    It's a sign of age.

I generally trim any obviously over long eyebrows myself but last haircut I got asked if I'd like them done. Thought 'why not' but regretted it immediately. Cut them far too short for my liking and have been waiting for them to recover ever since.

Easily, I’m much fitter now than I was at 21.

Normally the plates have two sets of holes so even if you shag the threads you can take them out and rotate them.

In fact by normally I mean always. I’ve never seen one that doesn’t.

When’s it meant to start? I’m 41 soon. Fitter than I’ve ever been. Bit of grey – women seem to like that. Did the sports car thing in my 20s. Never owned a motor bike and never will. Far more confident and succesfull with the opposite sex than I ever was in my ‘Youth’ too.

I’ve either never had one or it’s just been one continuous crisis since I was about 18.

You can buy very high quality CRTs off Ebay for peanuts these days.

Care to point me in the direction?

    you know – Ebay?

Just put a search in for TVs within however many miles of your postcode that you’re prepared to drive. There’s usually plenty going.

Personally I HATED the anatomic bend in the bell laps. I quite like Midges but feel the drops are a little short – like your hands might slip off the end. Not that this has ever happpened but it’s unnerving. Have you tried shallow drops like the FSA wing pros? My current favourite.

Always got plenty of wear out of Avid sintered pads and I’ve never done any sort of bedding in.

    This is all very entertaining.

FWIW I thought it was an excellent film. Not perfect by any means but what do you expect, it’s meant to be entertainment and in that sense it was a total success.

    LOL.

Have any of you seen the film – In the riot the rioters shout something like ‘Get them, they’re muslims’

Or does this help you – from wikipedia:

Dev Patel as Jamal Malik, the protagonist, a Muslim boy born and raised in the poverty of Mumbai

Tsk – To clarify – The boy in it IS a muslim.

Isn’t it rioting muslims that cause the brothers to be orphaned ?

    Other way round actually.

an offset of 2.5mm is going to make a tiny difference to the spoke lengths; we’re talking something like .3mm here so you shouldn’t have any problems. Just need to dish it properly.

I recently rebuild my old ’92 Eldridge Grade in as close to its original spec as I could manage. My only real concession was to fit SPDs – There’s no way I’m going to go back to toe straps and I hate flats. (Yes, I know it’s got flats in the picture). I still found it lots of fun to ride – Narrow bar felt a bit odd but wasn’t a problem.

Just been sorting this out on my setup – Virgin cable set top box.

Had all sorts of trouble until told to clone my PCs MAC code onto the router. Then all was fine.

Oh, ‘ridged’ forks. That really irritates me.

the use of ‘an’ in front of the words historic, hotel, MTB.

I’ll give you the first two but ‘an MTB’ is definitely correct. Just say it out loud if you are unsure.

Thing is the quick release should squish it all together anyway.

Check the OLN of the hub. Or try another wheel in there?

Or is the QR a bit rubbish?

    GavinT

The OLN – Over lock nut width will be 135, same as on all normal, modern mountain bikes. The axle should be about 11mm longer than thatm so 146mm.

Has the hub been serviced at all? Might not have been put back together properly. Or the frame is bent.

Outwith? Had to google that to see what it meant. Appears to be the same as olde-worlde ‘without’ – as in ‘who is without’? So, same as outside really. Tip – just say outside, then you’ll be understood.

Which is the Vonnegut book with the artist doing a massive mural in it, is that Slaughterhouse 5? Got that here, guess I could re-read it and find out

    That’s Bluebeard that is.

    All Vonnegut is ace.
Recently have enjoyed Haruki Murakami. Any of them are good, but Norwegian Wood is probably the most accessible.

A couple of cars crashed on the Bostal Road in Steyning on Monday. Staggeringly stupid – it’s one of the steepest roads in Sussex at 17%. Why anyone would even considering driving on it is beyond me.*

    *I thought as I pedalled past. ;o)

Marmite + PB + Jam is also good

Generally I reckon any combination of the above (and cheese spread too) is a pretty safe bet.

    Try marmite and jam.

    No, really – it’s a taste sensation!

Yeah, but were you replacing the hub or the rim. I wouldn’t think twice about reusing the spokes if in good condition with a new rim. But swapping the hub? I’d probably just go for new ones while I was at it.

That said…yeah probably fine, if the lengths work out ok. If you do it then Julian’s advice sounds good.

    It’s all on here:

    http://www.dtswiss.ch/SpokesCalc/Calculator.aspx

But short answer – different. To be honest you should be using new spokes anyway.

Yeah , 5′ 10″ is pushing it a bit for a 16″ inbred. Probably fine if it’s a playing around on bike but not going to be ideal for longer efforts.

Easiest thing is to use a block of wood and a hammer to set it flush with the top of the tube. THEN thread in a bolt and use that to tap it down the last few mm.

    GavinT

5’8″ and ride a 16″. I’ve also had an 18″ in the past which was fine too but I prefer the slightly more chuckable smaller frame. As they are quite long in the top tube you can get away with a relatively small frame.
