Dave, say what you can to the commitee :-), I am sure the vast majority of users follow whats there rather than build new bits – perhaps something could be put in the MTB press to stop the craze of Northshoring / jump building

There appears to be a distinction (so far) between bridges which appear to be left to jumps, drops and dangerous things which have been removed.

Re the whizzy bangy things last Tuesday night we got stopped by a lnadrover full of squaddies who asked if we had seen a rocket pack because they had mislaid one

I ride the land around Aldershot a lot, its certainly true that more and more “improvements” had been made to the trails and about 6 months ago all jumps and drops were removed over the space of a couple of days.

Having said that there are ample tracks around and some built by The Army Cycling Union – ie the Brass Monkey course at the weekend where existing bridges were upgraded and added to with other trails cut.

I have never been questioned while riding up there but know they do stop trials riders. So far it seems to be a case of be polite don’t take the pi55 and all carries on harmoniously – I hope that continues

Kind of missed the boat (or helicopter) on this one but going back a page I think that full sized helicopters did not fly inverted due to the rigidity of the blades, turn upside down and cut your tail off problems. I guess updated materials means this is not (always) the case now.

Am loving some of the detailed models 🙂

I had a ride around before the race and ambled round with the kids during the race.

Took some pics, nothing great but if you happen to be on one & want a copy drop me an email & I will send an original – I would have taken more but like an idiot forgot the charge the camera ….doh!

Cpt W.E.Johns too as per aP, I remembered a book “The Boy Biggles” from when I was a kid & got it for my kids, they love it – tigers, leopards, black panthers, crocs and boys with guns walking around in jungles – can’t go wrong 🙂

I did it in 1996 linky here the bike was a raleigh equinox – a race bike, my mate had a tourer. I really found my bike horrible with panniers on, the geometry didn’t really work with the dead weight – my mates Dawes appeared almost unaffected in feel.
Gearing I used a 42:52 on the front and MTB rear cassette (a 34 the biggest cogI think but its a long time ago) and was ok with most stuff, the bit I remember being really hard was the Cornish Coast – I could just about climb a 1:6 but no steeper.

If I was to do it again (& I plan to) I would go with something like the Thorn Audax ^^^^ up there.

In your shoes I would go with the road bike but lift the handlebars as high as you can, I suffered most with sore shoulders, and change the rear cassette – then don’t espect to pedal every single meter but 99.9% will be better

I wonder if MB is still DC’s manager?

Interesting, I was hoping for Crofty, can Brundle step into the role of main commentator and leave DC as the expert?

Buy them in resort, the people there will have much more experience & you can often try them for a day first

I wondered that too, there must come a point where somebody pulls a gun & fires… how far away from that were they? Must have been a few close protection guys praying it didnt go any further I think.

TSY – with you now 🙂

Torminalis – I heard that Diana Dors story too but heard she lived in Priddy, no wonder the barmaid I was explaining it to at a pub in Priddy looked at me oddly

TSY I wasnt in the consulting room at the time but the mother in law doesn’t stike me as somebody who lies, even God wouldn’t question her…. so come on, why do you think it may be, I am keen to know

Scouts, assistant scout leader, I got asked and figured if I wouldn’t do it why should anybody else. My kids are too young but are working their way through Beavers and Cubs so will be in the group soon.

Special skills? nope but I am generally practical and like outdoor stuff so happy to pass on what I can. I did take them for their cycling badge, its scary how many cannot ride a bike aged 10-14ish, 5 miles and only one broken bone 😕

I’m not sure I enjoy it all the time, often it frustrates me but occasionally I think I have managed to pass something on.

If nothing else it does give my mates something to tease me about 🙂

The best I heard was a friend of a friend who got left 10 miles from home with a bike with no saddle and no clothes except a sock at about 2.00am.

A police car stopped him, when he told them about his plight they said very good sir, have a good night & drove off 🙂

Second best was a couple of guys spent all night under the bed on the wedding night not saying anything until the groom asked the bride what she wanted for breakfast & two voices piped up asking for a full english. I understand the bride was mighty pissed off 🙂

I havent tried one of those. I did try an airbrush in a can from a pc shop.

Don’t do it! I caused blemishes across the mirror and a send back to Canon …so be a bit careful with what you try.
