    No.

. Possibly a wet system is easier as I could tap into the towel rails connections?

    And, no.

ufh pipe down in series with the radiator, so controlled by the? trv on the radiator.

    You aren’t listening.
I refer you back to Blazin-saddles post. The floor area of your bathroom is small enough that running costs don’t warrant the additional installation costs of doing wet UFH “properly.”
Also, leaving it on low permanently during the cold months is much more cost effective than switching it on and off all the time.
My advice is get some advice, but for Gods sake, don’t get it from sl200o’s plumber.

Cannondale bikes are made for leftys hence the 1.5″ steer tube design. In my opinion, of which I’m sure to be lambasted, you should fit a lefty and be done with it. Servicing these days isn’t much different in cost from other high end forks and if you carry out the routine maintenance as recommended, a lefy will perform excellently for a good long while.
This will present the additional cost of a front wheel or wheel build onto a left hub. Well worth it in my humble opinion.

wheat not even suitable for bio fuel

Tastes ok, is cheap and I’m very sure not against any legislation so your problem is?
It tastes like like cheap, to me. Is that all right with you? That I don’t like something. You of course can eat what ever you want.
Saving money is not always worth compromising for me, is my point. Where does the legislation bit come from? I don’t see I made any implication there is any wrong doing.

I sold my 2005 Saab estate for scrap when it became unrepairable(I’d had it nearly 3 years after buying it for £1500) and bought a 2004 Volvo V40 estate with 156000 miles. (Paid £1450) It’s now run flawlessly for a year and passed it’s MOT with one minor advisory. If it broke tomorrow I’d try to get it fixed. If repair was cost ineffective, I would still feel I’ve had my moneys worth. It’s a 1.9 diesel.

Any store that uses wheat not even suitable for bio fuel to make their baked goods, is no place to buy a tool worth a damn. Apart from the flowers and vegie isle, nowt worth spending my precious moneys on in there.

I’m so offended that so many are offended…

Does the offer of a free microwaveable wheat bag still stand? I ate too much last night and have a mild stomach ache as a result.

Sorry funkmasterp, I need it myself now.

Just a though. If you’re looking for perfect English, perhaps this isn’t the best venue. After all, it’s an informal social site for entertainment. The usage guidelines don’t have a correctness content clause as far as I’m aware.

Surely pretty much everyone knew he was gay and equally didn’t care.

Apparently, it’s not possible to say you don’t care. That offends people. So in short, everyone cares even when they say they don’t and that makes those who proclaim their lack of caring bad people.
Only those that don’t mention they don’t care truly don’t’ care. For they alone are the righteous. 🙄

I love that an innocuous and light hearted comment about a person announcing something which was common knowledge can be construed as having a hurtful design. Or better that there’s an agenda to upset all the delicates who woft around here looking for something to call offensive or gain an opportunity to point out how perfect their view of all things is.
    Get over yourselves.
While wer’re on the subject of self-righteousness, Couger, what in the world is your comment supposed to mean? And, is your name a reference to your sexuality or are you actually a Couger?
funkmasterp, Do you have a point? This is an open forum with visitors from all over the world, Some will use English in ways which may not meet with your narrow view of correctness. Send me your address and I’ll post a wheat bag you can warm in the microwave and clutch to your tummy while you weep.
EDIT: Just read the above comment. So brilliantly put..

but noisy as hell during night thru winter when it regularly went thru what i assumed? were it’s anti freeze cycles?.

Most newer combi’s have two features which result in short operations even when not receiving a call for heat.
    These comprise of:
    1. Pump actuation after a manufacturers set period (time varies, usually around 12 hours) To prevent pump from seizing due to non use.
    2. Pump and burner operation to maintain heat in the heat exchanger. This assists in quicker delivery of hot water and much more frequent than the former.
The latter of the two can usually be turned off by setting the ECO mode to ON.
These features vary by boiler manufacturer but I’m guessing your was doing one or both during the night.

I appreciate some folk on here would not fit anything other than Worcester Bosch etc but they are probably the same sort who will only buy their food from Waitrose.

Nothing like a sweeping statement to back up your ignorance.
I read your previous post and don’t disagree. I didn’t say I would pay £2000 nor that was an exact figure, it’s a guideline. Price could vary quite a lot depending on boiler type and job location etc, etc. Normally I would expect to provide quotes for this type of job ranging from 1500 to 2500. There are many variables.
Based on the fact it’s not an outlandish figure and he has a history with the plumber, it sounds reasonable to me. All I said.

Point being, without knowing how big your house is and how many rads/bathrooms you have/need, it’s hard to give an objective opinion.

In this situation that’s not really true. Because it’s a straight swap, Combi for Combi. The main difference being the new one will be condensing. The two items which may differ would be:
    (a) Where the condensate is discharged to.
    (b) Whether the gas supply is sufficient for the new boiler.
These things considered, a ballpark figure of £2000 is likely not unrealistic.

You are not breaking any laws buying or installing a non condensing boiler, so it is not illegal in any way.

