Whatever your first quote is. Halve it and then take a grand off. You’ll be closer to the cost you’ll be able to achieve.
Stick with established companies. Many of the smaller firms come and go very often and your guarantee will be worthless. It’ll be likely you will need them back to tweak a few things so you need to know they’ll still be around.
I know the Safestyle adds are bloody annoying but they will keep dropping the price if you hold out and the product is good. Also they respond well if you have issues.
Alternatively, you could just pay out the nose and get Everest.

In my extensive toaster experience and consequent frustration. I can categorically state that no domestic toaster is worth a damn. You may beg to differ I’m sure, but in that instance I can state that your tastes and requirements are not as exacting as mine.
Having failed miserably to obtain one which will do the job consistently for less than stupid money, I recommend the grill. You just can’t beat the even crispyness that an overhead element can provide.
I let the toast cool slightly and apply lashings of slightly salted butter.
    Tadaa.

The US has a double jeopardy rule. You can not be tried for the same crime twice. I think it will be a long process if she is ever actually extradited. She has an awful lot of public support and sending her back would be a very unpopular move.

My mates and I at about age 13 found that JB’s cub in Dudley would have their deliveries on a Sunday. Not unusual you may think but, there was never anyone there on Sunday. The supplier used to load up the outside loo with their coming weeks supplies of beer, larger, cider and pop. Again, perfectly normal I suppose apart from the fact there was no lock on the door!
The temptation was too much. We got completely frazzled one afternoon and in our half pint stupor, went back for more, only to be confronted by a geezer who’d been watching us from the Pathfinder building overlooking JB’s.
We were given a proper telling off and instructed to return our spoils and make haste.
Without doubt there would nowadays be a police involvement.
However, in spite of the fact the practice to deliver unsecured amounts of booze on Sunday continued, we never again attempted to nick any.
We pilfered my mates dads cellar in Abberley House instead.

One of the scientists named in the article is called Reich.

He’s got two older brothers I believe..

That’s good mate but, if we have to explain it, it won’t be funny. 😆

Stumpy_m4. Yep my thoughts too. Sounds like they’re not on properly. Never heard of one sticking open before.

Certainly the pg13 classification for the remake is troubling. Clarence’s use of profanity in every possible situation in the original was what made the dialog so entertaining and in a weird way more believable.
    On another note…
What about the remake of Total Recall? Personally, I hated it. I’d have preferred, and possibly even liked it a tiny bit if they’d called it something like Déjà Vu. It was borderline insulting due to the fact they tried to act in it. Come on. Don’t try to upstage Arnie. It’s a fight you’ll lose.

I thought the original was shit, (i left the cinema) and i expect the remake to be shit so i’ll not bother with it but in true stw fashion i feel like i have to post and comment on something i have no intention of viewing.

Hey. You saw some of the first one and you didn’t like it. There’s no reason to subject yourself needlessly to the remake. We all have different likes and dislikes. Fair comment.

I’m not expecting anyone to match Kurtwood Smiths performance. He made the movie for me. I’ll just take the new one for what it is and try to enjoy it as a stand alone movie. At least, if it’s engaging, it’ll enable the comparisons to wait until later.

ross980. Yea,that’s cool. I understand completely. Don’t forget! In order for your warranty to be valid. You have to maintain the correct service intervals.
There’s no argument that the price is good. It’s not really that much more than traditional controls. @ £160
And… You get to fiddle with a new gadget to your hearts content. Man heaven. Lol

We’ve only been in the house a few months. The previous boiler broke about 2 weeks before we exchanged contracts so the vendor stumped up for a brand new one. I guess they spent as little as possible (and who can blame them?).

Whoever installed the new boiler has a legal obligation to complete the benchmark certificate in the manual after commissioning the boiler. Part of the benchmark certificate requires them to confirm that a boiler interlock, system controls (programmer and room stat) are fitted.
These guidelines/requirements are to help ensure the installation operates as efficiently as possible. Carbon footprint and all that jazz.
On your post though. Personally, I find it hard to believe that in most domestic situations, the Hive system will generate much savings at all. Unless your family has a completely random schedule, I don’t see the benefit over a programmable timer and room stat
It’s a money maker for British gas because, as far as I can tell, you can’t purchase Hive without having them install it. They then have all your information and the opportunity to try and milk you for every other service they provide. It’s a win win for them.
I wouldn’t want their monkeys anywhere near my heating system TBH.

Mtb gear components are purpose made and quite different from road group sets. Also break off hangers were conceived as a frame saving measure for off road bikes. There’s a lot goes into the design. I think it’s flippant to suggest they aren’t purpose built.
There’s no way to protect a mechanical component indefinitely from the off road environment. Unless of course you keep it nicely lubed and polished and in the shed.

Why do you have a new boiler without a room stat? Building regs require new boilers to fitted with a means to control the temperature. Boiler interlock.

After my isolator switch broke while it was on, I just left it as everything seemed fine, about 6months to a year latter, my shower started grumbling and then spiting out water every few hours and it seemed like it was on it way out, so I have now put a new switch in and make sure it get switched off.

The isolator is there to allow “isolation” of the the appliance should a fault develop.
    These are called, “safety features.”
Believe it or not, you put yourself and who ever else uses the shower at great risk by not replacing a faulty switch.
It’s more likely the shower failed due planned obsolescence rather than the switch fault. However, high powered electric appliances filled with water should be inspected regularly and if needed, serviced. Any fault should be rectified at the earliest opportunity. Not after it’s melted.
Note to self. Never buy anything off lightman.

gears_suck – at some point are you thinking of making a useful contribution to this thread? No?

I make my living by doing a professional and quality job. I’m not in the habit of disclosing my trade skills to a bunch of DIYers. It’s how I make my living. And fortunately, see evidence above, there are enough clowns out there making a mess of it that I stay busy correcting failed attempts to perform plumbing work.
Hats off to russ though. You can all go self employed now.

How weird, just sipping a post sealing beer. Stanley knife, wd40 to remove, clean and dry with hot air gun, then silicon rubber glove wiping off on kitchen towel to smooth.
this is getting more and more ridiculous.

Drac. Have another read of my post mate. If you pull back the action for any reason, the hammer will be cocked and ready to be released.
The problem is that when you put a weapon in the hand of an idiot. Even a highly trained idiot. Accidents can and probably will happen. Regarding most accidental shootings, it’s usually someone else who is hurt. This is because people become complacent and fail to remember a simple rule.
Never point a weapon at anyone you do not wish to shoot.
Even when unloading, servicing or otherwise one should be aware of the proximity of others at all times.

    gears_suck

He might not be sure, but I am.
To unload the weapon, you remove the magazine and pull back the action to eject the round from the chamber, this leaves the hammer in a cocked and ready to fire position. That is when pulling the trigger will release the hammer and hopefully, if you’ve removed all the bullets in the first part, not fire.
Some weapons have concealed hammers so you cannot release it slowly with a thumb. However, you’d still need to pull the trigger to release it in either scenario.

As said, it’s right about a mile in length. It’s short and mostly tight. You’ll get round in 2-3 mins and that’s it. It’s more like a long bmx track than an mtb trail and there are several poorly placed rocks which will severely hinder your progress if you get a corner wrong. Good to take the kids round a few times at a steady pace but you’ll be very unrewarded if you make a long drive up to the valley just for it.
