We managed not to come last in the team event (again) but are getting closer.

I find it staggering how fast the quick riders are, I appreciate being unfit & doing it for a laugh I am always going to be slow on the uphills and flats but being local and used to the course would be ok on the techie bits – generally speaking that was the case but then every so often one of the top riders would come flying past no matter where I was on the course.

Speaking as somebody from the rear end of the field I would like to say a huge thank you, of course to the organisers – the course was as good as it could be and the organisation was great, but also to all the other riders, where possible I moved over when I heard somebody behind me and certainly when they asked to pass & every time I got a thank you or a positive comment; it is really appreciated .

Thanks to all for a great event

Was up there last night 80% of the lap is great. The other 20% was a mix of slippery, puddles & in 2 or 3 cases mud that was about 10-15cms deep and 10m long. I was on Rocket Rons & for some of it sliding about but am staying with them.

The course has had a fair amount of work & spongebob is brilliant also the turn off the tarmac road (just after SB)as been covered so the off camber roots are not an issue. Drainage channels have been cut where possible which have helped a fair bit.

The course is in good condition & the people building it have done a great job. Just watch out on your first lap there are a couple of bits where it goes from fairly hard to quite soft quite quickly and can catch you out [if you are as rubbish as me :-)]

    Really looking forwards to it

Yet another lurker, just got back from a few days off and read this – glad I in the office on my own at the mo!
As everybody else has said, brilliant news. Words are not adequate but well done on both counts best wishes for the future.

Rode it yesterday am, a bit muddy & the roots slippery, spongebob was a revelation though, I tend not to bother with it normally but thought I had better do a complete lap – well done to the trail pixies, much, much better.

Looking forwards to trying not to come last in the team event – for the 4th year running – shame is our associated team aren’t in this year & they were always slower than us, so we will be one step closer to the bottom.

Hope its as much fun as the last couple of years

Oh yeh, on an onone- not the 29er though, it has rigid forks & is ok for everything except the narrow ditch between two trees immediately after the bombhole at about 7 miles, so the scandal it is

on its way to RAF Odiham according to the website. Will be leaving at some point this afternoon so I will be running out of the office at regular intervals just in case.

Wish I had my camera here

Oh yes, that’s what made me run outside, it didn’t sound like the normal cessna’s we get from Blackbush

Highlights on BBC 3 at 19.00, which I guess will have to do.

Like Flashy I am Plastic Taff, born in Cardiff but everything else about me is English, have always supported Wales first then England second, although I always expect England to do better come WC time. Looking forwards to seeing Tuilagi getting a run out and seeing how he performs on the international stage.

I would love to see Wales or England win the WC but at some point NZ have got to stop chocking and with the team they have perhaps this is the year.

A mate was saying the other day (while listening to the horrible noise coming from my front brake) that on motorbikes chamfering the leading edge of the brake pad can deal with it – was going to try it this evening.

Pouring down outside so may not get chance to see if it has worked until Saturday though

Stuck in the office at the mo, but sun is shining and a ride is planned this evening (Gorrick 12:12 course at Minley) followed by a pub stop 🙂

    Can’t wait

I’m going to agree with Binners again, there is a possibility that before long all sports will disappear, as each one becomes the popular one they will charge more & then fall off the cliff.

The upside is that there will be more soap operas & reality tv programs as they are cheaper to produce, so I will be able to get away without watching tv & will have more time to do other stuff.

I am not sure I could get into watching local sports on tv, I think it is necessary to have people or teams to follow over a period of time to get long term fans, anyway if they were local I would prefer to stand in a field and watch them

AR5E & AR5E again, have been a fan for as many years as I have been able to follow it, probably 35 years, my kids are too. ITV and the ads was a pain, this season & this commentary team (even Eddie to some extend) have been at least as good as any & now I am stuffed.

Can I go to the Grand Prix? Nope massively expensive, do I want sky sports? Not really I watch too much tv anyway and don’t want the temptation of all the extra stuff to get hooked on. If its pay to view on top of normal sky sports then it is certainly a no.

I don’t blame the Beeb, the cost is huge, I do blame the greed of the F1 machine, Bernie is hugely rich, his companies make massive money, will they make more with less viewers paying more? They seem to think so, personally I would prefer making smaller amounts off more.

Whinge over, back to listening to Ant & Crofty on the web

spent time on one on hols & hated it – how do you keep the damn sheets tucked in, every morning I woke up nearly being strangled by the bottom sheet – the foam giving pulled the sheet out every night – is there an answer or do you all sew your sheets together under the mattress?

Thor did say, in one of his interviews at the beginning of the Tour, that he realised he could not beat Cav so had been concentrating on climbing – hopefully that is the answer. Until proven otherwise I chose to believe it.

Oh note that Geraint has been signed up for another 3 years by Sky – I imagine they needed to get that deal done pretty fast 🙂

Exciting to watch yesterday, really hope Voekler and Thor are clean, I do wonder how come Bertie appears in significantly better condition after a rest day (again) though.

Never been a Cadel fan but am starting to hope he finishes ahead of Shlecks & Contador after yesterday though.

Look at the BBQ thread – stoner may need some bits for a BBQ

That was class, a mate of mine was one of the victims and now has his frame back.
It appears the thieving scroats nicked the bikes, stripped all the bits off and flogged them, but kept the frames – they will be the bits with the identifying numbers on, so excellent evidence

Have you tried to network plug’s, I can’t remember the name I’m afraid, but I use a BT homehub, then plug an ethernet cable into an adapter that uses the house electrical circuit as a network, then just plug another one where you need it.

Mine work on spurs, extension leads and everything – sorry for the rubbish description, brain not working well this am

    I was there 🙂

Got very wet just before the start but soon dried out, cracking atmosphere a good number of overtakes in front of us – the old start finish straight. Difficult to follow even with the big screens in front of us, need to watch the highlights now to see all of what happened

Its not the same now; my parents lived there and as we flew in to visit them the wall was like all lit up, almost no lights outside it and well lit inside, very other worldly, as were the gunflashes from the tanks training just the other side of the wall and the guard towers and dags.

Went back a couple of years ago and went to the Checkpoint Charlie museum and it felt very odd coming from the “wrong” side.

I can recommend taking a boat trip round the canals is a good way to see bits you would normally miss.
