i tried a sram 10 speed link on my xx1 chain and there was quite a bit of side to side play in it.. the 11 speed chain is a bit thinner

i saw a post the other day that someone was making a 16 tooth ring.. The theory is that you remove the 15 and 17 and fit a 16 along with a 42..

This smooths out the steps slightly and gives you the dinner place granny :-)

Kirroughtree is brilliant… if you are thinking about doing it.. let me know.. i can send you links to a couple of options for accommodation

I wouldn’t bother with glentrool… Dalbeattie would be a better option.. or possibly even Drumlanrig

I bought a T5 2.5 130 LWB Minibus to use as a bike bus and weekend cruiser… It’s currently sitting on 303000 miles and runs like a dream.. Ive removed the last row of seats and the single from the second row. Ive built a rack(from ikea !! ) that takes 5 bikes fully built. So thats 5 bikes, 5 people and enough space for stuff for a weekend..

    not a bad purchase for £5000 :-)

dont use lube/fairy liquid to begin with.. you need the rim dry to create friction..

fit the tyre to the rim and inflate as normal with a tube… put the pressure up to about 60psi and make sure the tyre is seated properly on both sides..

deflate the tube and CAREFULLY remove one side of the tyre only.. (this is why you need a dry rim. The added friction will help keep the other side of the bead in place) Remove the tube and fit the tubeless valve (no sealant at this point)

Now you can lube the second bead with a little fairy liquid. Dont go mad with it though as it stops the sealant from helping to seal any leaks in the bead..

Attach a track pump and pump away. It should seat pretty easily but if it doesnt… get someone else to man the pump while you put a little pressure on the tyre at the point it is not seating properly.. Sometimes you might need to use a garage compressor to get the bead on… some tyres just refuse to play the game..

Once you have it seated properly.. deflate the tyre, remove the valve core and put in your chosen sealant..

Reinflate and do the shake-rotate-shake-rotate dance to make sure the sealant is getting into the areas where air is leaking around the bead..

** shake and rotate dance….. hold the tyre in front of you at 3 and 9 oclock positions and shake the tyre back and forth.. rotate slightly and repeat.. keep doing it until the leaks have stopped..

throw the rim strip away and buy proper tubeless valves… then use the tube to seat the tyre ..

Ive got a T5 LWB which was a 9 seater but is now a 6 seater.. not that you can tell because the windows have been blacked out….

I have a 2006 T5 LWB.. was a 9 seater.. now a 6 seater with enough space for 5 fully built bikes and enough gear for a days riding.. Recently did a weekender with 4 people and 4 bikes with enough gear to last about a month… So good having lots of space…

I believe that pre march 2006 t5’s have a lower tax rate than post march vans.. might be worth checking out.. Fuel economy on the 2.5’s isnt too bad.. a full tank at £90 will do 520 miles

I think im leaning towards the Lake 303’s.. they seem to be more waterproof than most

I fully realise that nothing is every going to be 100% perfect but anything has to be better than what i am using at the moment :-)

    kirroughtree black
    glentress black
innerleithen red xc + dh if you have the time and energy

dalbeattie is ok but has a fair chunk of fire road
mabie is ok but its more like a blue route

havent done glentrool, newcastleton or ae but from what ive heard they arent up to much anyway..

I’d definitely plan for the first 3 even though there is a bit of a drive between kirroughtree and peebles

Confused by the news report that no UK government will ‘allow’ Scotland to use the pound..? Okay – imagine the UK is the husband, and Scotland is the wife. She tells him it’s been good but…she’s no longer happy and she’s thinking about leaving the marriage. He’s not happy. He tells her she’ll miss the joint incomes (the Barnet fomula) along with that new security fence they just built around their house (Trident)…the one she put alot of her savings into. And she’ll be poor – she’ll be lucky to be shopping in Premark if she tries to go it alone. She tells him she’s still thinkin about leaving.

He’s not happy. He appeals to their friends (other countries) to warn her how bad things will be if she leaves him. He gets his pals who run the local pub (other members of the EU) to tell her that she won’t be allowed in if she’s a single girl… He asks her family and friends from all over the country to phone her and tell her that he loves her…that he doesn’t want her to go. She’s still serious about this. It’s okay though, she explains, she’s got a job (assets) she’ll pay for half the mortgage (the national debt) if she can still use the joint bank account (the pound). UK lashes out – all these threats and she still thinks she can go it alone..! “No way!” he says. He tells her to get her own account (currency).

She points out that if they both use the same bank account they can pay off the mortgage together with as little hassle as possible. She reminds him the account (the pound) is a joint one – meaning it’s her account too. He throws this in her face. Tells her that no matter how much debt she pays, she’s still not getting to use the joint bank account. And so it goes. Later in the year, the UK will threaten to keep the bairns if she leaves him. Alas no divorce is without stress and strife. Scotland, like every other wife that’s decided to go it alone…will probably struggle to begin with…but will eventually succeed on her own merits and not have to blame the total fud she married in the first place.

    But you can’t afford independence

We can’t afford to not be independent…

There will be costs.. everyone is aware of that but it’s not like Scotland has just turned up, pitched a tent and decided to form a new country from scratch..

Scotland will have a bigger national budget than it currently has.. That’s where the money is going to come from.

Christ on a bike! This just demonstrates that a lot of the Yes thing is the heart ruling the head. All emotional.

Why would the UK be upset if iScotland joined the EU?

What is more important to Spain? Pissing the UK off or keeping Catalunya?

Pissing off the UK is quite high on their list of priorities these days..

OK, so humour me please. Explain how this parity is fixed and remains fixed between two economies moving relative to each other.

It’s called Pegging.. happens all the time.. See this link for brief details..

    So not free then?

lol.. really… is that the best you can come up with?

Excpet that Spain will veto you due to the Catalunya question.

Doubt it… They are making noises but thats just to keep face.. When it comes to D-Day.. I would put money on them ok’ing it… Even if it was to just stick the fingers up to the UK because of Gibraltar

Zero rates – where does the LA get it’s funding?

Prescriptions – Tooth fairy provide them then? Or does the drugs company donate them to Scotland?

LA gets its funding from the Scottish Parliament which gets its pocket money from the UK government which gets paid by the people of Scotland..

Same goes for prescriptions and university places…

Oh… we also just scrapped the bedroom tax.. :-)

    you know what..

living in Scotland is pretty good.. Especially for mountain bikers with our land access laws..

Business wise it’s pretty good as well.. Reduced or zero business rates for SME.. Thats not a bad deal..

Health wise, we don’t pay for prescriptions and Education wise.. our kids don’t have to pay to get into a university..

Our way of thinking is pretty good I’d say… But it could be so much better.. Independence is the only way that it can get better though..

EU in 18 months after a yes vote? No problem.
The Pound ? either have a currency union with the UK pound or have our own Scottish pound which is tied at a 1-1 exchange rate with the UK pound.. Scottish businesses can take either currency and then bank it.. Foreign UK businesses can pay in UK pounds and this can be converted at the the bank.. It’s really not rocket science
Border controls.. won’t need them as we will be in the EU
Passports. I’m quite happy to have a Scottish one

The best thing about independence is getting rid of the Westminster boys club.. It’s a decrepit, failing system that needs to be overhauled… House of lords should be converted to an old folks home..

DSR rules don’t apply in this case. If the bike is a stock item, they may be willing to do a deal with you on another bike. If it is something that they had to order in specifically for you.. They are less likely to offer anything decent..

At the end of the day.. you chose the bike and you chose the wrong bike. There is nothing the shop could do about that and nothing they need to do about it in law either
