    Unpadded tights over shorts

this – i use 2 pairs of planet x unpadded tights over decent bib shorts, a fresh pair each day. warm and comfy on my commute/night rides. take both off at same time at work, can wear shorts only if i get off work early and its still sunny, and saves having 5 pairs of tights with pads as i ride in them everyday midweek

the planet x ones i have aren’t available now, but i’m keeping an eye out for a new pair when they come back in as had these a few years

check on the vw T4 forums/archives if there are mounting points for lap belts or 3 point seatbelts in the van. in our T25 which started life as a panel van they were shaped/part of the interior body panels so all we had to do was drill out the dimples in the middle and fix through with big **** off plates/nuts on the back for peace of mind

also i’d want to check that seat itself is crash tested/fitted properly. the last thing you want is the belts to hold and the seat itself to come off the floor in a serious crash :(

    from the telegraph article –

He was put on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely and banned from being near young girls without permission, according to reports.

that alone would be enough to put me off giving the paedophile a job

i found that my old dainese body jacket thing would move around after initial impact. great for first hit, but not for the subsequent 2nd, 3rd and 4th hits and gravel rash as i cart wheeled down a hill

i’d say make sure it’s nice and snug without feeling too restrictive (which could help cause a crash…)

OP – glad you and your family are safe and sounds like fortune was on your side (could have been a LOT worse)

flaming/exploding lipo’s is well known. i used to use one of these to charge lipos in for my RC cars when i was racing but luckily never had one blow. i’m thinking of getting one that’s a snug fit on my light battery and just leave it on all the time. in fact i might still have one in the box of doom i can just use to charge in

ebay link – but proper brands are available

i once saw a RC car burst into flames at about 70mph down a long straight when the lipo blew due to the discharge rate exceeding the design limit – proper fireball!

same as jumble sale except jumble sales round here are 50p to get in and you get a cup of tea

for £5 i’d want a pint and a pie with mushy peas on top whilst i trundle round looking at battered boxxers

    – sounds like a UKIP policy

seriously who gives a shit really, apart from the 0.1% of the population who use it for racing themselves on public roads/trails

picked up a 2nd hand satori post which is a gravity dropper-esque and about £90 on ebay new. seems well made and and not far off gravity dropper standard, however weighs a bit. also have a gravity dropper btw. not used much in anger yet but i’d be tempted to get another one for other bike…

a bit of constructive criticism whilst letting them know of anything they’re doing right at the same time (if anything) would be my approach – also could get you in the good books for extra discount/free upgrades

no point of trying to cut off business. unless its a gold mine location better a shit cafe than no cafe imo

craig runs uplifts on wednesdays if you fancy the DH side of things. check the descend hamsterley facebook page if so it has his number

agree with above best route is a mix of black, red and off piste. best to go with a local for the off piste stuff really. some bridleways go off up the moors if you want that sort of thing – a route is in the beyond hamsterley guide book which you could maybe find a gpx of online

The only two things you need to consider are:

    1. Can I afford it?

    2. Do I enjoy it?

If the answer to both is yes then there isn’t a problem at all.

    +1

remember you don’t necessarily need to have the latest/blingest/lightest/trediest/enduro specific kit to enjoy yourself

we used stuff from a local garden centre. when you put it down its worthwhile pegging the edges down with metal pins. stops the edges rolling up and looking scruffy. also make sure you have a good overlap

we used sheets of 3mm ply and secret nailed through the new floor and that to the wooden floor in our flat. feels solid. was using 18mm solid oak flooring though not engineered click together stuff

i’m going to 4 days next week, as my partner will be going back to work 3 days part time after maternity leave, albeit work will only let me have wednesday off which is a bit naff but cant begrudge them as they’ve been very supportive otherwise and are happy to review in a few months if i want to go back to 5

whilst my pay will drop, when considering tax/NI and child care costs its not a huge amount per week (i’m not a big earner or the bread winner by any means) and quality of life for me and my family/spending time together means much more than a bit of extra pocket money

    also i’ll get to spend 3 days a week with my daughter rather than 2 currently – a 50% increase! :D :D :D :D :D

long term we intend to both do 4 days if it works out

whilst i find them fun i’m not too bothered about groomed ‘flowy’ bmx-track style trails like at most trail centres. they tend to be so formulaic you can predict exactly whats coming up 3 or 4 corners ahead. sometimes when at glentress or hamsterley i have a little co-pilot in my head going ‘crest to right hand berm to piddly rock garden to easy table top to (insert another IMBA approved trail feature here) etc….’, and tbh when i was riding mainly at trail centres a few years ago i felt like i was stuck in a bit of a MTB Groundhog Day

give me off camber rooty rocky trails with steep switchbacks and with zero space for error/guaranteed death any day

rich – hope life with the little un settling down :) you’re welcome to join us on wednesday night rides from Ebchester, or sunday mornings we ride at chopwell & surrounds. nothing crazy speed or distance wise (20-30km or so ina couple of hours but some really good singletrack on our doorstep) and back at the Derwent Walk Inn for a couple of pints after too :D

as for better ways from edmundbuyers, maybe you could try SE along B6278 then left up towards Muggleswick theres some farm tracks over the moor to the waskerley way. you can ride up WW to just under bolts law or down to continue to rookhope/up the road to the track heading up to the top of bolts law. not explored the tracks myself but seen people on bikes on them/they’re on my STRAVA feed – i’ve just gone round on the road (it’s a tiny road with no traffic)

    cheers

This arrived yesterday. With whatever batteries I could find laying around it’s not as bright as a solar storm. Same amount of width though. Once my Torchy batteries arrive I’m hoping there won’t be much in it.
As a self contained easy on ,easy off it does it’s job.
Still plenty bright enough for commuting through the woods and unlit tracks. £23 off ebay, then you need to add batteries.

got a link? if it’s possible to fit a 18650 based battery pack inside it with a charge port mod to try to set fire to my house/workplace charge without taking the batteries out i’m interested
