Is it for road or something rougher?. I’m 1 x 11 on my gravel/roadie/commuter with just a n/w chainring and ultegra (di2) rear mech and haven’t dropped a chain yet. Had a couple of offroad excursions too.

There is a way to increase spring tension on Shimano rear mechs too if need be.

I use a bamboo kebab stick to try and wiggle em loose (saves damaging me carbon bars with a spoke!). Bit of hairspray can help lube it all loose too. Never liked the idea of using oil as can help think it’ll make things a bit too slippery on re-assembly.

If it helps I’ve built the same LB rims on DT disc hubs and they’ve been fine for the last 6 months of commuting (34 miles a day). That is 20 hole using DT Revs too.

Bit more info on the road goatlink here…

Wide Range Road on the Cheap – Lindarets and WTC Team up for the Roadlink

My short cage ultegra di2 mech seems to work on a 32t cassette ok (1×11) so presume maybe the road/goatlink might just make 36t ok.

Another option is a change of cage length, noted that fibre-lyte seem to have a few carbon replacement options.

Aye looking myself at this and theres a few BB30 bb’s out there for threaded BSA frames at the mo, Hope and Raceface (Cinch 30mm) spring to mind but others from Rotor, FSA, Enduro, Tripeak, etc exist.

Have a look on the woolftooth website, think the axle lengths are on there.

Hi Jeffus. I may have a 160mm shaft available if you fancied a swap. Is it 27.5 or 29 your running?

    Cheers

Must admit I’ve been looking closely at the new I-Spec 2 XT 11 Spd shifters and whether they might bolt onto some Formula Matchmaker clamps. Maybe need some slightly reworked spacers but it looks maybe possible. Anyone tried or able to try it?.

Morning Chaps (well good avo now!). I appreciate the comments.

The frame has columbus stamped on the dropouts but not clear what type it is and probably impossible to tell without a label. (Can upload dropout pics later whan I get to a wifi connection!)

In a sense its not really a disappointment to get the feedback, at least we can place it and try and sell it in realistic way. Really I was just trying to help out a friend to make sure he got what the bike was worth. He’s been so careful with it but I probably just got a bit over enthusiastic myself as it was in such a mint condition.

Hmmm maybe off base on the groupset too then. Here’s a pic of the levers…

    Anyone identify them?.

I sort of fondly remember my Alpinestars Chro-mega E-stay which had Campag rims which were top rated at the time…. sadly the thing bucked me and I broke both arms on a steep descent once… never saw eye to eye with it after that!!!

Fair point tho think he won’t be too fussed about the faffage of a split. It was perhaps me thinking its worth more than it is.

Maybe it falls between a proper classic 70’s/80’s bike and a modern machine.

Are we sure, I did see the shifters alone go for £100 on one ebay auction (but then that is ebay).

Anyone know the forecast on the medium mech from bike24?

Also when is CRC due to get sock in the UK?

Also worth a look are aci alpina. Same weight as triple butted supercomps, just a touch more than revs but only about 25p each at cycle basket or sdeals.

28h will be fine, I’ve gone 24h on my road disc lightbicycle build too.

I did on all 6 carbon wheel-builds so far and I’m still alive to type the tale 🙂

Aye I thought that too, loans are pretty cheap at the mo as well.

But yes it does open up options somewhat… Keep em coming. Any psa type bargains welcome?.

    Er steed… trusty steed!!!

Aye there is so much choice out there, think that’s the problem. Spose he’s done well to get it down to three…. and without the STW massive too!!

Good shout, that’s the sort of thing, 0% finance too and a bit of legend as well. Presume the 650b version does justice to the reputation?.

Good work Mboy, review welcomed here I’ve been wondering about this little monkey and how it’d ride. Keep dropping into this and noticed the harsh cowd too.

Have you ridden any other VPP 29ers as a comparison?.

If any good I have a couple of 31.6 carbon posts for sale at a good price if your in the market.

A Jamis with woven carbon finsh at 350mm in length for £30 or

3T Dorico with UD finish and red logo’s at 180 grams (with ti bolt) 280mm in length (RRP £99) for £50.

Let me know if any good.

…oh and they’re about 1cm extra long in the top tube too so the fit is good for us tall uns (without having to get all gate like) I went for a large with a 57cm TT and I’m 6ft 2in if it helps.

