Mamadirt – If you found a narrower cable then it sounds like you were using a brake cable rather than a gear cable, which would make it extremely stiff!

I love my G9 and it can do funky things too like motion detection which is great for things like lightning and loner biking photos. New it cost me £240 but nowhere has them anymore which is a shame.

Me and my mate went last tuesday and had the van to ourselves for most of the day! There should be plenty of space.

Check out the NS Aireal pedals. They look beautiful, are nice and thin and light weight. I prefer to use thin skate shoes rather than horrible massive 5 10s where you can’t feel the pedal.

A bit more detail. The chalet is located next to the ‘Ridge Hotel’, which about 2 minutes ride from the far side of the big padestrian bridge next to the super Morzine lift. Its nothing specail, but has a secure cave/garage so it should be suitable for bikes. There will be a mix of trail riders and more dh people. I know my way around the area quite well as I’ve been going for the last few years. If we find 2 more people for both weeks (we have 1 double bedroom spare + 1 bunk bed space) then it will be £70 per person per week. We will be living fairly budgetly, so cheap food from the supermarket and lots of cheap beer! Should be a nice chilled out week.

If you are interrested my email is in my profile.

    Cheers
    Chris

Which one has fallen off? Put a full length outer on and don’t use the cable guides, its much better!

Use a compressor … but make sure you have something to catch the piston, I’ve fired one out at crazy speeds before.

I personally like Trevere campsite … fiver a night per tent but it is just a field and 2 toilets. Its just the other side of St Meryn (sp?). No need to book. I hate posh campsites!

Its brilliant for London commuting, but not for hilly areas.

Lock – It actually handled surprising well with such long forks (they are 170mm). It felt very similar to my SC Bullit just without the rear sus. It was perfect for boosting dh jumps and generally messing about. It was so easy to whip and manual.

If you want it done nicely then it takes 2-3 hours to make some nice dropouts, cut off the old ones, remove the paint and weld the new ones on straight, so £75 doesn’t seam too bad. I did mine for free, but they aint too pretty lol.

    GeForceJunky

Yeah if its steel, just find someone with a mig welder and reweld it back on. If you take the paint off the area that needs welding so there is about an inch of clean metal each side of the bit you want welded, then it will only take 2 minutes to weld and you should be able to get it done at any nice decent garage there and then.

I’d do it for free if your in gloucestershire, but my welds aren’t that pretty :-(

Its only when your go across the border on a motorway, like if you went via Geneva they tend to stop and check most cars.

    GeForceJunky

Driving via Pontarlier is the best route. If you want to stay overnight drive untill you want to stop then find a Formula 1 hotel, there are plenty around on the major roads. As mentioned to drive on Swis motorways you need a pass, which they force you to buy if you go over a main motorway border. I think it was 40 euros last year. You could drive via the non motorway but that means driving around the edge of lake Geneva, which trust me, is a nitemare!

It depends on if you like driving, but me and the parents tend to fight over the driving, as it makes the journey less boring, but it means its very easy to do in one go. We normally get a evening ferry then drive through the night with a short in car sleep and arrive around lunch time.

P.S. From past experience the best way to get up the twisty road to Verbier is in a Aireal Atom … beats any biking out there! It was about 20 times quicker than my fully loaded Hillman Imp!

I broke both my wrists at christmas and had 4 months off the bike in total. One wirst broke, the other exploded in various ways and had to be plated and pinned and now doesn’t really bend backwards. I had physio every day for 2 weeks which was a great help, but all I was basically doing was forcing it to bend whilst putting weight on it and building up the muscles by stretching rubber bands and squeezing putty. I have been using a powerball a bit but find it very hard to hold as due to nerve damage, my fingers on one hand didn’t move for a long time and as such, have absoultly no strength im them. Now that I am out riding regually the are both healing really well.

Reminds me of a awesomely funny time in Verbier. I was sat at the top of a lift station talking to a guy, and someone rode past with said seatpost and the guy commented on how cr@p the seatpost was and how the saddle falls off all the time, at which point the bloke sat down and bang, the saddle flew off backwards!

I’d take a spare mech hanger and good wet weather clothes, as sometimes, particually end of june/beginning of july the Alps often have massive thunder storms which can come very suddenly and the temperature goes from nice, to wet, cold and windy before you know it, which isn’t fun when your 3 valleys from your chalet and have to get back. I also love a decent front mudguard in such weather as it keeps the gritty morzine mud out of your eyes.

Other than that just ride your bike as normal and stop when you hear grinding brake pads or smell burning.