However, you’re unlikley to be able to get BC approval, as they mandate condensing boilers for most domestic installations; although there are exceptions.

Not that anyone would notice, nor care if you chose to buy and install a non condensing boiler, which are readily available to buy.

There’s always one smart arse aint there. So here you are.
There are exceptions in extreme circumstances which may warrant the installation of a non condensing boiler. However, this requires full explanation and documentation to BC. So far I have not come across a situation where it would not be possible to fit one.

What the new condensing boiler regulations say

In simple terms the new regulations state that:

All gas-fired boilers fitted after the 1st April 2005 have to be condensing boilers. This applies to all brand new installations and those that are a boiler replacement.
All oil-fired boilers fitted after the 1st April 2007 have to be condensing boilers and again this applies to new installations and replacement boilers.
All condensing boilers fitted after the 1st April 2005 have to have a SEDBUK efficiency rating of either A or B.

There are a number of other new regulations in addition to these three, however, these are the main ones that need to be followed.
Additional information on new condensing boilers

All new gas-fired and oil-fired boilers have to be condensing boilers and once installed they need to be issued with the Approved Document L1 of the Building Regulations.

It is the responsibility of the homeowner to ensure their boiler and heating system complies with the building regulations and so it is vital that all gas boilers are installed by a Gas Safe registered technician and all oil-fired boilers by an OFTEC registered installer.

The certificate that is issued will be needed should anything go wrong or should the house be sold in later years.

Finally it is also the homeowner’s responsibility to inform the local authority that a new or replacement boiler has been fitted in a particular house.

There are a number of new condensing boiler regulations that need to be followed when fitting a new or replacement boiler to your home. A Gas Safe or OFTEC registered installer will be able to explain the regulations and supply you with the certificate you now need by law – whether it is a certificate of compliance or a certificate of exemption.

Regarding your question about costing. It seems a reasonable price to me. You said yourself he’s done work for you before and you trust him. Why the sudden lapse in confidence?

    gears_suck

How reliable are condensing boilers anyway vs traditional combi? Combi’s are really very simple but condensing seems like more to go wrong.

Irrelevant, as you can not legally purchase or fit non condensing gas boilers. conventional or otherwise. Conventional being, heat only, open vented which is completely different from a combi. Condensing or otherwise.

By the way, you can make chocolate Ready Brek by adding a bit of cocoa powder to the regular stuff.

I’m guessing you mean hot chocolate powder because cocoa powder is super bitter. Unless that’s your thing? I like sweet myself.

Part of the enjoyment of being outside for me is hearing the world I’m part of live, loud and clear.
It’s personal I know but, I’ve never understood the desire to get out in it and then try to shut it out with earphones.
I guess for commuting, it’s slightly different but, when I come up on runners out in the country side and have to literally shout to alert my presence, I think, why not buy a treadmill and stay at home. There’s so much to enjoy about the sounds around us.

It’s not possible to answer your question definitively without knowing how your system is plumbed and wired. There are many variables and as you have admitted and shown by your misunderstanding of how UFH works, your knowledge is limited. Therefore, it’s quite possible there are components to your system you are unaware of or don’t recognise correctly.
However, If both pumps are running when rads and water are off and UFH is on. Check that there is no heat into the rads, check that the cylinder coil is not circulating and if this is the case, It’s most likely designed to operate as is.

All this seems a bit amateurish. Drill hole, fit correct size plastic plug. Fit correct sized screw. Hang Blind.
If you have crumbly brickwork or hollow areas. You need to re-think your blind choice or hanging method. Some are able to be hung from the back, onto window frame, it really pays to have some experience and /or a clue.
Also remember that the more holes you bang into a lintel, the less integrity it has. Particularly if you’re planning on drilling though to next week.
Frame fixing screws are designed for fixing laterally though the frame to prevent forward or backward movement. They are not load bearing fixings.
    Edit:

Gripfill is good with rawl plugs into dodgy bricks. Squirt some in, push in the plug, let it semi dry then fit the screw

If you are drilling into the underside of a window reveal, there should not be any “Bricks,” The nature of a lintel is that it is in one piece and spans the opening for which it’s providing support.

is it not 1/2″ if so you can just buy a lockshield valve to fit.

No it isn’t and did you read the above comments? There’s a link to the same lockshield he already has which he can do a straight swap with.

if the valve has gone like that id be looking at swapping the rad. I wouldn’t be surprised if the thing ws corroded and the tails stuck in, you might damage the rad removing it.

That makes no sense. At all.

in this instance buy all the bits you need x2 and take the rest back the next day.

And this is complete madness in any scenario.

    gears_suck

    You could just buy this.
    lockshield

Change the valve, leaving the radiator alone. Whatever you do do (ha) I just said do do. Use some jointing paste on the olive on the copper and on the flange of the lock shield.

As dual US UK citizen, I have recently realized, neither is of much benefit at at the moment. However, I can vote on both sides of the Atlantic while residing in the UK. Perhaps there is a glimmer of hope.
You win some, you loose some and then try to support the majority until you have a chance again but, I’ve never felt so completely unrepresented before. It’s a real eye opener.
