As a law abiding citizen , I hate the police!

I have had several bad experiences with them.

    1. Whilst in the RAF in scotland, I was driving back from the chippy, when I was flashed and so I pulled over. Copper gets out and says “what have I stopped you for?” Me ” Dont know are my brake lights out?” Copper says ” how bout driving without a seatbelt!” Me ” I have had my seatbelt on since before I started my engine” as I point to seatbelt strapped on. Copper says ” well me and my mate both saw you driive off without a seatbelt on”!!!!

Well I did have my belt on from when i drive off, I dont have a deathwish, it just goes to show how corrupt (or f***ing stupid our coppers are). It was a 30 quid fixed penalty with no points, so not worth contesting, as being an innocent guy, I would have lost.

I have a couple more bad experiences with them, that lead me to believe they are a bunch of stupid thick useless ****wits.

    Rant over.

I was there yesterday morning and it was fine. In fact almost perfect on the trails. Off piste stuff looked a little moist however.

I like STW, but I also like all the other (well most) bike mags.

I do however think that there are alot more things that could be covered that arent really touched on anywhere else.

How about articles on normal people. As much as I get inspired by Peaty and Danny Hart, I also like to read about other ‘normal’ people. Articles about how normal people fit biking into their lifes could be interesting. A week in the life of your average british biker who hacks around in his own patch 99 rides out of 100.

And mountain biking does have a wealth of history. There are numerous articles that could be writtain about the past, even just in Britain alone. How about the epic clashes between David Baker and Tim Gould, Tomac, Overend, theres more history than the repack.

The copy of the free BMC subcribers magazine from a few months ago was great, possible the best magazine I have read in years, and it was because it was about real people, and real things, about normal venues. It made a change to articles about pro climbers climbing in Pakistan and making winter Eiger ascents.

More of this in STW please. More than happy to write an article 🙂 I dont charge too much either 🙂

I travel mon to fri every week, all over the UK.

My bike is always in the boot. It can be a hassle in winter when you are getting muddy, but find a side entrance to the hotel ! where the staff wont see you.

I like it from a biking point of view, I get to ride all over UK during the week, then my local patch with mates on a weekend.

Not really any hassle at all tbh

I have a blue pig mk2. I have just come back from 4 hour ride in the peak district with no aches or pains!

I got one for exactly the same reason, I wanted an all dayer/winter/ hacking around in the woods type of slack hardtail. Im very pleased with it.

Fit a dropper and its perfect for downhilling biased xc rides, or all dayers into the mountains.

From my experience the correct and only choice.

Good luck! Being a daddy is the greatest thing in the world. There is no point risking it , your wife, your child and your own life! for somthing that you dont have to do.

Hope it goes well for you.

    Hi,

Happy to give you a guided tour of the best ludlow has to offer at Mortimer and Bringewood forest.

Excellent riding with loads of downhill, singletrack etc. Mud tyres recommended.

My own opinion here, based on my own experience.

If we had of had a home birth my wife would now be dead! She had a massive blood loss ( half the blood in her body). She is only alive now because she was in a recovary room next to the operating theatre when it happened.

    Simple. Dont risk it.

    What a load of boll**ks.

I am an ‘engineer’ I have no engineering degree but engineering training from the RAF, I then went onto become a lead systems engineer at Marconi, and now am a Senior systems engineer in the biggest defence company in the world.

I work with degree qualified chartered Engineers, who are bloody useless. Stright out of uni, to sit at a desk. They order the parts that I tell them to order, I design a system for them, and then they sign it off! They cannot do any ‘engineering’ them selves because they are 24, and from the playstation generation who tbh cant think for themselves. They do not understand even the basics!

Yet, I cant sign a system off because I dont have the right degree!

I’ve had a Genius for 4 years, ridden all over the UK, Im not light (13st) and it has been superb! Ive had to have my front shock serviced 3 times, but the rear shock has been faultless! More than I can say for all my riding buddies, that have all had to have their rear shocks looked fixed/serviced, in the same time period.

My local trail is Bringewood so fair to say it takes a hammering!

I’m looking to buy a new full suss next year, it could well be another Genius!

    Very True Mike_D

I went to every bike shop in the west mids that had a push along, it just so happenend that my local shop (Islabikes) was the only brand that he could touch floor on.

He can count to 20 in french though :). I cant even do that.

    Cool, nice one.

I saw a steppe Shrike only 10 miles from my house last weekend!

I remember your birding posts, 1, because im a secret twitcher, and 2 because i remember they were from near elgin, where i used to live.

In my experience, balance bikes only come in 1 size, I tried a spec, scott and a couple of unkown brands, in the end, only the Islabikes push along allowed him to get his toes on the ground, and that was with the seat post chopped!

I got my lad a balance bike when he was 2 and a half, he is 3 in 3 weeks.

He too is a short arse (shortest in his nursery year group).

When we got it he was on tip toes, he still is ish, but now he can push off on his tiptoes for couple of metres, when we got it, he couldnt even stand over it without it toppling over on top of him, all in 5 months 🙂

    Exactly Ton,

If the guy bought a bike on a whim, and then realised it wasnt for him, then selling it and getting back the cash is num 1 prority.

If its been a big part of his life, then it need serious thought!

Mountain biking made me the person that I am, thats why I never sold my stuff when I got bored of it. Very glad now!

I feel your pain brother 🙂

I felt like that about 5 years ago, ish! I had just bought a new Scott full susser too. I just could not motivate myself. I had discovered rock climbing you see. This was all that I thought about, and all my motivation went into it.

4 years went by and I never touched my Scott, which had only seen about 10 rides. However one day I thought, i wouldnt mind a bike ride today. That was it. In the 4 or 5 years I had been away new trails were around and it had turned into a totally different sport. As soon as I got back on the bike it felt right, and now I cant get enough of it!
I was so glad I didnt sell my scott for climbing gear like I had considered so many times.

The trouble now, is trying to fit in 2 sports and a new young family!

Dont sell the bike, just give it some time! A soul is a bike that will last, and in 3 years time when you pull it out of the shed, it will still be a quality ride. You will be glad you didnt sell it!

Just enjoy what you want to do, everything comes back around and has its place.

I rode 3 laps tonight in the pouring rain. First time i have been for a few years and I though it was bloomin great. So much better than last time I went.

Only a couple of small moans 🙂

I think that the table tops need to be increased in size, to me they dont really serve a purpose. Also the switchback downhill bit was very dissapointing. It has the potential to be a great little section. I noticed that some digging was going on there, Is it going to be worked on?

But aside from my two small grumbles I though it was great. Good work everyone.

I am only visiting the area, but soon i will be down for a few months mon to fri. More than willing to lend a hand with my spade if you do any midweek work.
