If you only get the noise when using this particular tap, it most likely needs servicing or repair. If it is a washer type tap, knocking can happen when the washer becomes detached from the jumper or the jumper itself is loose in both cases the water will cause vibration in the tap as it passes through the water ways.
It’s an easy job to check. Isolate the water supply. Hopefully there’s a ball-o-fix valve under the basin. Remove the tap handle and possibly cover. (this could be one and the same.) Then remove the tap head or cartridge. Examine and repair as needed.
Assemble in reverse order.

Fixed the leak, unfortunately the splines for the tap lever were slightly undersized so the lever would sometimes overshoot when the tap was used!

If your boiler is condensing, The Wickes Ace HE 102, it does not have a diverter valve. It may be the DHW flow sensor or thermistor. Have you tried to see if the central heating side is working? If it has the same fault when in heating demand, it will be something else, possibly the flame sensor, air switch, fan or??. There’s quite a difference between a plumber and a heating engineer. Some can do both, some can not. Be mindful of this.

3/4 tap reviver from screwfix will do.

Only so you don’t embarrass ourself, ask the supplier for tap washers as opposed to gaskets. Also, when you say you want to pry out the odd looking thingy/washer. What exactly are you on about? Have you already unscrewed the brass cartridge from the tap body(Chrome bit)?
If you have a gravity fed system turning off the cold water main will not stop the hot water from running and if it’s piped correctly, that should be the hot water tap you’re working on… I dunno, you don’t sound like you’re the man for the job to be honest.

The difference will be in quality of the steel and longevity of the cutting edges. Infrequent use, unless you’re a shop, would probably mean the cheaper ones will suffice for quite some time.

Honestly,

Some people breath once every 20 seconds or so and have 5-6 ltr lung capacity, others breath one every 5 seconds or so and have a 2-3 ltr lung capacity. Then there are those that don’t breath at all. They’re dead!
I’m an average bloke in every way and a lifelong medicated asthma sufferer but, I can blow FEVI off the scale. I don’t think this proves much at all other than I’m good at breathing out.
Unless you are ill or find your lack of lung capacity debilitating, concentrate on learning to breath properly and perform breathing exercises daily. In addition, take the advice of your doctor. Short time inhaler use, to see if it helps, will not be detrimental so why worry about it? If you hadn’t been for a health MOT would this have been an issue for you?
