do you not follow the audiophile and product specific, ie lp12, goups on facebook? hifi is live, loud and kicking.

i got back into it myself around 4 few years back, the first place i asked for advice was on here.

i like my vintage stuff personally, partly because i can afford kit that if new i couldn’t, partly because it can be fixed and modified and partly because i like the idea that i’m listening to records (i only do records and the majority from the 60s and 70s) on the kit it was mixed for.

so i’ve gone in the last 4 years when i asked about rega turntables from my modest student set up that had lived in various attics for 25 years to the latest pile of sweet sounding lovliness that is an early 80s linn lp12 with valhalla and a modified rega rb300 arm (the latter until i can afford an ittok arm), quad 66/606 and quad esl57 speakers.

yes dezB, thats the thing, just got to find the right size now.

sex bolts was the name used by powell peralta in the 80s for the fixings that came with rib, tail and nose bones. hence you search sex bolts and you get overpriced skate branded stuff. i need them for one of my screenprint squeegees, the old ones have rusted and i need to drill them out the handle so i can replace the squeegee bit. not that exciting i’m afraid, though i suppose the Ts i’m working on are pretty cool as i need a hard fresh edge to get the detail.

    thanks guys

ive tried the wiki names but as i say they are allen bolts.

the screwfix link is close, but recess heads are what i need.

its driving me crazy, i thought it was top hat bolts but thats no joy either.

i really dont get this whole ebike thing, if the engine was combustion they would be a moped and not allowed on footpaths trails etc so just because they are electric what is the difference?

i personally would not get out the way of one on a climb.

core strength all the way, very simple to sort.

ive suffered lower back all my life, ive had lock ups that have literally seen me crawl out the surf.

when i started running 5 or 6 years ago i started doing a weekly circuits session with my club and since then i’ve had no problems.

but to prove the point, the last 9 or 10 months ive really slacked off and my back has gradually started playing up more and more until before christmas it was really bad again. so all i did was make sure i did a bit of stretching, salutation to the sun, and daily before bed grab my iphone, hit the stopwatch, and do a 1m now up to 1m.30 plank, 15sec rest, 30 sec strong push ups. it sorted itself out very fast.

for immediate relief google it, there are some good stretch sequences for lower back pain that really do help. and also keep your back warm, use ralgex and the boots ibuprofen gel with menthol.

for what this comment is worth…

my father in law is a chimney sweep and as such i wouldn’t think about paying someone to do an installation on my house just do it myself and i have done many, however father in law does not have a hetas installation ticket so a few years ago when we needed a stove and flue installing in a rental house i had to hire a ‘reputable’ local company.

lets just say upon checking their work out i was on the phone to trading standards within an hour and the next call was to discuss legal action against the installers.

so basically your installers may we be all ticketed up and reptable but it still does not guarantee that they have not bodged and mucked up the job.

i would recomend you call HETAS in the morning to discuss.

forgetting the actual event aspect, its a really good way to get your fitness in training wise. i have done tris, i dont do tris, but i do train with all 3 if that makes sense.

in terms of doing one, assuming we are not talking full iron mas, its no big deal if you are reasonably prepared especially the shorter ones with pool swim not open water.

you would actually be quite surprised at some of the people who line up at the start, my club had a guy one year who did a full shower and wash routine after the swim and set off on his bike with a box of sandwiches strapped to his rear rack. i kid you not!

thanks, i did look for reviews, from what i read the duplicator was like an improved creality 10, but i didnt know to check on youtube so i’ll do that.

i could do with a printer 101 really, maybe that should be my starting point, so i have an idea of what features to look for and what makes one better than another.

from someone who surfs pretty much every day…

its not as easy as ‘buy a mini mal’, width, rocker, profile, volume etc etc etc all come into play and there is more awful crud out there than quality.

the bics, cortez et al are the halfords carrera and lidl specials. they are not surfboards just chunks of foam that look like surfboards.

beware surfshops, on the whole they will sell tea to china given half a chance and on a rainy day with no cash in the till a tourist with a credit card is a very easy target.

unless you are really tall and heavy and unflexible you do not need a 9fter, a wide floaty 8ft will do it all and is a lot easier to use. even a wide fat 7ft, depending on your size and fitness, is a mega easy thing to surf.

i really do believe that the best bang for buck for learning and casual fun is a genuine swell surfboard, used on ebay, especially collect up country, they often come up well under 100quid indeed ive never paid over 40 for one.

of all the foam boards swells are decent width and very good volume, they are a blast to surf. i love them.

