would cost £6K, albeit a premium powered cycle and built to high quality but the benefits were immense.

I used to drive the length and breadth of the country in a 3.5ton Sprinter with £50K of demo stock in the back and do demo’s to all sorts of people. From 3 year olds with cerebral palsy who needed a trike with lots of supports on the seat etc to 70 year old stroke victims looking for a relaxed recumbent cycle to get fit on.

One thing was common was lack of funding. Most occasions I left a copy of a quote and they would write off to various charities or the wealthier people would buy them there and then but there was still plenty who were wealthy but expected a charity to cough up.

Either way we should all be doing what we can get anyone not able to cycle enjoy the sport we all love and let them feel included.

After foolishly blowing £15k on bikes in the last twelve months I’ve spent a lot of time in bike shops, mainly Twelve50 cycles in Frodsham. I’ve seen many a tyre kicker come in, use about an hour of manpower dithering about which bike they want, narrow it down to one and then say “well I’ll have a chat to the wife” and then disappear never to be seen.

If they allowed said tyre kicker to disappear into the local woods they not only allow a total stranger the option to destroy the bike, but they probably won’t be insured for the stock to be given out on demonstration this way, they would then still get the same weak “need the wife’s permission” at the end of the ride and then spend another hour cleaning the bike to make it look presentable enough to be desirable for the next person.

After a few months a bike they could have got full RRP for is now worth a lot less. Multiply that by the whole range and they’ve given away a lot of profit.

It weeds out the serious buyers from the moaners, tyre kickers and thieves.

yes judges and courts do make judgements that have no basis in law – and the then get reversed and admonished if they do.

not in my case!! I deducted £75 off a tenant’s bond for damage to a carpet, the judge was given pre check in photo’s, an inventory signed by tenant on check in, photo’s of the damage and invoice from carpet cleaners without any additional mark up or admin fee.

He asked me where it said in the contract I could do this and pointed it out to him and he looked at me and threw the contract back at me and said ‘well the landlord has had the benefit of the rent’ and awarded the judgement to the tenant.

It was at that point when I thought I was taking my commitment as a letting agent too seriously to be getting CCJ’s in my name, paid the amount, walked out the door to meet my client who was a 30 year veteran landlord who was gobsmacked that we’d lost.

I sold up within a month and got out. Understandably there are people who hate landlords and agents and a lot are justified but I was the only agent with over 300 properties who could be contacted directly on a mobile by landlord or tenant any time of the week.

I had a similar problem after a dismount. I thought it had recovered and after 6 months had to get a sports physio who sorted me out and the muscles around my knee were firing in the wrong order. A few simple exercises a day and a massage got them working again.

My physio charged £20 for the pleasure, simples.

    Try adductor exercises daily.

TJ i am aware that i cant just turn up at the house as its in breach of the tenants right to privacy or something along the line.

letting agent told me that as they had signed a 6 month contract we can issue them a s21 in the fourth month so they have to move out at the end of their 6 month period??

    is this correct?

You can turn up, post a letter 24 hours previous and under the circumstance this is classed as reasonable.

They will have to move out at the end of the 6 month period as long as notice has been served on fourth month. I would guess you won’t see any rent in month 5 as they will pull the old ‘take it from my bond’ chestnut….

Ask your LA who is holding the bond and do your homework in getting in back in a timely fashion.

I became a letting agent because all 5 i used were utter shit. They are in general an unregulated, poorly trained and unprofessional industry, I would (as TJ has suggested) self rent and get on them thar forums, you’ll learn far more from experienced landlords and their experiences and often get access to solicitors who advise for free on them too.

    good luck

as an ex letting agent of over 400 properties I have the following advice.

    a) put your letting agent on notice and request no further involvement from them beyond the date of their notice. They will either get into gear and recover the rent or do nothing, they sound weak to say the least.

    b) door step the tenant. He may be in the middle of s crisis and burying his head. Befriend him and offer him support, he may be more honest and give you answers that indicate what his intentions are. He may be ‘spending his bond’ on rent and clear off when he’s spent it. Try and stop that from happening sooner.

If he turns out to be a tit who is arrogant and hell bent on staying then offer him soon Kosovan room mates to share with him. It’s illegal to kick the tenant out but not illegal for others to move in. The local car wash centre is an ideal recruitment place for such people and wold take up the offer, let him know that it could come to that if i doesn’t work with you to a resolve of either leaving the properly ship shape or re-aligning his rent arrears.

    c) Get the guarantors details and send them an invoice for the rent arrears and make it obvious they are now liable. If it’s a joint tenancy the GF who’s left is ‘joint and severally liable’ so should be paying her half until the agreement ceases or you allow her out of the agreement.

    d) forget any recourse from the courts, it’s expensive, weighted in the tenants favour and the end result will be ‘the landlord had the benefit of the rent’…..

    e) serve notice on the tenant at earliest opportunity.

my email’s in profile, email me your number if you need further advice.

Not wanting to scaremonger you but the courts are no quick fix to these situations and they require delicate and devious handling, as soon as he goes to the CAB they’ll advise him to sit tight and await the notice and then claims legal aid to fight it out, you do not want that to happen as he’s in for a long time then.

If you HAVE NOT gained permission off your mortgage provider to rent then your tenancy agreement is technically null and void but that doesn’t mean the tenant has to move out due to him still having squatters rights

We had two of them and a Bassett, the Blenheim one below lived to a very rare 15 years old (in 1st picture) when I had to put him to sleep as his legs had gone. The second one the ruby (all brown) was put to sleep at 12 and within months of the Bleheim as his intestines had collapsed, we lost the bassett at 12 years and again within months of the others. When we were down to one dog we got a show springer who is an excellent dog and when the Ruby died we got a cocker to go with the springer. I think all of them are great dogs to train and excellent with kids, it’s down to how much effort you put into training them more than their breed.

The springer and cocker are way more fun than the KCC’s and are easier to train, the cav’s could never be trusted off the lead and were not as hardy either. Both had heart murmur’s whereas the spaniels are hard as nails and full of bounce.

I was in RAF as a weapons technician in the early 90’s and just about started working on ejector seats when I was pensioned out. There are thousands of reasons why this could have happened and it looks like a rogue booster has fired within the main lift tube which is enough to send the chair and poor pilot out of the cock pit but the rocket propellors which then fire to send it clear and high from the craft have not.

My guess would be it sent the poor pilot high enough to have suffered injuries as he would have still been detached to the chair and not high enough to get any lift out of the parachute.

RIP another hero gone too soon.
