Clean undies, you wouldn’t want to end up in hospital in a dirty set!

That was it, we just referred to it as “the artificial”

Easier than the ones at Venosc end but a bit cheeky right at the top – which is when & where he lost it.

As you say end of the day was a nightmare when everybody was piling down to resort.

Now about the bottle of potcheen I found in the bottom of the freezer at Mikes bar when doing the end of season clean 🙂

Oh LDA, those front slopes were quite steep. Was skiing there with a couple of guys (one became the editor of a well known MTB mag) & the other one fell about 5m from the top of the artificial slope. He made it all the way down – about 1km on his face, skiis left well behind.
We had to give him lots and lots of beer to stop him shaking as he thought he was going to die while heading for a small clump of trees in the middle of the slope.

I took the kids to La Clusaz, very small, not masses of runs but nice and easy in resort, a couple of restaurants and not intimidating in any way (oh & the TDF goes over the brow fairly often)

There was one by McMoonter (of this parish) about his ride across the states that I enjoyed.

I have an 07 plate 140TDi estate with PSD and electric switch handbrakey thing.

I do get warning lights come up about the handbrake but ignore them and they go away… it appears they come up occasionally when you have the auto handbrake on and press the handbrake on button when you have your foot on the brake.

If I remember not to self apply the handbrake, which has been ingrained, then its fine.

I did have the drivers seat electrics fail but was done under warrantee that was due to the wires rubbing on the runners and then shorting when the insulation had worn through

One of my riding mates has a lab that comes out with us regularly, he who started at about a year old, to start with I was a bit nervous he would run into one of the riders but never has and he has been out for a couple of years now.

You did need to be a bit careful about distance though, if you go too far he will knacker himself completely rather than stop

All that modern skis have done has made it easier for avergae skiers to carve turns, as the ski does most of the work for you. Older skis required you to drive the ski a bit more and think about it.

Certainly agree with this bit, took me ages to learn to carve properly with old skiis, now everybody can do it… Oh well back to good I used to be 🙂

Back to OP; Benz you may not die on old skiis but you probably will if you wear ski clothing of the same era

Somewhere around I have pics of me in the late 80’s wearing a mid blue, puffy all in one with clouds on it, the misses had the same in a lime green…
Mind you I also have pics of me in the 70’s skiing in kagoul top and waterproof over trousers

Claim to fame, I started skiing in ’71 (aged 6) in the Lebanon, bet not many have skiied there

    Mine were like these

Completely straight if you looked down the edges, no cut at all. They were fast though

bazzer, then time moves on, the waistline grows and it becomes very irritating that what would have been easy you now have to think about or put some effort in 🙁

But my stories of what I did 15 years ago get WAY BETTER 🙂

rkk01 – 204 k2’s – did you have MSL’s as well? … damn I loved those skiis and used them when I was doing a season.

I threw them out a few years ago when I stopped going skiing so often but looking back on them I should have kept them & showed the kids what I used to ski on

Alistair Humphries new book is now on my kindle, all for £2.18. Looks like a good read from the first few pages which you can see on amazon

I am not sure about this

I may also get a kindle/ereader at some point, i’m not discounting them – but not until they release the new one that does more than just books.

The thing about the kindle is that it does 1 thing really well, it can get email & it can be used as a browser but its pretty rubbish, however if you want to read words it is excellent. It seems to me that with most gadgets the more they do the less good they are for the original purpose.

I am very interested into what happens over th next few years with digital books though, it will be possible to add music to them when necessary, interactive pictures and videos etc, reading a MTBmagazine means you will be able to watch a tutorial/video as a page. That will be very different to what we now have as books.

The only way I can think to improve the kindle I have is the new smaller more cut down one because its smaller so even easier to carry.

I’m a convert to ebooks. I have always been a massive reader and there are many benefits, it is easier to hold than large/heavy books, obviously many more books with you and not cluttering up the house and some of the books I have found on amazon are excellent and if you look carefully not expensive.
There are many self published books that are well worth a look too, I have read Kok and Tvatt and 3 Bent Links both from threads on here, I have also really enjoyed “you have gone to far this time sir” and “the hungry cyclist” neither that I would have found at my local book shop, I may have on amazon.

There is still a place for paperbooks though, those with good pictures etc and coffee table type books would not work on a kindle. As mentioned above mine does not go into the bathroom with me either nor probably a beach so its always useful to have a paperback for those occasions

    I did like this comment

My local newsagent still does a roaring traflde in jazz mags, despite the Invention of the Internet. 36 different publications on last count. There’s nothing quite like holding the real thing, plus you can’t store a PC in the bushes.

These is nothing like holding the real thing, don’t buy a jazz mag, get a girlfriend/boyfriend 🙂

I do, a bit, mainly down to wanting to write a website a few years ago to see if I could and because a number of like minded mates do trips and it was a way of advising them of changes and putting photos up.

It has moved on from there, I don’t bother writing the website now and moved over to wordpress, I suspect my content gets monotonous and has in jokes but once we have done a ride or trip some of the people who joined us seem to enjoy the comments so I keep doing it.

I had the same dilema last Thursday, I am now the happy owner of an HTC… I figured that if the O2 site showed the galaxy y at £89.99 & the HTC at £199.99 then I may as well go for the expensive one – as it was a free upgrade anyway 🙂

My first smart phone so I do not know what I am talking about but I like it

In theory they should be able to listen to old recordings and with modern technology work out if he had traction control on

But is is worth it? Who came second that year and will re-writing the history books make a big difference?

I have always thought Schumacher crossed the line (Damon Hill, Jaques Villenuve etc) but I think in this case let sleeping dogs lie.

    In Jos’s case… sour grapes

I have a mk1 joystick & love it, for a while I was wondering about getting a diablo but Troutie did the upgrade on my hope visions so right now I use those on my helmet, I do have a hankering to update the joystick though, it is so convenient and no extra battery packs etc so am watching this thread with interest & definately plan on getting the joystick upgraded

I had that though, turned 40, bought an acoustic and started guitar lessons… 3 years later by then owning a strat as well and a huge amp. I gave up, never anytime and my ability wasn’t what I had hoped it would be (2 little kids didn’t help either)

By all means go for it but don’t spend too much on kit just in case…

Good luck, hope you do better than I did 🙂
