I know someone who was invoked in a. RTC. Not at fault. Thought he’d be the nice guy and let it go as no serious damage or injury. Gratitudes were exchanged and a warm handshake.
The following week a claim arrived for damages to the vehicle!
People can be arseholes mate. I hope you read the situation correctly.

Oldnick. If you’re starting to get migraines after a ride, I’d get checked out. 1 in 4 people have congenital heart defects which have been found to be a contributing factor to migraines. I discovered I have a hole between the upper chambers of my heart when I suffered a TIA after mountain mayhem this year. Apparently, they can close the hole and often this will have a positive effect on the headaches as well as reducing the risk of further strokes.
Interestingly, although I’ve had this from birth, I only very recently started to experience exercise related headaches. I’ve had migraines for most of my adult life though and always thought them to be stress related. I think there can be more that one trigger in a lot of cases because chocolate or alcohol can also cause an onset for me. Bummer!

A company I worked for years back called us all in for a bollocking meeting where we were told if we’d get the job done quicker we’d get a bonus. My buddy turned to me and said. “Did he just tell us he’d give us a bonus, or that he was going to bone us?”
Turned out to be the latter.

(To be fair, what else are you meant to do? The trains won’t take bikes and diverting to the Kincardine Bridge adds about 30 miles to the trip)

    “Trains.” What trains?

Curious comments regarding people being “bothered” while out riding. My phone often rings while I’m on the trail. I just ignore it!
It’s there for me to use if I need to and if my wife needs me, she has a specific ring tone and doesn’t “bother” me unless it’s an absolute necessity.
I can’t see how using strata or any other form of ride recording is inconvenient or difficult if you want it.
I’m not advocating either preference, just saying. If you’ve got an argument for or against something, at least formulate it with some believable logic.

I was out on a night ride with my buds iin NW Arkansas and we startled one that was chilling just off the trail. I didn’t know till then that they can jump (pretty high) when frightened. He got up to my friends shoulder height as he passed. Quite alarming
Because, yes. They are crazy mother *******s

Takisawa2 it’s common/good practice to seal the edges of cuts for inset sinks and hobs. Most fitters use silicone to do this because it helps to prevent spills from soaking into core material. I’ve not seen varnish used but I suppose it’ll do a similar job!

No different than any other formica worktop….

Can you clarify your comment please because standard work tops have a rolled edge which wraps underneath the surface and square edge finishes flush with the bottom edge. At least howdens do. That’s not the same as far as I can see. And that is the point on the work top I’m concerned with. Drips that aren’t wiped away could potentially wick into the chipboard between it and the Formica face.? Drips on a standard rolled edge will sit there until dry if not wiped away.

Your rant at the lack of political correctness directed towards septics is somewhat tarnished by using the term ‘retarded’ to describe the scout. If you’ve going to do PC, you’ve got to stay on message.

Using a word in context to describe a person of obvious limited mental development is not politically incorrect. It’s an accurate description.

The blatant prejudice and juvenile name calling directed at Americans on this forum is astonishing. Do you think calling all Americans. “Yanks, rednecks, or the like.” Is any less offensive to the vast majority of US citizens than calling someone from Brum a cockney or from Shropshire a farmer would be. I think it’s worse than that. It’s akin to calling a Pakistani a word I won’t write down.
The ignorance of one retarded scout master does not reflect on the entire US populations beliefs regarding the preservation of their open spaces and national park lands.

Having worked in a dealership in the US and had first hand experience of what a shite job car sales is. I would be reluctant to advise someone to do that. It’s hard enough without people wasting your time test driving a car they are never going to buy from you.

Paulwf. What were the costs involved in those repairs? To those who’ve mentioned corrosion issues. The body is in remarkably good (original) condition. No rust present surprisingly.

Interesting. Good comments so far. I had heard that quality was suspect from around this era. This one I’m looking at does have all the service history up to 150000 miles?

Errrr. Yea TR keep yer pants on there little fella. I wasn’t saying it was right. Merely pointing out that even the correct sized cable overheat if the terminals aren’t pinched up tight enough. It’s as much the installation as the materials. Both have to be right..

    gears_suck
    Free Member

TR that could well be due to a loose terminal which will cause overheating regardless of correct or incorrectly sized cabling.

Yeah, I don’t know how we’ve all lived this long before all the regs and HSE got involved. Every 9.5 kW shower ever fitted on 6mm cable should have burned and killed everyone within a ten block radius.

Yep. Me too. 43 when I started. My advice is get out there while you’re young. Better skill development now will reduce injuries later. It was hard learning I’m my 40’s as you don’t bounce or heal as we’ll or quickly respectively. On the subject of the bike. Get what you like the look of with the best speck you can afford.

I had the 920 it was ok. I used an app (can’t remember the name) which recorded a ride/run… Whatever and then when saved it would send the data directly to strava. No info available on the fly but worked great to record my rides.
I found the os was glitchy and apps would frequently freeze. Also the phone would reset itself quite often when switching between apps and sometimes during using and app. It wasn’t the best operating system I’ve used. After trying all sorts of phones. Apple, Google, Nokia etc I found that Samsung was better than anything else and the android os is versatile and more stable than any of the others.

It depends what you’re asking for. I get calls from people who want a quote to fit a bathroom. They go have a look round B and Q, find a suite for £200-£250 and then want you to come fit it. It’s not till you get there they inform you that they want the loo on the opposite wall, a low profile shower tray, a towel rail instead of a rad, tiled floor and walls tiled floor to ceiling etc etc.
They you come back a few days or a week later with your price of about 6 and a half grand and they think you’re taking the piss.
I’m not suggesting for a minute you’re one of those people and It’s a bad idea to prej-udge your potential customers, but I know of fitters that do.
Having said all that, I always try to contact people who call me. Even if it’s to tell them I can’t do the work.
As blazin saddles said, I ts a super busy time of year and a lot of guys are already booked solid. I don’t have any available time in my diary until Chritmas and most people don’t want you ripping out their bathroom at that time so everyone is trying to get stuff done before then. I’d say you’ve left it a bit late in the year TBH

So basically you don’t feel confident enough to trust that the builder is not trying to rip you off? Why else would you ask a question that can’t possibly be answered with the amount of detail you’ve given? It’s like asking. “How much does a car cost?”

Grin and pay it. It’s a luxury item. If you can’t afford it, give it up.

It must be a nuisance for teachers to go over work that has been missed by kids sat all smug and suntanned.

The rules have been clarified to stop folks taking the mick. They are the same for all. Suck it up.

And people like this wonder why ordinary people like me get a chip on their shoulder.
My daughter is 7. We took her out of school 2 weeks early at summer break because we can only afford to see our family in the states every 4-5 years. To travel during peak times is out of reach for us. She gets to experience travelling to another continent and exposure to a completely different culture. At 7 years of age I feel this is probably of as much benefit to her educationally as the lost time in class.
Are you saying that because I’m not as affluent (or is it effluent) as you, I should deny my wife and child the chance to keep their family bond?

Came up behind a girl on the towpath t’other day who had a wondering dog on a long lead. Called out several times to no response. Finally realized she had earphones in. When I came along side her and past the dog (carefully) she about shat herself. I just don’t get it. Why come outside into our lovely countryside and then create a barrier between you and it?

rims lasted for years of muddy ridding too. But disks are a whole league better.

All I can say about that is either you never applied them or it wasn’t ridden enough.

No simple answer. Every situation demands a different action. No way are both parties (bikes and cars) ever going to completely mesh on this. Every now and again you get both who are clued and it goes smoothly. More often there will be someone on here griping because things went as they normally do.
