    20%

Is this just a number you picked out of your head with 12 being a 20% bigger number than 10 or is this actually right? I’m not convinced that the stiffness of a bikes rear end and the axle size have a linear relationship. 🙄

You will notice a big difference on the meta going from 10mm qr to 12 bolt-do it

There is also quite a difference going 10mm bolt-on from 10mm QR

I found the Meta quite flexy with the QR tbh
    Much more useful, cheers.

I’ll be sticking them on a rear Hope XC and a front Pro 2 with DT spokes. Already have the hubs and spokes so just replacing the rims (luckily the ERD of the crest is almost identical to the 317s so no new spokes needed).
Tyres wise I’ll be sticking a pair of Nobby Nics on and running them tubeless.
    Good times!

The long pins from the nano flats haven’t given me any problems as far as sole wear is concerned (only in the shin department) and in general the soles are ageing pretty well. I’ve washed and photographed my most worn sole to show how much wear it’s got from about 30 full-day rides – almost nothing. http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/917/imageja.jpg.

Stiffness, you’d be surprised at how stiff they actually are, I thought free running would require really flexy footwear but apparently I’m wrong. In any case, surely using flats sole stiffness isn’t a major issue due to using the centre of your foot as opposed the ball?

I’m bored by the way. 🙄

Yeah, I have them and they’re pretty immense.
    Use them with Nano’s too.

    You won’t regret buying them.

managed to bag a new G30 vented for £35, so spare cash for the clear… Where'd you manage to get that?

It's not on that lens comparison thing but I always find yellow lenses are great for low light conditions, I'm looking at getting myself one of these actually for my Radars. I use a yellow lens for low light skiing and it works a treat. (The Anon website has a similar lens comparison to the Oakley one but has a yellow on there.)

    I use Koolstop Salmon pads.
Not too pricey, have really good stopping power and lasting pretty well!

The sealant would need to interact between the rim and the tyre. This would require the tyre to sit against the rim after inflation in order for me to shake the sealant into the gaps. Unfortunately it doesn't, the tyre just comes away from the rim so the sealant would go everywhere! 🙂

You're gonna struggle to find one new.
Ultegra and 105 have been 10spd for a while now I think, maybe try classified forums?

Post a pic when you've done it. Tempted to do mine too, paint's getting a tad shoddy now.

    What bike?
The RST First Air get great reviews for the bikes they come with. Having said that, the alternatives at that price range are all Suntour!

Has anyone got one of the Kryptonite Evo Minis?
I'm toying with buying one but was wondering whether they fit round most landposts and standard bike stands (like these)?

You can get these for just shy of £30 on amazon or eBay. Cheapest I've found.

What really annoys me is that the maps I've bought in Anquet on my PC can't be transferred to my phone!
That and the app being £20 is a bit excessive! What do you get for the £20? Does the app come with map credit or is it literally just the app?
At the moment I'll be waiting for them to link the iPhone app with the PC version before I put my hand in my pocket!

Oh yes, there are PLENTY of bad bikes!

    For example

What makes these bad bikes? I'm looking into getting a 'cheap as chips' SS bike so want to know what to avoid!

The cheap crap ones, just want something cheap that I won't mind leaving locked up in town/at uni.

The other Vikings do look very nice mind!

Amazon don't have the SS unfortunately and can't find reviews anywhere!

EDIT: This one to be precise.

Great quality and both cheaper and lighter than Thompson when you consider the length.

Love them and haven't had any problems with stitching or whatever. Far better than cheap ones!

Cheers for all the help guys, really appreciate it.

From what you've all posted it seems I'll try a BMX freewheel but my best bet may be to buy a cheap rear SS wheel or one with a proper free hub if the BMX route doesn't work. Re-dishing the wheel shouldn't be a problem, I've recently built my first proper wheelset so have a little experience already.

I'll have a sit down and will go throught the 3 sites recommended above too.

@meehaja Cheers for the offer but that's about £120 more than I wanted to pay 😆

    @Hairychested That's definately cheating and I love a good project 😀

My glasses always tend to slide down my nose with the vibrations which is really annoying on long downhill sections! Sports sunglasses are great but I know Oakley don't make curved lenses for my prescription 'cos I'm apparently too blind.

    @philsimm
Great recommendation, I've just ordered a months supply from them. Hopefully I'll get on with them alright, £10 a month is ridiculously cheap. My optician charges £32 for a months supply which is outrageous.
    Thanks a lot.

borwens, its Birk Side on Helvellyn.he rode most of it.

Did that a few weeks back. Great fun but damn is it hard! Our guide booke had it described a "Rideable?"!
If it wasn't for some of those HUGE drainage channels it'd be a lot more managable.
Great ride, wish I'd had the camera out on the descents mind.

Here's a link to the photo album from our long weekend. There's no pics of any descents – no way was I slowing to take photos. There's also no photos of Garburn 'cos it lashed it down all that day!

I have 5-10 FreeRunners and they are the business. Super tacky version of the stealth sole and have a plastic midsole so shouldn't evaporate over time like the cardboard ones apparently do.
They look good too, not like something from a 'special' shop!

I definately agree about the larger platform for pedalling, tried MTB pedals on my roadie and they were awful imo.

Main reason I brought it up is I'm gonna be touring for a few weeks over summer and want a cleat that's gonna last all 3 weeks. With using them for touring I'll be having to walk in them a little I reckon, I'm taking flip flops so I can change between the 2 quickly but doubt I'll want to change every time I get off the bike. My shoes (Shimano RO86) will take MTB cleats too so these might be an option with some slightly bigger MTB pedals. I've got walking with the road cleats to a fine art now so that's not gonna be a problem, but that may be due to the rubber strips on the plastic cleats.

Cheers for the feedback, something to think about!

+1 for the HT Components from Ready to Ride Cycles.
Same as the nano-flats from Superstar but a fiver cheaper and they grippy as hell!
Love mine, you'll not belive the diference from V8s!
