If you’re worried about air quality, stay away from any dense housing as the NO2 from modern boilers is a big problem.
    Load of ballcocks.
The combustion of natural gas releases very small amounts of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, virtually no ash or particulate matter, and lower levels of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and other reactive hydrocarbons.
The main by products of complete combustion of natural gas are, water vapour and carbon dioxide. The same stuff that comes out of you when you’re spouting rubbish as a mater of fact.

I recommend “Big Boy” if you haven’t heard him read this one, it’s pretty darn funny. No doubt many will relate.

The problem I think with both is that I seen pretty much straight away what was going on, I don’t know how people didn’t, I maybe I don’t get fooled by the way they try to lead you away. Maybe it’s the way my brain works that I can see the clues too easily. I then sit though hours of watching it all play out as I expected but with no entertainment as I’ve got nothing to make my brain work.
I was gonna watch it but I knew Drac was going to watch it. My brain works that way. I also could tell from the clues my brain got, he wouldn’t like and therefore it would be boring and have no entertainment value. Cus as you all know, they always include all the give always and clues to the end in the plot and If you are clever and your brain works that way, you’d figure it out too.

Well. They were either all to scared to admit, or to bored to respond.
    Never heard of it myself.

Have you considered asking someone who might actually be able to help you?
That’s where I think I’d start. Or are you seriously looking for an answer here?

I somewhat disagree. As a plumber and having been in situations where I have been asked to do something I knew could be problematic, I advised my customer and in every case, once informed, they agreed to adjust their plan to accommodate my recommendations. Besides, I would have planned your job based on the existing soil pipe arrangement and included anti syphon traps or modification to the set up to prevent this problem.
Better to resolve the issue before it’s even brought up.
I DO think it’s your plumbers problem.

That’s not a pressure gauge, it’s exactly what it says…. A bypass. Leave it alone and wait for your plumber.

Edit: Wait, what? there’s no water in the header tank? The ball valve has stuck up?
It’s sucking air perhaps. Yes, you need someone to look for you.
Incidentally, the pump should have an over run on it if the boiler is new/ish. This keeps it running for up to 10 mins or so after you switch the heating off. If it is constantly running the system is not wired correctly or there is a fault on one of the components.

Based on your description, an air admittance valve on the shower waste pipe work is your simplest and best solution. This is a design error on your plumbers part and quite common amidst other faults unfortunately. It’s not a simple mistake, it’s a glaring oversight and partly why plumbers in general are so unilaterally mistrusted and disliked. It really p—es me off.

If you have an open vented system. You would have 2 expansion tanks. One for your hot water cylinder and the other for the heating. They should not be combined in nearly all circumstances. There are exceptions to that which would complicate things further so I won’t bore you with complex musings. The fact you say there is a pressure gauge on the pipe work in the airing cupboard would indicate you have either a pressurised hot water cylinder, or a pressurised heating system.
Your lack of understanding of what you have, makes a request for diagnosis nearly impossible. There simply isn’t enough information provided.
My advice is to call someone who understands how systems work, and the difference between them. A heating engineer would be a good place to start as you have rightly suggested.

Wet system connected to rads doesn’t work. For starters the water temp is too high and underfloor heating

It’s perfectly OK to combine rads and UFH on the same system. The UF, if installed correctly, will have a separate manifold, pump, controls and blending valve. The temperature of the water in the rads will obviously be higher than that in the UF system.
However, if you read the OP’s question. You will see that his slab is already in place. liquid UFH is not an option for him. Unless he wants to dig it all up?

It’s great. Based on the the fact you have no gas or oil, it sounds like your best option. Be sure that if you’re fitting it under tile, you follow the manufacturers instructions to the letter.

Is carbon monoxide the issue or something else?

Having a gas appliance in the same environment as a fan has to be considered very carefully and also meet strict regulations regarding the installation.
So yes, in short, it could be one issue.

Worcs Bosch 30i Perfect for your 2 bed 1 bath home. Best value for money and British made.
There are many other boilers out there. Some about the same money as the Worcs Bosch but neither better or worse and many others a lot cheaper which I would avoid like the plague.

You haven’t said if your boiler is balanced flue. If it is, it’s room sealed and venting from the loft is a non issue. If it’s an open vented boiler, it’s a definite no no.
You need to know the answer to this and also that your boiler is in good condition and properly serviced. Modern boilers are nearly always negative pressure cases which helps even in the event of a bad seal but, I wouldn’t assume anything. If you’re unsure consult a gas registered plumber for advice.