Have a look at the Jamie Renegade. There’s a steel version due soon. Very good value, very relaxed and stable, clearance for 40mm tyres, detachable stealth rack/guard mounts and just got glowing reports on road.cc to boot

Oh and yes I’ve got one too 🙂

Intense Spider Comp ain’t too rough and if you happen to fit those at crc you’d still have £1340 to spend on pikes, new xt group, wheels, etc.

Even better if you join British cycling you’d get another 10% off and have enough back for a reverb:)

Love mine, its snappy enough to be xc like in short travel mode and it’ll tackle plenty of rocks in long travel mode with those big wheels and pikes fitted.

Hmmm glad it’s not just me then. Yes, haha I usually hack out the old barb too.

I think maybe 99p for the avid olives’ (thanks grammer police) might be the best I can do. Although superstar seem to offer 4 olives’ & barbs’ for £4.99 which isn’t too bad…. If you need barbs’ too.

Googling about I’m sure I saw on another forum someone with a bag of 100 though by a company called connect maybe!

    Typical eh.

Not in a massive rush, as long as my sole stays attached. I’ll do some shopping around though just need on-one or merlins to get hold of em and do a special price:)

Otherwise maybe go to the Germans unless something else catches my eye. Thanks again Soma.

Cheers again Soma, your a gent. They certainly sound up to the job then. I quite like they’re quirky looks, somehow seem a good mtb-road crossover to me.

I’ll put them on the shortlist. Just gotta find them at a good price now. Were you a 44 in the m162’s BTW?

    Gee76
    Free Member

Ah cheers Soma, I was hoping the sole was a bit softer than it looked. I tend to not walk very far in bike shoes but if I have to get off I like a softer grippier rubber to the hard plastic of some more xc type shoes.

I’d probably be using mine for summer mtb riding and also for use on my gravel/disc commuter so may be similar to you. Is the sole still relatively stiff can you tell?. I’m a bit torn between one pair of shoes for commuting and mtb use or two pairs but I’m not sure how much of an improvement I might notice with road specific shoes. Running M162’s at the mo which fel fairly stiff but they’re falling to bits a bit now :o(

    Gee76

Have they turned up yet Soma?, these quite caught my eye too.

I’d be rather interested in some feedback. I’m a size 42-43 normally (44 in Shimano tho), re they as slim as purported and is the sole any grippier than it looks?

Nice simple 3 cross as I’ve done for my MTB builds previously. 285mm j-bend black aerolites and ally nips for me fair weather riding.

Need to check my erd tonight but may squeeze in a prelim lace up ofthe rear to make sure all fits OK. Fingers crossed.

Hmmm bit early to say but Jury appears to be still out on this.

I run 28 (revs) on both my DT240/Light Bike 35mm Wide carbon builds for my Am/Trail bikes and that seems fine so….

I’ve plumped for 24 (Aerolites) on my DT240/Light Bike 35mm Deep (20mm wide) carbon builds for road and cx use.

Would maybe have gone 20 hole on the front but the matching DT Swiss Disc Hubs are hard to come by as yet. I think a good chunk of the strength is required to carry braking forces tho and not just resist the knocks so fairly happy with 24 hole…. well we’ll see when I get em built…. got all the bits bar front hub.

As an alternative I have some unused
DT Swiss R23’s in white for sale for just a few quid more. They weigh 1450g a set and run on dt240 hubs with aerolite spokes. RRP is £550.

    Ooo I could do with a 29er 130mm shaft. I have 150mm at the mo I’d swap:)

    Gee76
    Free Member

I’m not sure if that’s true for some of the older 240s qr hubs as they couldn’t be converted to 15mm as the bearings didn’t have a big enough holey in them.

It is annoying that they still haven’t updated the manuals to incl the 15mm hub. I tended to refer to the DT 350 manual for guidance on 15mm parts. Not defo sure the bearings are the same tho.

I blame the roadies for nicking our hub width standards and ousting us…. The blighters;)

I’ll probably eventually just suck it up at the next changeover as with all these things that are foisted on us. Ho-hum!!

what frame’s it for out of interest?

    Gee76

I’ve been deliberating the same but edging towards some of the newer adventure type bikes. Seems to be pitched as the endurance versions of cx bikes. Of course they all include discs too.

Like out and out road race bikes, CX bike strike me as being a bit more harsh, nose down and twitchy. Fine for a 1 hr muddy blast but perhaps not quite so forgiving maybe for longer rides.

Depends on what riding you might be doing but the Norco Search, GT Grades, etc might be a good shout!!
