Cheers Boxfish, be interested to see how they go on and a wee review would be nice… can they really “feel” stiffer yet more compliant (I hope so!). Good luck.

Currently thinking of 240s hubs too but want to try and keep it below 1500g. Hopefully Revs and Ally Nips will help. Noticed a lot of Factory Carbon rims use lower spoke counts so there may be some extra rim stiffness to give scope to lose more weight there.

Light bicycle presumably?, did you go for the wide ones. I think they look about right balance of weight v strength. Be good to see how your build weighs in and looks:-)

Thinking stiff rims mean I could get away with revs. What have you gone for?

Have you ordered boxfish? looking to do the same but not sure what the hit will be from customs. Was it the usual 25%?

Hey rickon, nice bike your mulling over there;-) thought you were a bit quiet. Don’t worry about standover, vortex at about 5ft nowt can stand clear of top tube. It sounds like you right on the line for top tube length and it may well come down to riding style.

In some respects the good standover means for playing you can fit short stem and drop the seat but then for longer xc rides a slightly longer stem will give you the option to stretch out a little more. I went for a 70mm as an allround compromise. you could go with a nice 60mm turbine as a compromise.

As I say your welcome to swing a leg over it if your in the area.out

Raceface and Obviously SRAM do them but not cheap. TA Specialities also do em. As do a couple of US based firms tho they’re more racey versions.

e13 and Renthal both do unramped rings too!

Ya can also go down the Marcus Helores or Home Brewed Components route too, if you have time to wait for them to be made. They can do custom sizes too:o)

Yeah twas a great day out wasn’t it. Weather was kind too. The annual trip out on the dh minions coulda been messy in the ae mud otherwise;-)

Video looks great too tho its amazing how that road gap looks a tad flatter on film. Felt a good bit higher while hanging in the air and waiting to see if I landed on Tom!, sorry again Tom!. Twas a bit of a cheeky overtake that one.

Think i’m about 12.5st ish [no kit or camelback] and running about the same maybe 170psi. Still experimenting but feels about right.

I run 0 pro pedal when its off, 2012 kashima rp23 is 3[full] when on!. Tis very pert n pedals well in middle ring. Not quite as pert in granny!.

Did run a bit softer when new, 30% maybe, and was very plush on the downs!.

Asked similar q today of a well known uk service agent and reply was not to go against manufacturer spec. The cost of a retune to spec plus the shock makes it a pricey proposition in the end.

Might just have a large ltd edition crc blue tracer for sale. Various build budget options too if you prefer a full bike?.

See pinkbike review for mention of the (hollowed out) ally sections…

    http://www.pinkbike.com/news/yeti-asr5-carbon-test-2011.html

    … mind your eyes tho.

The stw massive might be able to reassure you its ok (depending on what you believe).

For assurance I guess it is back to Yeti (or silverfish) with some pics for their comment.

Yup ally stiffening yokes are used if you read some of the review blurb on t’interweb. Reasuringly they mention the main design priority was stiffness over lightweight. Hopefully that means a bit more strength too!

Sounds familiar, me too, entered code which showed the deduction then the system rejected all my (desperate)payment attempts and i was told to call. Then they explained. I was that close!.

Still very tempted but not riding loads at the mo so hanging off a bit. Maybe do another year on the tracer as got it in a sweet spot for now.

Tis very hard to justify the price of some frames of recent. TRc for instance. The 5 just about hits the mark. Tis just a mare when CRC go halving the price of such things tho. Makes me wanna wait in a way…

But then the 5c just looks sooooo….. Mmmmmmmm.

    Arghhhhhhhhh

I’m in exactly the same dilema. Old bike is only a couple of years old but fancied something more xc/trail oriented as thats where my riding is going these days. Still love me current Tracer too but very tempted…
Had a 10% rutland voucher which swung it for me, just, but sadly it was not honoured so back on the fence again!. Did you check rutland would honour yours dickie?.

I was just wondering about the very thing on the carbon. Also wondering if my ccdb will fit too. Eye to eye and stroke are right but not sure if spring may clash with frame somehow. Then of course there is the question of how much it improves things of course.

