Excuse the road bike, I was collecting it for my dad. It’s retro, but not hugely practical!

The aluminium Rise is currently available for £3300 with 540wHr battery and very useable build on C2W, so £1915 if high rate tax, might be worth a consideration if you want to save some dosh.

It feels like DH is in an odd place at the moment. Nobody is buying them for casual riding as Enduro bikes have got so good, so the only ones being purchased are people racing, who want the best so carbon makes sense.

Loads of dirt cheap Nukeproof Dissent frames were sold recently, maybe keep an eye out. At one point the alloy size S was down to £425 with shock!

Out riding Dursley tonight and it’s drying out quickly, the weeds are growing quickly, but there is still quite a few swamps around!

There was a £1100 (£3500) Kona step through small posted in the PSA thread yesterday.

2x E8000 failed at 2.5 years replaced FoC, although cost £70 each in labour to the local shop to deal with it. On one bike when the replacement motor got to 2 years I sold the bike on for fear of a large bill. Debating what to do with the other one which is nearing 2 years old soon.

I split a DHR EXO+ last year, so trying the same this year but with Cushcore. For DH bike (new build) I went with DD Minion DHFs in MaxxTerra, again with Cushcore. The DH casing is only available in MaxxGrip which wear out very quickly on the back.

It even varies within fork models, I’ve 4 sets of Yari’, three are 180mm mount and one is 160mm. Be aware +20 and +23mm mounts are slightly different, but it’s easy to make a +20 into a +23 using 2×1.5mm washers.

Anker P3i at 1/3rd budget, they really are very good.

I haven’t double checked but I’m pretty sure D711 and D462 are both boost size, so neither are possible to convert to non-boost widths 100 and 135mm. Where are you located? I think I have (new) 2x Superstar 27.5 rims, 15×100 novatec front hub, spokes, but unsure if I have a rear hub in the right size.

We diy’d this other than the plastering, having never built anything before. Watch Ali Dymock’s series of videos on YouTube, he explains things well, but as he points out, there’s a hundreds different ways to do the same thing. Digger hire week was the best week ever!

Shell Rhodina BBZ grease for lubricating seals/air shafts. Any brand 5w30 fully synthetic engine oil for lowers. Proper fork oil for dampers.

Where does the caliper hit the frame, can you use an offset mount like this? (+20mm mount pictured)

Do they have zipped upper pockets as well? Can’t stand zipped lower pockets on MTB shorts, silly place to put anything.

Don’t forget the AR30 is an asymmetric rim, which will make a tiny difference to spoke length.

Yeah what Robola says, PCs are one of the few places where sensible ‘standards’ exist, so why would you support companies like Dell and HP who don’t stick to these standards and make proprietary parts with no advantage to the user.

I thought both CCL and Chilliblast are in administration, so get your refund asap! They are owned by the same parent company.

That video is on Vimeo not YouTube! As a mechanical designer and CNC machinist, I have a lot of respect for Hope as a company, great products.

I’ve got a 6 year old e8000 battery. Apps says 80% health, but in cold weather I’d says it’s more like 50-60% range. My lesser used but almost as old battery is a bit better, but still not like new, so I’d say they age badly. Always stored cool and not fully charged.

Epic hell no from me! £200 maybe at a push for a 6 year old battered frame with no shock.

Other than the utterly awful headset cable routing design that endlessly creaks and motor guard made of brittle cheap plastic, it’s a very good bike. I got a £5k M20 on C2W but then rebuilt it with parts I already had, Yari, 11spd, Hope wheels and brakes, 210mm dropper, size medium (5ft9). The geo took a bit of getting used to, the reach is good stood up but felt very short seated. Bosch is powerful compared to previous E8000, in a way that just encourages fast riding all the time. 750WHr battery feels huge, I’d have gone for 625 if it was available to save weight.

Online gaming does not require much bandwidth, just low latency. My parents live in a village and normally get about 3.5mbps download and 0.5 upload. It’s often painful to stream but they don’t mind as they rarely do that. WiFi video calls are pretty poor and they get very poor phone signal, but they aren’t interested in complaining to try to get a better service. BT too so I bet it costs them an arm and a leg!

Boo, Hope rear wheel order got cancelled. V4 rotors dispatched but nothing on the front hub order yet.

Makita impact driver for screws and rotary hammer (SDS) for drilling masonry are both tools I love and couldn’t be without for DIY. I’d highly recommend upping your budget a bit and investing in the Makita LXT Hl18v range of tools.

Will double check what model numbers they later, but hydraulic, RS505 rings a bell, 11spd, front and rear with mounts, 160mm CL rotors and 27.5x125mm KS internal dropper if required.

Same here, ran 105 levers I think with slx 11-42 via a tanpan. I think I sold the tanpan but do still have the levers and flat mount brakes if you’re interested. Left lever is converted for dropper post though.

What size? I have a new 31.6x125mm post I need to sell. Yes they are currently still dispatching orders.

I’m pretty sure I have a new pair of 32H 27.5″ Raceface ARC40 rims in the loft that I bought for ebike spares but have now switched to 29″, if anyone else needs some rims in the UK.

The NS chromo frame is down to £120, please buy them so I’m not tempted to buy another:

Yeah there doesn’t seem to be much said about the Rush damper online, anyone have any experience how good it is? The Yari @ £134 was a much better starting point if it isn’t a good damper.

Over the last few years I’ve done probably 9 weeks in the Alps on a mix of a modern Merida eEnduro bike with a 180mm air Lyrik and a 2008 Canfield DH bike with a oldish 200mm coil Boxxer, both with the same Splug damper. The modern eBike almost matches the old DH bikes handling, but on the fast, rough brake bumps the Boxxer is a lot less hard work on the arms on long runs. I’d love to try both a coil single crown on an Enduro bike and a modern air Boxxer to work out why. I don’t really bother riding the DH bike in the UK, ebikes are quicker than uplift at a lot of local places. I am currently building a modern DH bike (29″ Nukeproof Dissent) to try this summer, will be an interesting experiment, but planning on keeping the old Boxxer to keep the build cheap.

Racing and travel is expensive, so a half decent DH bike isn’t much in the scheme of things!

There are some great deals around, but £1K is a little short of most of the ‘decent’ options I’ve seen recently, such as 2018 Demo’s. I’d ignore 26″ bikes, decent DH tyres are getting hard to find or are old and hard. I’ve seen some good YT Tues within your budget, but you really need to buy on condition, particularly fork and shock as these are expensive to replace.

Slam69 currently have 15% off everything, which makes some Hope stuff very price competitive. One-Up V2s are £180/210 so cheaper than above. New V3 version sounds good but they seem to be slowly hiking the price at each revision.

Depending on frame and fork, you may be able to fit 27.5″ wheels with smaller tyres. I like Schwalbe Thunderburt rear, with a Racing Ralph on the front.

I had a look at the geo and it looks like typical jump bike; short and steep, not something you’d want to pedal anywhere.

I have 4x hangers and 4x non-driveside dropouts left after I had to make another small batch due to missing one order, happy to split if anyone who didn’t get a matching non-driveside still wants one.
