Damn right, some people deserve a kicking like that, he no doubt thought 'skinny cyclist I'll have him' -twunt.
Best addition to mtb commuting armoury are spd shoes with metal toe studs in them, make a right mess of lights/panels and flesh especially if you do like old school rugby and footy players and file them sharp.
Had a similar thing years ago with a cab driver, put a 4ft scrape down his car when he fored me off into some roadworks barriers trying to squeeze past, he got out to chance his arm and when he shoved me it was all the excuse I needed to drop him – smashed his nose and gave him a decent shiner to go with it, don't think he'll ever do it again. Lesson there, I'm an ex rugby player and a chef so am a bit handy when pushed!

Have not long bought a Giant Defy Advanced4 running Shimano 105 with FSA Gossamer chainset and Mavic Aksium Race wheels and love it. Did a 55mile ride yesterday with lots of climbing (Chester, up and around the Clwyds) and feel totally fresh today. IMO, its worth the extra for carbon as it totally eliminates that road buzz that gives you numb bum/hands.

Its fast, spins nicely at 23-25mph on the flat, descends really well is utterly stable when pushing 40mph downhill and is proper all day comfy.

Oh it cost 1500 pounds and weighs 19.85lbs with pump, computer, bottle cage and pedals on a large frame

Hmm, have emailed a police force about bikes being ridden that seem inappropriate to the people that are on them. This was 10days ago, still no reply so it must not be a priority for all forces then.

Live up the road from the Airbus wing plant in Broughton the Vulcan and 380 came over as it was family day there where they get an air display, food, entertainment etc. Not sure wich made was more showstopping as I saw the Vulcan years ago at USAFE Mildenhall going vertical at the runway midpoint.

Does it really make a difference? Watched it anyway knowing the result and to be fair it was possibly the most emotive footage I've seen in a long time!

Next thing will be Zorb balls with bikes inside foe the ultimate trail protection.I occasionally wear shin armour, just always ride with a lid. The majoirty of injuries are busted collarbones/shoulders and facial/head injuries.

Its all about perspective, if its what you're into then all well and good even if its train spotting, have tried quite a few sports over the years but have always wound up doin gthe ones that scare me.

Personally I've never got the whole footy euphoria, and it really annoys me when you tell other men in the workplace you don't like footy they instantly think you're gay, wtf?!

Had 2 rides on my new roadbike, and am thoroughly hooked. Not ridden road for about 20yrs, used to pack in 2-300miles per week in my youth through the summer. The point is that you can go somewhere on a roadbike rather than being tied to doing mostly loops, plus there's the whole mudddy bike and kit thing and you can go for a ride straight off your doorstep unless you are lucky enough to live somewhere like Todmorden!
When your time is streched with work and family commitments I think they are the perfect answer as well as being an excellent training aid. Even Peaty had a roadbike!

Know someone who loves his, but its reckoned that you go a size down from your normal size to get the best from it so if you'd normally ride a 20 then the 18 is best. So maybe the 16 would be a little big, ask them if they've considered a 14?. Handles pretty much like a 4x bike if you really work them they fly, possibly the fastest off the peg trail bike around.

Saw the Lockerbie memorial in Arlington Cemetary along with those of the Kennedy clan and the 'glorious dead', while we there there a military funeral was being conudcted complete with gun carriage, dignitaries and top brass flown in by BlackHawk.

At some point the killing has to stop and possibly the actions of the Scots could be one tiny step to bringing that about. I doubt it somehow as there seem to be too many fundementalists and zealots on both sides of the fence!

Been around some of the vineyards and Chateaux in the Loire and Champagne regions, super interesting especially the visit to Paul Buisse who showed us his private collection that included some Port allegedly from Napoleon's stock!

On my ss I tend to run about 40psi on Conti VertPro's 2.3wide gives a good compromise on grip and no snakebite but run 35psi on my full suss.

There's a whole different can of worms, Israel.

As for state sponsored 'indescretions' we've all been at it both East and West for years with black ops I mean just look at the work the Det did in Ireland, CIA with the Contras and the Taliban, the Russians with the IRA…..

Its an fight that will never be won as its not war in the conventional manner. Think on the lines of Vietnam and Northern Ireland, conventional wisdom of a force on force action does not work hence why moderate taliban are being bought to the negotiating table.

If WMD's being in the hands of unstable governments with dubious human rights records is the issue here (the post about taliban moving into Pakistan) then why have we not invaded North Korea, Iran, India, China and Pakistan?

Problem I have is that I need to take out a baby seat if I carry my bikes inside the car then faff with seats etc. By the time I've done that and taken the bike(s) out of my lockup it adds about an hour to my biking day!

Agreed deft, just goes to show how people cannot read the trail.

As for gradings, all trails are graded to IMBA specs – here http://www.imba.org.uk/WhereToRide/TrailGrades.html