2012 rp23 gets good write ups and only noticed a couple of retailers actively quoting it as fitted.

Out of interest who was offering the discount?

Couldn’t see owt meself either. MoCo DNA seems to feature across the whole range from RL upto the Worldcups. Seems to feature dual flow rebound and compression like blackbox too. No more blackbox Revs it appears for now.

It is all a bit low key this year but I read the RS mediabook and was convinced enough to go for some 2012 RLT’s and they ride as well as if not better than my 2011 RLT Ti’s with Blackbox.

I think the Revs have all been aligned in terms of damping and as you go up the range you just get greater levels of adjustment/lockout/remote lockout etc (and of course carbon crown/steerers). Which if like me your not fussed about makes the RL’s and RLT’s great value.
The sectors seem to now have the slightly older/cheaper but perfectly fine damping and hence fill the more budget end of the 150mm travel fork market.

Doooo it, you know it makes sense… tho you may laugh at me on mine on Sunday now all me fitness has gone 😉

I’d say go for 32 and if ya unsure leave the granny ring for emergency manual change in very dire cases and ditch the mech and shifter.

Chat 2mw and will sort ofr Sunday 🙂

Oooo such a tease…. Anyone tried or seen a write up of these with a CCDB (Cane Creek Double Barrel)?

Also with regards to forks I am aware that the limit is 140mm with an external headset. I have also read the pinkbike review (bike fitted with a 150mm WC Rev and external headset).
However with a parallel steerer 1 & 1/8″ fork and a flush lower headset cup you could in theory fit a 150mm without changing the geometry and thus handling (over a 140mm set-up). However could this overload the headtube, anyone tried it?

6, 2″ here as well. Tempted by a tracer 2, but really doesn’t give me a whole lot more for the money… Unless by the sound of it on mtbr you need more metal.

Mine is currently just over 27lbs with revs, ccdb, crest hoops, etc will drop a bit more yet into the upper 26lbs bracket but then again may bunk that back up with a dropper post. Nice versatile stead really, many happy mies for me.

Cheers Mr P, be keen to see how the MKs come up.

Be nice if some of the protection versions of conti tyres do some with a UST bead, maybe the 4 ply sidewalls are a bit less porous too.

As an update on the RQ, I set it on its side (albeit in the bike bag so not perfectly flat) over a coupla nights since last ride, blown upto 40psi for some of the time too.
Tonights Ride up at farleton knott (near lakes) went ok ish. Ran the tyres prob at about 35 psi (assuming a bit of overnight loss of pressure) and all seemed ok…. Until I touched the tyre to put the wheel on, then first hiss. Although it did seal in a few seconds.

Some rocky riding ensued and noticed the tyres hissed a bit. However the extra pressure meant at least I finished the ride without having to do any pumping. They prob around 20psi now tho.

Anyway blown em up to 40 psi and put em perfectly flat this time to let the sidewalls wet a bit more… the trial goes on…

Further Update…. 3 hr ride this am up Rivi. Things started ok with a good 2 hrs riding n no problems. However afer a bit of buffeting on a couple of rocky descents it was hiss city again.

Looks like a few days rest on either side is due for my front wheel to let this stans set a bit better. Doh!!!. The quest continues…..

BC version seems pretty good to me, low on wear and high on grip. I only use mine on the fron tho (SB8 on rear at mo now summer has dropped by for the month!).

I also found sidewalls holey as heck tho so lots of patience is req’d for tubeless (see my RQ woes thread!!).

Not tried the std version but yeah Black Chilli is expensive. May temp me back to try the Mountain King 2’s in BC tho (which is surprising as the last cheap old MK I had blew of the rim with a split in the bead of a bout 3″). Especially if they hold air better then the RQ’s.

The inflating part isn’t too bad really, plus I have compressor to get em going. Done the laying on the side thing overnight but may try just leaving em like that for a bit longer to build up the layer of dried on stans on the sidewalls.

As said they just seem very porous, maybe I got a super porous one. Fingers n toes crossed, gonna go give em another go in a few mins if me hand is healed a bit!.

wow nice pics, sure was a great day out today, really enjoyed it. Views were fantastic and it was good to have me own photographer there. Beer tasted all the better somehow too.
Sure rain will resume soon n lakes will be back to normal before long tho.