Anecdotally, I recently had my eyes tested at Tesco and the prescription has changed slightly. As I have a virtually (2yrs) new pair of Oakley riding glasses with corrective lenses, (from Tesco) I asked how much to buy one new pair and put new lenses in the Oakley frames. £410 was the answer.
If I chose to have two new pairs. One being the exact same frames I’d like to re-glaze. The cost will be £320
Now does that make sense to you? It sure doesn’t to me.
Anywho. If your lenses are single vision there should be no problem. Anything else, you definitely need to go into the shop for fitting.

Maybe this is naive, but don’t you have his site prior to the changes backed up? Return the site to what it was before you made those changes.
His site is still running minus what he doesn’t want to pay for. Don’t make any further updates and let the contract lapse when it ends.
I personally only give one chance in business. Difficulty in getting payment is stressful and time consuming. If it’s happened once, it won’t happen again as far as I’m concerned.
You’ve got enough to worry about without that in the back of your mind in future dealings.

Was the extension built over existing drainage? For example, was there a man hole cover that was built over?
As you have a suspended floor (from your description) It seems most likely to me that something was either built over and not sealed properly. Building over man holes isn’t necessarily a problem as long the the cover is an airtight one. Or, there is a broken or disjointed pipe somewhere.
It does not take much of a leak to allow sewer gasses to seep into living spaces.
Also, you need to check where the vent stack for the system is located. Unfortunately, for you, you need an expert to figure out what’s been done and how best to resolve.
edit: The rat problem may or may not be related.

A shared water main can be a problem because, often the stop tap in the street is rarely used. If your neighbours inside stop tap didn’t function when the plumber came to do work, the easiest option is for him to isolate properties feed by this main in the street. When reinstating the supply. It’s possible he either hasn’t opened the tap all the way or accumulated debris (lime scale or other impurities) lodged in the stop tap have made their way into your supply.
I would first make sure the main isolator is fully open and if so, isolate in the street again and begin working my way back, starting with your stop tap.
Incidentally, the pressure in your boiler (you say 1.4 bar) has absolutely nothing to do with your cold main. I’m sure someone can explain this to you if you need to understand. It’s not relevant in this instance though.
Bear in mind. It’s quite possibly not your neighbours or their plumbers fault. It could just have easily been a reverse situation had you needed plumbing work first.
Lets hope he’s a decent plumber and willing to help you out.

It’s contrary to Water Regulations or Bylaws (depends where you live) unless you have a double check valve fitted

Don’t think you need worry about this. It applies to incoming main and permanent outside tap installations. Temp hook up to your sink or bathroom taps will be fine.
Anyway, last time I looked, the “Double check valve police” were woefully underfunded.

    Glad’s it’s getting toward a conclusion Alpin albeit a **** expensive one.

I used to smoke a lot, the weed was easy. I just gave it up one day and similarly to you, felt no different. £15 a week better off perhaps.

I’m struck by the lack understanding and the, me, me, me, mentality of users and recovering/recovered users in this thread.
It’s worth considering how encouraging reduction in use can have benefits for the wider community in that it reduces the amount of antisocial types and behaviour which often accompanies those that provide illegal substances.

As photography is art, (yes, even journalists consider themselves artists) and art is purely subjective. A discussion regarding what is good and what is not, is completely pointless. Unless you think you’re going to change someone’s mind? Personally, why bother. I know what art is and don’t care if the rest of you disagree. 😉

I have a DSLR and a reasonable lense. I can’t help but think that a decent book on composition and a half day taking a lot of images would give equally good results.

I though we only had plumbers on here, apparently there’s a load of professional photographers as well. What a talented bunch.

If this person is doing something you disagree with so much, you’re contemplating saying something that could potentially terminate the relationship. Are you sure they’re a friend and not just an acquaintance?
I think the art of true friendship is to accept someone along with all their foibles regardless. Barring pedo’s, perve’s and murderers of course.

Yes, Isla does have good business sense. I think she is a bit of a hippie at heart though and this is, I believe, a genuine effort to move towards more sustainable manufacturing. I think it’s about having a good business and at the same time feeling good about what she’s doing while moving in a positive direction.
I hope it works out for her.

The fact they stop you looking at stars does seam a bit precious IMO.

Probably the same attitude the person that approved the installation had.
If you spend good money to move somewhere because you like the environment and it’s suddenly changed for the negative, I’d say you have every right to be upset. Getting the lights moved could prove difficult though, unless they are casting light directly into your property and it’s affecting your comfort in the home. Light pollution in the UK is something the majority of us have to live with.
No doubt others were glad for the added security the lights may offer. Their concerns matter too.
