Mine has SAM splint, dressings plasters and banadages of varying kinds, artificial airways, pocket resus mask, alcohol wipes, stethoscope, saline pods, paramedic shears and varying other bits of kit to assist with casevac and trauma management.

Oh and the same patient report form used by one of the top mountain rescue teams in the UK

Sunlight is bad as it will damage the skin as it tries to heal as Aviemoron says they should be treated exactly like burns, try hydrocolloid gels or sprays like Burnshiled and keep it covered with a non lint based dressing you could even try some hydrogel dressings.

All of REC’s courses do practical scenarios outside and they help to bring home how tough it is to administer first aid in wildeness situations with limited kit and backup. Remember that the current thinking is that more than 20mins from a landline is remote country as it pushes a casualty potentially out of the ‘Golden hour’

REC have a lot of trainers and we do regularly run a Level1 course here at Llandegla, however I did my Level4 through a company called Wilderness Expertise in Crowthorne near Sandhurst.

I have a Commencal MaxMax currently being fitted with Society fork for the very purpose of mucking around on and going to the shops etc, bars are wide enough to carry home the takeaway on without much wheel rub!

Dirt have followed the whole project and it looks like a top bit of kit tbh. Though I do wonder if we’ll ever see a Millyard production bike?

The official line is that the only access to the forest that is permissive is Offa’s Dyke path, all other bits are private land so out of hours when the centre is shut you are trespassing….

Car park opens at 9, depending on who gets there first. At the mo on a couple of days the gates open a lot earlier due to the RSPB guys having access to go see the Grouse do their mating dance, so we are looking at about 7:30-8am.

Oh and open late on a Weds night, bbq season soon to start.

Got me some plush Vans boots today, and use my 661 p*ss pot lid anyway.
My wife made a good point I always wear a lid on my mtb,atb and skateboard so why not on a snowboard? So as of this morning I started using one.

Cheers guys, have plenty of appropriate clothing from climbing mx etc so that’s no issue. Had thought of boots as a starting point so I’ll go for that. Wanted to learn for a while and it fits well with my mountainboarding.

    Sound advice, thanks.

Ah pap! I thought my life was one big crisis, guess I have even more irrational behaviour to look forward to, last year learnt to mountainboard and skateboard this year am learning to snowboard.
At 35 my parents think I should find something sensible to do and my wife just thinks I’m trying to discover my late teens that I missed out on because I was too busy working and getting plastered while playing with rally cars!

What about a SlopeStyle frame? Something like an Orange Blood, good and strong without being huge weight.

    Not 7stanes, GT or Inners.
Trails were graded after an imba visit, hence why they changed the green to blue. AFAIK that’s why they got that grading and possibly they put black runs at that level because of the huge range of users to the complex, to cover themselves.

Just annoys me sometimes, the lads and lasses up there work hard and people slate it for being something its never claimed to be!

Look they don’t have that much elevation to play with so it will be much more about flow and rythmn. Its built on a bog so there’s not massive granite slabs to ride over. They are a multi use venue with horse access and walking trails, an RSPB site as well as being bisected by the Offa’s Dyke path. Tillhill are a private company and are MUCH more twitchy about liability than the FC so no there won’t be 20ft gap jumps there. Yes at the weekend it gets packed not totally sure but I think something like 20% of the UK population live within two hours of the centre.
Nobody ever said it was GT, and yes the talk is that it can be a laugh there, just chill out a little.
As for the manners thing, I’d say it was nearly gone in mtb circles these days. Gone seems to be the time when riders said they were trying to pass and the kit snobbery is getting way out of hand.
    Anything else?

    *rant over*

Erm yes, the 6pot Hopes on my bike are possibly worth more than my M-reg Nissan. The frame on my Roberts is worth more than it too, in fact my mountainboard is no doubt worth more as well!

    Indeed Higs.

The FDHR crew rode in the winter the vid is (was) on their site.

How about a summer solstace Snowdonia national park multi peak bonanza, like an mtb version of the Grand Slam where you do all the 3000fters in one day?

4 deaths in the last fortnight and an appeal from the authorities for ‘common sense’ to be used by those venturing up the higher peaks – work it out for yourself. Being a member of one of the MRT support groups in the area its been a tough winter for the guys, one of the busiest of recent years.

Why not go over during the summer, summit really early to avoid the cycle curfew then hit Llanberis for some shandies by the lake in the sun.

How weired exactly? I work in Edgeley though live in Chester and could do with possibly sneaking out for a post ride work during the summer months as its too far to make it back for my local evening outing!

Its like Ready, Steady, Cook they get plenty of time before hand to prep and rehearse though the show is shot in one take, as for the vino – did you ever wonder what is in the coffee mugs?

To be fair there have been a few success stories from the show, but the flip side is everyone tries to be a flipping expert then. If people would just admit they don’t like something rather than slate the food I would be happy, but its easier to displace ignorance with bulls**t.

Hmmm, Kate Winslet, met her ages ago in the pub I worked in she’s even hotter in the flesh and a nice person with it not ‘Hollywood’ at all. Though Beckinsale in Underworld- wet and brooding in leather with guns tickes a few boxes too imo.

I’m not being funny but I wish these people would all go away, just because they can cook doesn’t make them a chef. I can appreciate cooking skills, taste etc. but really its not all its cracked up to be.
As for Torode least said the better I reckon, and if the popular media ever got a sniff of what the majority of chefs get up to there would be a storm! Anyone read Kitchen Confidential?

Wonder if they could be persuaded to do a ‘raw’ Alpine160, like Intense do their frames?