Well today was pretty perfect for riding, we ended up doing the borrowdale bash. Plenty of rock in places which has previously slashed my nobby nics. The good news was it was sunny and my ngear jumpstop worked a treat. The bad… I ended up with helmet vent pattern suntan, got a fat wrist fallin on the same climb i fell on first time i did this route, see bog trotters web site for pic of my 1st fall, oh and my tyre went down again. It seemed to seal very well but any sidewall buffetting and it started to hiss. I am hopeful a bit more patience may see it settle down but may even drop continental a mail as it startin to cost an arm n leg in stans fluid and mini pump wear, not to mention lost friends. At this rate there will no probs stoppin to put down me seatpost for me so no chance justifying a reverb.

hi there, running sb8’s on the rear with crests at the mo no probs. Just degreased, scrubed and lightly abraided my front rq tonight for trip to lakes on sat’d so will report back. Put a bit of extra stans latex in too which has helped em seal better so far. Fingers crossed.

Ahh I see, I had the old ones until it decided to part company with the bead and even Moab slickrock seemed to give it a bit of trouble in the grip department (relative to friend MAxis and Hutchinson tyres)which is saying something!!!.

Mister P how do the Mtn Kin 2’s come up in a 2.2 width, similar to Rubber Queens maybe? or narrower like a high roller, nobby nic?

Cool, will keep trying as i like the rq a fair bit and it seems to be lasting well. Wanted to run one on my hardtail too so fingers cossed.

Shame the mk’s might not b as good. I presume it is the new mk2 bc?
Maybe they should do lighter 2.0 or 2.1 rq, it’d prob come up at 2.3 in any other tyre. Although sb8 is woking out ok on the back at the mo to be fair.

Wow lots of replies, thanks for the tips and sorry for not responding so quick. Went out for a good blast up Rivi after work last night with the weather being so good.

The RQ’s are non UST (UST is far too heavy for me!) and as I feared the hissing continued last night requiring a couple of top ups. I seem to be getting paranoid and can even hear hissing even when I’m not on the bike!!.

The mould wax/silicone suggestions seem to make sense as the tyre does have a slightly slippy/waxy touch to it. Plus sometimes I’m sure that as I pick up and rotate the wheel & tyre it dislodges some sealant and opens up a hole as if the sealant is barely sticking. Will give it a clean up and top up again and see how she goes.

Hope it works as it is a good front tyre for me, (weight and grip wise)makes me wonder if the new Mountain King BC’s would be any good too. Although I have read they come up a lot smaller then RQ’s.

Wahey the pics look brill Dave, great first ride for the year, views were spectacular and the weather was brill too.

Knees slightly sore today, no bike cleaning for me as it was such a clean ride really, (after mincing round puddles!!!), done a modicum of diy instead!!. Sure bike will be fine for Rivvy this week.

Hope you sorted your fork conundrum, you got me looking at bloomin stems now!!!

Hohum…. weekends really do seem to have gotten too short lately!!!

PCD is the same as std on mine mate so can use any rings on the 970’s but you will need some washers/spacers to get chainline right if you don’t use xtr rings (which have some sort of built in offset!)

Granny Ring, what spring do you have at the moment?, I may be interested. Looking for a 400-450lb (put on a bit over crimbo!!) x 2.25″ stroke if you maight wanna sell it?

    Gee76

i’m looking at the same dilema at the mo. Just a ring change required to get desired range for 970s. Think i’m settled on a 32 tho maybe a 30 would help on steep climbs and still work for all reasons geetee said. Mapping out the ratios you’ll see that u only loose the 22 x 30 and 22 x 32 of a conventional set up either way.
Didn’t bother with a guide on 1 x 9 setup tho chain retention seemed to b an issue with an older drivetrain. May look into a Lg this time however.

ah that was kinda what i was hoping with the wildcards as for some reason the large ones are nearly 10 squid less. Weird, surely there is more material in em… Weird!

ta delusional, looks like i’m at the mercy of the chain reaction sizeist pricing policy then:(