I havnt Read all the replies so I may be repeating, but…

ive always had migraines, I can have them for days. In the last few years I’ve really looked to my diet and like you have cut out many things. Everyone is different so my triggers aren’t yours but I really do think diet is key and keep looking at it, certainly some of the things you say you eat I wouldn’t touch. It’s also not sugar, bread can also kick me off, but maybe it’s sugar in that, who knows.

the other thing that really helps me is regular excercise, running mainly. If I do nothing I get migraines.

its also worth looking at what painkillers you use. I’ve found anadin extra to be brilliant at the first sign of one. Also ice on the pain point in my head, that works well.

since I’ve been doing this the difference is night and day for me to the better, so keep plugging away and search for what works for you.

all i can say is that having skated since 1975 i scoffed at pennys when i saw them originally, my exact quote was ‘plastic completes were sh”t then and they are sh”t now’ so as you can imagine when my kid decided he wanted one i dragged him around every shop that sold repro boards (and we are talking some very nice sims  and g&s replicas ) trying to talk him out of it.

so he got his penny and was skating the local carpark one night, i was on my run around cruiser at the time (skatebuilt timewap, bennets and tunnel rocks), and i grabbed a go on the penny. a bit small yes, but the deck was solid, the trucks well made and turned beautifully but more than anything the penny wheels rolled nicer than my equivalent duro and way more expensive tunnels.

i have dozens of skates lying around, a lifetime of collecting, 70s fibreflex to carbon composite slalom boards and everything in between, but pennys i rate them.

guys, dont knock them, actual penny boards are excellent and really well made. and trust me i am a complete skateboard snob, if its not indys and an alva its not a skateboard in my opinion.

    from my direct experience…

pennys, as in the actual brand not the generic term, are excellent. i was very sceptical but my son insisted on one and when i had a go i was very impressed.

BUT… they are really small both legnth and width and i would not recommend one at all for an adult. there is a bigger version i think, 29″ maybe, but again i think you can do better.

you would be far better off getting a 66-40″ cruiser if by bark you mean a literal park, or if a skapepark then something 30-36″ and a min of 9″ wide. ideally get softer (90a or so for park, 78a for road) 60mm wheels. avoid modern street popsicles.

that said, if its just cruising on the flat penny make a really nice pintail cruiser thats a bit longer and wider.

at the end of the day all hugely depends on your budget and what you want it for.

i live the other side of the peninsula from st ives, i can add some comments.

i hadnt seen the info that princejohn posted and i have no idea if its true or no, but that aside it makes a lot of sense. as soon as the tourists descend the roads get insane down here, its like many people literally forget that Cornwall shares the same road rules as the rest of the uk. it is not unusual for cars to stop on roundabouts and across junctions to check their satnav or map, and any road that passes a view guaranteed someone will slow or stop to put their phone out the window and take a pic. i am not kidding it happens a lot. indeed this last weekend a freind was posting on facebook about a woman who had gone loopy cutting infront of cars to beat the carwash que at the supermarket.

cornwall live and the weekly rags the group publish are the most trashy piles of cheap tabloid sh”t you can imagine. they are not journalists just cut and paste merchants. the editors (sic) totally ignore fact just to create a headline, recently they ran a story about ‘slave workers’ that ignored a very simple fact that all the alleged slaves went to the police to demand their boss was released and as they were not slaves but happily employed workers with great facilities and regular fairly paid work.

finally st ives, what a foul place. its as bad as newquay but just has more cash.

</span> the best surf is generally when the wind is offshore and I don’t know about anyone else but in my take on ocean safety standing on an oversized airbag using your body as a sail with the wind blowing out to see is not the very best idea.

