I had a similar issue recently

The loss adjusters instructed Wheelies to value my bikes and then they would look at having Wheelies replace them.

As i ride for KTM, I informed the loss adjusters that I had to have KTM bikes and that Wheelies aren’t agents for KTM and therefore wouldn’t be able to obtain them.

They tried to say that they would provide bikes to the same spec but I refused, arguing that if I wanted a different brand, then I’d have bought a different brand.

Perhaps you could argue something similar? Find out what brands they supply as replacements and if they don’t supply exactly the same then surely they have to pay out the market value of the stolen item

Even if that is 3hrs of z2.

Im quite happy to do 2 or 3hrs of Z2 on the turbo but I find I struggle with comfort of the derrier after about 50mins.

I’ve been twice in the last 2 weeks and everything has been open from what I saw/remember.

Did Blade and Whites Level on Saturday gone and although they were incredibly wet with rivers running along the trails, they were perfectly ridable.

    Looking forward to riding Bordon…..

I understand the venue has changed again.

Now to be held at Hawley Lake

Surely people are going to start getting a little fed up of these last minute changes and cancellations???

One of my riding buddies and one of my team mates both tend to guff more than the average man

It hurts my eyes and makes me cry

I tend to find locking my knees out, putting a little more weight over the front, and pushing with a strong core helps.

I think I’m pretty good at predicting whether the bottom burp is going to be a little damp in consistency so don’t push too hard in those instances.

Sometimes I be a little daring and stay seated at the PPoE…it changes the tone and volume, sometimes pleasingly

The nationals will be based on last seasons overall standings first, then it will go on the current points tally and then a random allocation.

Obviously there will be people missing from the last seasons standing i.e. those that change category etc so for example, I finished in 40’s overall last season and then for the first race this season I gridded on the second row.

As said above, after that it goes on current series standings, then points overall, then a random allocation.

I think this is right anyway

Gaz – Anthem 29 LP shirt – we talked briefly after we both bailed at Ickworth. I’m not in your category so no need to be nervous until you turn 40 / enter Vets

Ah I remember…well, to fuel your target, I go into Vets as of the 1st January 😥

Guys – thanks so much for the advice and offers of help

I’m glad to say most of the situation has been resolved in our favour. They are honouring the bikes so thats good although they are only paying out the £1000 for the rest of the contents.

I’m going to take that on the chin though as I really don’t want to have months of arguing over it

    Thanks again

Thanks guys…some clarity needed I guess (it’s a pretty long winded situation so I’m trying to be brief)

    1) When I took out the policy, I itemised the bikes so that they were fully covered while away from home and made sure of this. The policy documents are ambiguous because they say the bikes are covered, however the other items are only covered for up £1000. I have researched the Ombudsman and they say that it’s the insurance companies responibility to ensure the document is clear to read and understand….it isn’t
2)One line on the insurance say ‘theft from an unattended vehicle’ then on another page it says ‘theft from an unattended vehicle UNLESS the contents were concealed and the vehicle locked’ – they were
    3) I was setting up the stand. My bikes were in the car because I was hoping to do some training during the week and then race on the Sunday without going home.
    4) The NEC exhibitors car park is a ‘secure’ carpark with CCTV, barriers, patrols and car park attendants. On top of this, the scrotes have been caught and have now been remanded into custody. The NEC have a policy that they won;t be held liable UNLESS the items were concealed from view and in a locked vehicle…as I say… they were. Surely this carrys some weight????

andylc – is that the rock garden that was part of the national XC race (the one with the small bit of Northshore at the top)?

If so, I think thats a great example personally….I saw some of the countrys best XC racers fail to ride that properly…the same XC racers that are quite happy to ride pretty much any feature on trail centres in the UK. I also saw people that struggle to ride small kickers that cleaned the rock garden every lap.

The difference is riding it at that pace and that level of fatigue makes it incredibly difficult.

Has had their XTR cassette successfully warrantied?

Mine has now become unbearable. I’ve tried everything…I’ve greased the freehub, greased the interface of the hub and cassette, put fibre grip on the carbon interfaces of the cassette and tightened it to the correct torque but it just seems to be getting worse.

Its on a 3 year warranty so it’s going back to Madison this week but I just wanted to check if anyone else has managed to get a replacement from them?

You could do much worse than to give Impsport a try. They will cater for full on race teams to clubs to individuals and all at very very reasonable prices and quick tun around times

jameso – I have to ride a certain make of bike. The bike as standard comes (came) with a 120mm headtube which made the front end pretty high. My legs are probably shorter than the average for my (lack of)height at 28inch inside leg.

This pretty much meant that the seatpost on a 17″ was pretty low in the frame and the only way to get the bars lower was to have the 40 degree negative stem.

I guess I’m only speculating that that was the problem as I’ve never had that issue since being on a 27.5 with a geometry that suits me much better

If you’re interested in something nice and light and pretty fast, I have a very limited edition carbon SMALL 29er KTM Myroon that has never even seen a bottom bracket that is surplus to requirements 😀

I’m 5’7″ (on a good day) and used to race a medium (17″) 29er. The thing I found was that to get the race position I wanted/needed, I had to run a massively negative (-40 degrees) stem. This meant that everytime I came to anything remotely pointing down, I’d end up OTB.

I ended up on a 27.5 and it suits my little legs much better.

That said, the team I ride for didn’t make a small frame 29er so I was a bit stuck. I do know of other guys around my height that are riding small frame 29ers and doing so pretty quickly.

    KTM Myroon?

I’ve just gone back to a double (38/28) set up on my 27.5 XC race bike.

I found that I was struggling to keep up with the 29ers on the flatter stuff when I ran a 32 or 34 single but a 36 or 38 was a bit too big to push up the climbs sometimes (ok when just riding but started to hurt when trying to go flat out and stay with a group).

I now find I can stay with (and sometimes pull away from) the 29ers with the 38 but I also have a bail out with the 28 should I need it.

I raced at the Southern XC yesterday where it was particularly flat and I did find myself almost topping out along the straights but didn’t need to use the granny.

I should point out that this is XTR 2×11….

Be wary of using too much WD40/GT85/Chain Lube though

I have numerous Selle Italia SLR XC saddles and they can become unbearably noisy. The creaking comes from where the rails join the saddle (front and back)

I used copious amounts of lube to solve it but forgot that lube doesn’t always stay in the place it’s applied. Later that day, during a race, my saddle fell off!!!!

It appears the lube ran onto the rails which then loosened throughout the race. Something quite surreal about braking heavily for a tight corner only to see your saddle pass you on the inside.

Anyway, I solved the noise by removing everything, cleaning it all up and refitting it.

What a fantastic event and an awesome atmosphere!

I was in the team of 10 with shortcut so it all felt a little relaxed and laid back for us. Almost like cheating. I have to echo shortcut though, Absolutely zero sleep even though we had about 6 hours off made me feel like death so I take my hat off to those who turned those pedals for 24 hours.

The friendly nature and inclusiveness of the whole event is what makes it. Long may it continue and grow even bigger than the sizeable event it already is. I was blown away by how polite everyone (and I mean everyone) was out on course. It was almost embarrasing knowing the only reason I was passing people on the climbs was because I was pretty fresh, yet they all still shouted encouragement.

It a shame British Cycling can’t look at these events and make Mountain Biking bigger and better (and more inclusive) in the UK. Perhaps someone should have a word with The Princess and get her to get involved 😆
