Couple of my friends built some and rode them.

We laughed at them a lot but they did seem to work well.

Love those Alite and Helinox ones… Vango good range. Actually for watching cricket a rigid chair eddiebaby would suit the occasion! Thanks for the replies some ordering to do.

I have a pair of Flow on the basis that at 15st plus riding kit I would be close or above the max weight limit of 108kgs I think on the others.

All a bit of hard work if you ask me. I prefer: “two poached eggs on toast and a double espresso please”.

I have a camber with a praxis conversion to fit the shimano 11 speed 1x. Absolutely no creaking. Done by the LBS.

Agree completely. I have a dog and always bag up and take home. Discarded bags drive me mad as does dog poo left by the side and on the local sports pitches. It would be much better to flick it into a hedge rather leave it in a plastic bag.

Maybe should have made him ride down his boobytrapped trail to see for himself what the outcome of his actions would be?

Went to feed the hamster this morning and found he’d done a bunk… Youngest hadn’t put the door down properly when feeding him. Poor lad a bit disconsolate. Spent most of the morning looking for it, nothing so far but if he’s around he’s probably asleep.

I had a 2010 Legacy estate from new for two years. Did 70k miles and nothing went wrong with it. Absolutely brilliant car and the only thing I thought a negative was the ride which was a bit firm. I used to be able to just manage 600 miles on a tank of diesel.

It depends on what the wording says on the certificate. Some just cover conformity with building regs. Some have a lot of caveats for good reasons actually. If anything goes wrong you or your insurance company would have to take legal action. You should at least check what levels of indemnity the architect is insured for under that certificate.

How about a course? Navigation or bike skills or a specific wilderness first aid course?

Removing the wood burner you say? You’ll have to leave STW.

Helped put a friends up last summer. Very smug feeling when it was up sweat free in about 10 minutes. Lovely! A vango I think. Huge tent too. If I was in the market for a family tent would defiantly get air one.

An orange 5 and a mkII Marin rift zone frames plus a Kona Explosif 853 that is used for turbo duties and still has the original bottom bracket (they don’t make em like that anymore). The Marin’s head angle looks like you need to phone the samaritians before riding it. What were we thinking of?!

It’s a huge percentage difference. Given that they all have to buy the same materials savings would appear to be on on labour, overheads and profit. That much difference would concern me that a) they haven’t allowed enough time to build it (labour cost lower) b) they have missed something or c) they really need the work and have put in a very silly/competitive price. In any of the above, if there is the slightest problem they will be struggling and it will be a complete pain and or they will go out of business which really will be a pain. That the others were all similar would normally tell me that is the real price. If you go for them do not agree to pay a deposit. Make absolutely sure you do not pay them for more than they have done. As others have said ask for a couple of their recent jobs to go and see. Has your architect heard of them?

I would get a local structural engineer to come over and give you a report. I wouldn’t have thought it would be too much in the way of a fee for that sort of report and would give you pace of mind rather than worrying about it. They may install crack monitors to see if its active of not. You should check the details of your house insurance too, as you mention, just to check if there is a procedure for notification.

My 10 yr old is way faster running and different league skiing – not yet faster on the bike but thats only due to time available to him for riding as he’s too busy doing other sports. Will take him to Swinley over the summer hols so he can destroy me on the bike too…

Agree with vinnyeh above re costs. m2 cost would not include external works either. Depends where you are though obviously. I would always say use a good Architect (I would say that!). Tell them what you want, how you want to use your house, your budget and timescales. Give them some images of the sort of thing you like (in keeping/modern etc). Get a couple of Architects to give you fee proposals and base your decision on this and how you feel about them. Costs include the build, VAT, contingency, statutory fees, professional fees including Architect and structural engineer – it adds up.

Architect – work for myself. Love the time I get to spend with my boys – I miss the life of an office but decisions I make are mine and that means a lot. Certainly not earning much but quality of life good.

I remember watching a round of the RAC at Sutton Park – 20,000 plus spectators. The time span from seeing them come round the corner to the car passing didn’t seem possible. The Audi’s seemed fast until the Peugeots came through. Felt like we could touch the cars as they went past. Such an experience.

I had that – went to bike shop for a bike fitting. They moved things a small amount – seat height, cleat position etc and knee pain stopped. It was a new bike bought from the shop and they did it for free. I’ve never had a problem before that bike and had no issues since. To be fair it was a road bike and I think the continuous repetitive nature added stress where mountain biking doesn’t (mainly due to the standing around chatting nature of it!).

Elderly neighbours who have lived in the area all their lives would be the best source. You can get historical OS maps that show quite well the development of an area. A local museum might be a good place and you could try contacting the Parish Council.
    EDIT – as above !!

I have an exposure one – not sure what it’s called but it plugs into the port on a exposure front light and attaches to the seat post via cable. Very bright and reliable. I think too bright but angle of seat post points it down and washes the road with red light. I just checked their website and looks like not made anymore so that’s not much use ! Unless you get a 2nd hand one I guess.

Sounds like a bodge! Tiles on screed on insulation would be normal or timber flooring on metal trays holding the pipes between joists on insulation obv. If the underfloor comes direct from the boiler it’s likely too hot unless there is a blending valve somewhere. Any gaps like you describe will reduce effectiveness of the heating. Depending on the floor construction can you not remove the boards and use a proprioroty screed (Isocrete maybe) as it’s thin – in it’s place and tile on that?

Must just be me but I think it’s crap. Cars always come off furthest away. I think the controllers are way to sensitive. I need a massive straight to get some serious speed but nowhere near full power. Maybe my ‘driving’ is like my biking abilities…..