I second what others have said, mid size wide template surfboards are super easy to surf. get a quad egg and never look back.

my house in sennen, http://www.littlebeachhouse.co.uk as its the ideal spot for an adventure holiday. sennen has two excellent surf schools in the cove – smart surf school and sennen surfing centre – plus they also offer paddleboarding and coasteering. theres powerboat rides out of sennen to the lighthouse, amazing cliff walks, mountainbiking, road cycling, more surfing via the surf hire place and the beach itself which is stunning.

shameless plug I know, but for an adventure holiday it ticks the boxes.

when my lad was smaller he started racing bmx so in typical dad fashion I went out and bought a very nicely specced yeti dj. bearing in mind my idea of a huge jump is a crack of light under my tyres I enjoyed it very much, to the extent that I really should sell the frame but even now, ive not used it for at least 5 years, i’m reluctant to.

I wondered the same myself a year or so ago, spent way to long looking on google (may well have started a thread on here too).

after much pontificating I gave up trying to spend heaps of cash and bought an antex xs25 which I think cost me 25quid at the most. I then bought a few different sized tips and a better stand (with a wire wool cleaning pad). maybe 35quid all up inc the iron itself.

its definitely one of the most useful things I’ve bought and I quite enjoy playing with it. if you want to do components on a board I recommend buying some kits from china off ebay, 99p easily buys something with enough fiddly bits to get some decent practice in with.

if I had to do it again I would spend the extra for the version of the xs25 with a silicon lead.

migraines come in many forms, ive suffered with them all my life. at the least just an overwhelming tiredness or thick head that just will not clear (couple of times a week), at the worst 3 or 4 days in bed with headaches so bad I could cry and throwing up every hour.

the only thing with a migraine is to get into a darkened room as soon as you start to feel one coming on, and sometimes applying an icecube to where the pain is can help.

BUT… over the last year or so I hardly have had a headache and no migraines at all, even during a period of intense stress in December that absolutely guaranteed would have brought on a multi day one previously. I simply gave up coffee and foods (biscuits and sweets mainly) that contain rubbish sugar, even I am amazed at the difference it has made.

    a story that might help…

a few years back to help out with a local surf club my kid was in I volunteered to do a rlss beach lifeguard course, the first part of the final test being 400m in under 8 mins (7m30 for an RNLI beach lifeguard). I’ve surfed and mucked about swimming all my life so I thought no prob.

first up I got my wife’s godfather to watch me in the pool, he is a retired swim coach, I thought I could swim, he flatly told me I couldn’t swim.

next I times myself over 400. I cant remember my exact time but when I looked at the local swim club times in reception I found that I wouldn’t even have qualified for the 12 year old girls division.

I asked questions on here, I read books (swim smooth and total immersion), I learnt about technique, and I swam a lot. at my test I did 400 in 6m52s.

swimming is all technique. if you enjoy that you will enjoy swimming but no matter how much time you get on many days the water just feels like treacle.

also look into sea swimming, it is a lot more fun that pool swimming and a lot more to look at as you swim along.

basically though its reach, catch and pull. legs together, keep your body flat and your bum up (push down on your chest). think of a making a small hole and pulling yourself through that.

swim with a plan and stick to it. in the pool I do 400s and variations of that (this week I did 1 x 400/1 x 800/ 8 x 50/ 1x 400), generally 2000m all up in a sesh as that’s what I tend to do in the sea come summer.

    this clip really helped me…

I did dry dry January once, just for the month, but kept going and now in my 4th year. I was a daily drinker too.

If anyone wants to continue two things worked for me, firstly when you get to 31 days it’s only another 19 to make 50 so why not continue, then at 50 if you want to go on it’s only another 50 to 100 etc.

Secondly work out what you have saved. Even a modest alcohol spend soon really mounts up. So really roughly for me at a fiver (bottle of wine) a day it’s £5500.

I do miss booze still, but I realise I’m a stress/comfort drinker, I definitely do not miss hang overs and most of all I like being liberated from it.
