    It’s all in here.

If you have 6 speeds it won’t be a cassette. it’ll be a screw on freewheel. Just get another off these off ebay, they’re common enough.

This one’s ok as long as you don’t stop to look at the view and touch the brakes. /schoolboy error

No ice down here but that didn’t stop me from falling off this morning!

Wet wooden bridge – very slippy…

Best give the rim tape a good checking over while you’re at it. That sounds a bit suspect!

Yep, that’s well worn. Very common to wear out middle ring while the others are fine. Depends a bit on your riding style of course but I don’t think I’ve ever needed to replace the granny.

I would have thought that was stretching it! 😉 Not my call though…

I’m just going to put in rides two and from work. I’m currently wondering whether using the bike for shopping should count as well? Probably – not that these amount to a lot of miles.

Is Will deliberately staying just one mile ahead of me to taunt me?

Utterly pissed on this morning yes. Got lycra draped over every available radiator trying to get it dry in time for ride home!

Have you contacted Exposure to see what they would charge to replace the battery?

I just put mine in the street and local kids took ’em.

    Great idea, I’m in!

Is ‘taking the long way home’ acceptable? The vast majority of my mileage is transport but I don’t necessarily take the most direct route! 😉

Oh yeah James Hill is ace! I was lucky enough to meet him in Brighton a while back when he was over promoting ‘The Mighty Uke’. Really nice guy and an amazing player.

You should also check out Jake Shimabukuro for awesome skills.

    Cool, thanks for subscribing! 🙂
Yeah, that’s quite a pricey Uke. I got a good deal on mine as a used one but really it’s not necessary to spend that much to get a decent instrument. £50 to £100 is probably the sweet spot. But, as with bikes if you get into it the sky’s the limit. Some folk pay £1000’s for custom ukes or vintage ukes!

Here’s a couple of more reasonable suggestions:
    £30 http://www.southernukulelestore.co.uk/Product/321/Makala-MK-SN-Soprano-Ukulele-Good-Quality-NEW!

    £60 http://www.southernukulelestore.co.uk/Product/144/Kala-KA-SEM-Exotic-Mahogany-Soprano-Ukulele-NEW!!

I hope you get into it. Look for a local club as a good way to get up to speed quickly. I play with a crowd that meets up once a month in our local. It’s just old pop songs and stuff but it’s a great way to get over performance anxiety!

Hey Sam, I just realised that you meant ‘what Uke am I playing?’

That’s my Kala solid Acacia wood Tenor. Same as this one:

I love that one – played (well mimed really) by Steve Martin in The Jerk
    – the uke is really played by Lyle Ritz

Thanks very much! Couple of years on Ukes I guess but 25+ years mucking about with guitars before that!

Best for a new guy? Depends on budget but you can’t go far wrong with a Makala. I started with a Makala MK-C (That’s a concert size) they’re about £40 – £50 and are extremely good for the money. Even better once you replace the strings. They do the smaller sopranos and larger tenors in the same range (MK-C/MK-T). Some Mahalos are good and I demo one of their Telecaster shaped ones on my youtube channel somewhere. That’s a cheap uke too but surprisingly decent (if a bit quiet, although that’s not always a bad thing). Some Mahalos I’ve picked up have been horrible though. Try before you buy!

For a bit more cash I like like Kala ukes, I have a Soprano and a Tenor and they’re both lovely things.

Ukulele you say? Yes, I’ve been known to have a strum! :o)

Currently playing around with a few tunes, Crazy G, Devil and the deep blue sea, ’til there was you, lots of Formby and Cliff Edwards.

Careful, there addictive little buggers, worse than bikes in some ways because they don’t take up too much space. I’m up to 10!

One of the main reasons I stick with SRAM rather than Shimano chains is that you CAN reuse the same pins. I have had trouble with the crosstep chains though. I wouldn’t use one again.

Well, the app is more for actually logging. But yeah, if you’re using your Garmin (as I am too) you don’t really need it. Handy backup though if you forget your GPS or forget to charge it.

Hi Jamie, you can’t do a lot from the app, you need to go to Endomondo.com on a browser. You should be able to do that from your phone ok though.

Cheers Will! If there’s too much off road into the MTB it will go.

    🙂

    What about cyclocross bikes?

I reckon if the ride has a good proportion of road and a bit of easy off road then it’s cycle sport. But if it’s the sort of ride you’d more usually use a mountain bike for then it’s mountain biking. Sound about right?

Just thinking ahead as I sometime commute by cross bike so I can enjoy the odd cheeky diversion along the way but it’s road biking really.

A respectable 5th for me in January (road). Had a slow start so quite pleased to winch myself up to there.

Right February – bring it! :o)

    The neeps are swede.

Nothing unhealthy about a bit of Haggis. I’m also on a get fit january but don’t see anything wrong with a wee portion of offal and veg. Kept off the whisky mind…

I built one up for a friend who uses it on his 'pimped' (cof) Raliegh 20.
He seems happy with it and has even raced it in time trials.

It's all a bit suprising this – I remember buying a 9 speed chain from CRC that WAS a bit short. It stated that on the listing and I bought it because I was fitting it to a trials bike so it was fine.

Pointless arguing about whether the tape is 'faulty' or not. It's only of use to people who don't want to tape all their bar. fixie riders possibly. So it's of some use but needs to state clearly on the listing that it's a bit short and may not fit standard bars. Mark seems to be under the impression that you just need a bit more tape – does he not realise it needs to be a continuous piece?

All my experience with CRC have been great so far but not not impressed reading this.
