Uttings outdoors, have a great range of top makes, heavily reduced. Id recommend hawke, for a good entry level brand. Great optics for the money.

Darts and pool almost make it.

I still wear baggy shorts, do proper trunks make that much difference ?

Both about the same distance, eastridge slightly shorter if i recall, but more technical, so takes longer to do. Hopton is not technical at all, but very flowey, rides really nicely, eastridge is older and more rough and rooty, much steeper, but very very good.

All I can say is when I have a day off work and stay local I try to do both, rather than 2 or 3 laps of one. They are quite different experiences. Whatever you choose, it will be good, enjoy 🙂

I started learning to swim properly in october. When I started I couldnt swim a 25m length. I had lessons and my coach gave me drills to do along the way. I have since seen that they are used in TI. They must have done some good because im now down to doing 400m intervals in 8 min each with relative comfort.

One thing a friend (former county 100m champion and hence good swimmer) told me though, was that I was overgliding, I have corrected this myself, and found it knocked a couple of seconds per length off. I have read that TI can make you an overglider, just something to be aware of.

Have a look at the swimsmooth website, its great.

Id add a loop of eastridge in on the same day, only 20 minutes up the road, but much better imo.

Ill too add that conditions are frozen right now, just back from my local trails in ludlow (5 miles away), its the driest its been since summer, but v frozen ground. Almost perfect 😉

Its brilliant, one killer climb a third of the waY round, but the reward from the top is worth the effort, 🙂 have fun

Pearce cycles ludlow. Always happy to price match ( within reason). Always get my little jobs done for when I ask. Good prices anyway. Always happy to stop and have a chat. The young mechs in there really know their stuff. Well stocked. All you can ask for a good lbs really.

Responsible for all the local trail network pretty much. If it wasnt for them, 80 percent of my local trails would not be here or ridable.

Edit – one of the threads I most enjoyed on here was (I assume a youngster) asking if snowdon was ridable on a 120 full suss! Unbelievable. Yoof these days eh.

I find no difference at all in my speed over the ground/what I can ride, if im riding my full suss over my hardtail. The only difference is with my full suss, if its a longer ride, I come back feeling a little less all over achey.

My mate, rides his road bike to the city of Manchester stadium and back every day fir work, but he is a fitness monster! When I lived in Whaley Bridge, alot of my mates commuted by train to manc every day. Straight through line with no changes, easy peazy 🙂 I worked in the lower middle class suburban blandness that is Poynton 😉

As said above, driving into manc during rush hour from anywhere on the edge of the peaks, is madness.

I’ve lived all over the Uk from Inverness to Portsmouth, and I’d say the best place I’ve lived out of all of them, is Whaley bridge . If you want to have the outdoors on your doorstep I’d find it hard to beat it. Plus a regular train if you want to get into the ghetto for nights out etc.

Do you work in a Sony shop? You seem overly protective of the brand! All I can say is in the last 2 years had a Vaio laptop, which broke after 15 months, and contained a locked bios, which I thought was a bit naff, and a camera which stoped working after about a year and a half.

Sorry DezB, you obviously feel passionate about them, but their kit is crap. If you get a year out of any of their products, you’ve done well!

I’m from ludlow , and know the area fairly well, the only area I’m not too familiar with is the wyre forest. It depends what sort of riding you want. Xc would be malverns, the Mynd and the wyre, for something a little more gravity related, or a bit of a dh oriented xc route, try bringewood and mortimer forest. Would be more than happy to show you around, as I’m in Ludlow. If you fancy something a little further away would recommend hopton and eastridge is excellent.

Yeah its amazing how 2 slightly crappy singers and guitar players can be so good, ( not being sarcastic btw ) and can create an amazing band. The drummer is superb though 🙂

If thats aimed at me its a bit harsh, I agree there are a few quality areas, qe park and rogate being my 2 fav’s. But if someone from pretty much anywhere else in the uk other than east anglia or lincolnshire etc came to this area, they would be dissappointed. I class a quality biking area, as being an area where you can get a quality ride within say 5 miles of your front door, hampshire is not that, and especially gosport area. If you were to base your self in NE hampshire, thing would look alot more promising.

Its all relative, theres lots of riding, but great riding no? No! I have spent 30 weeks a year mon to fri working in portsmouth for the last 10 years. All I say is thank god for the revival in qe park, that is really good fun. Its no dalbeattie or afan, but really good none the less. Try to explore off the marked trails. Rogate is also worth a visit, the locals are v freindly, and theres a nice feeling about the place. I look forward to getting back home to ludlow after my weeks there, it makes me appreciate how good bringewood, hopton, the mynd and all are. If I was going to spend a whole year there, id get a cx bike.

    Cheers all,

One thing I haven’t done yet is introduce faster paced intervals. I think I’ll start tonight.

I have a good coach already, but maybe time to explore a new one further a field. I fancy one of these weekend training / coaching camps with a full time coach.

I use my blue pig for general trail riding. I have a new stumpy, but just love to ride the BP 🙂 if I’m out for a whole day ride , or something really mountainous I rude the stumpy. But for 9 out if 10 of my rides, I use the BP. A typical ride on it is a 2 hr dh biased trail ride around my local trails, which are Bringewood / mortimers forest in Ludlow.

Tails I was like that 5 months ago:) in fact couldnt do 1 length without spluttering and having to stop.

Id love to do a sprint tri, I used to be a county level runner in my early 20’s ( half mara pb of 1.16), but sadly cant run now due to reoccurring injury 🙁

Ride on Friday afternoon and Sunday nights. Swim 4 sessions a week (upto 2 miles total per session).
In the summer that will turn to 3 or 4 rides a week and 2 swim sessions.

Riding fewer times in the crappy winter makes me want it more, I couldn’t ride 4 times a week this time of year in these conditions.

USE shim worked for me, you mayhave to look hard for one though, not an easy to get shim size, but they do make them and they are around. I got mine a year ago from 18 bikes. Used on a reverb.
